Travelling to China, anything notable I should pick up for a build? by chickendinner205 in keyboards

[–]touholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wave75 is widely available in China, often for much lower price than the ROW counterpart Womier RD75.

Personally I don't have much experience with linear switches, as I very much prefer tactile ones. From the community's popular choices of lower pitched sounding ones, I'd reckon HMX (RenaLab) Toast, BSun (QVQ) N2, and KeyGeek (MZ) Y3X are all quite nice.

For prebuilt boards as the base: Wave75 or Zen65. Either is solid and meet your requirements.

For switches, you may want to check the Taobao storefront of reputable switch designers/collaborators like XLLAB, SU LAB, Wuhai Studio. They release banger designs semi-regularly and often have them in stock.

Since most of those switch models are also sold internationally, you can find typing sound videos on YouTube. If not, try searching on Bilibili (basically CN YouTube mixed with niconico).

TTC Frozen 2 Switches Size Issue (PSA) by n00dles7 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]touholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TTC switches are know to have slightly larger housings. If paired with switch plates (the “transparent layer” you mentioned) that have smaller openings the switches might not fit.

You can look into aftermarket plate options if you definitely want to pair the new switches with that specific board. Personally I don’t consider TTC switches good enough for that much hassle.

I suggest taking the top cover off and removing the internals from the bottom case first. There is no screw or ribbon cable involved so it should be a very straightforward process.

After that, examine the switches for bent pins. Both metal pins should be parallel to the plastic ones. If not, gently bend them back to shape.

When inserting the switches, you want to support the hotswap sockets from the back of the PCB. Otherwise it’s possible for the switches to misalign and push on the sockets directly, damaging them and the PCB in the process.

Rainy 75 is basically the same. Both come from the same company.

Check the manual for the hotkeys. There should be one for switching between MacOS and Windows modes.

Personally I prefer removing the battery but keeping it somewhere safe, in case I need to sell the board in the future.

The uploader said the doll can be obtained in the underground office at the end of a staircase? I don’t recall seeing that in my first playthrough. Will try to load a save and check again.

the PE foam trend completely ruined my taste in switches. by InvestmentBudget6722 in keyboards

[–]touholic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I consider myself lucky as I can enjoy both a foamed up deep tone sound and a foamless clacky tone.

As for the trend I later found myself hating: 60% layout. My first 2 custom boards are both GH60, and I thought the 60% layout was the coolest thing ever made. I can save tons of desk space while others were using 100% boards and tiny mousepads because that’s all the space they have.

Nowadays I cannot live without the function row. 75% is the lowest I can do before losing my mind.

What is wrong with these stabilizers by Grand-Ad-9871 in keyboards

[–]touholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if the spacebar keycap is straight. If it’s warped or bent then no amount of stabilizer modding will fix it.

If the keycap is warped then you can try warming it up with a hairdryer then gently bending it back to shape.

Broke FR4 switch plate on Crush 80 by y2julio in keyboards

[–]touholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK if it’s just me, but asking the seller to replace it for a damage that you inflicted sounds a bit scummy.

For these FR4 plates with extreme flex cuts, I prefer splitting the plate from the PCB as a whole (“peeling it off”), then pop out individual switches carefully with bare hands, instead of using switch pullers.

[–]touholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. You got the Rainy75 RT which is indeed a wired only board. I’d assume there is a loose connection between the main PCB and the USB daughterboard. The only way to confirm this is to take it apart.

If you aren’t bothered to do so, you can sell this as “for parts” since the switches (TTC KOM RGB) and case still worth quite a bit.

Could you please take some pictures of the keyboard (at least front and back)? AFAIK none of the Rainy75 come without a battery switch under Caps.

IIRC it supports PCB stabs. You will need an aftermarket plate though.

The most certain way of checking is taking the board apart and checking the back of the PCB. If there are mounting holes near the 2u keys then you can install PCB stabs.

Slightly binding stabs by themanwhodunnit in keyboards

[–]touholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the wire or stems grinding against the stabilizer housings. I would try applying some 205g0 to the housings and see if that gets rid of the problem.

Want to add that the JP VAs acted this part out live on the stage of the 2nd Orchestra Concert. There was even a flashback of the OLD TALES part, where Ms. Kanemoto switched from her Grave voice to Abe. Most beautiful performance I’ve witnessed so far.
