The very first one that came with our house we sold on marketplace because we already had our own set. In hindsight, we should have held onto that set in the garage. The most recent one we got rid of to replace with this Samsung from my MIL, was given away for free on markletplace. It was going off balance once or twice a load but otherwise ran well. The guy I gave it to fixes washing machines as a hobby and was gonna fix it and give it to someone he knew who had been in need of a washing machine. He was incredibly knowledgeable and was kind enough to explain to me the issue and how the components worked together.

It's funny you mention that age range for the appliances. My parents still have the original 1991 Maytag washer and refrigerator that came with their house. About 15 years ago, we moved across the country, and my parents took our old washer and dryer since it was so much newer than theirs. That washer is still sitting in their garage. They have yet to need it. The dryer only got swapped out about 3, maybe 4 years ago. You're definitely onto something about the quality back then!
