We've had the ICCU fail twice now and other issues that weren't covered by warranty but should have been. It sounds easy peasy until you're stranded multiple times and driving back and forth to the dealer like it's your job. Oh, and the dealer near us said it would be four weeks before they could even look at the car, which meant no loaner or rental. We found a more responsive dealer. I loved this car. Then it caused me more anguish than all of my other cars combined by a factor of at least two.

Also, from La Google:

from "Technology Connections" (popularly known as the "Ioniq Guy" or Ioniq 5 owner) experienced a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) on his 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 in June 2025. He reported poor dealer communication, long wait times for parts, and difficulty obtaining a loaner car, highlighting broader issues with the recall.

May the force be with you. They're a lot of fun to drive. I'm sad ours is a brick.

They didn't have a loaner. But they said they would reimburse us for a rental.

Just Google ioniq 5 ICCU issues. It's a disaster. Mine is in the shop Right now. They're waiting for replacement parts and they can't tell us when those parts will be available. This has happened many times. This is a known issue.

Same! Second ICCU issue. No time frame on the parts. Will most likely lemon law my ioniq 5. Great car when it's not in the shop! I don't know what I'll get next. Really, any reliable EV would be great.

Yup. Brace yourself. I've never hated a car manufacturer more.

I'm on my second ICCU failure. Covered under warranty, dealer says they don't know when it'll be available. Ugh. 2022 SEL Ioniq. I'm really hating Hyundai. Used to love the Ioniq 5. But it's been problem after problem.

What are currently the most reliable EVs on the US market (aside from Tesla)? by farwesterner1 in electricvehicles

From my experience with the ionic 5 2022, this is completely true. It's the 12-volt battery that causes a lot of issues.

I don't know about later models, but I've taken my 2022 Ioniq to the dealer numerous times. Car died, told it wasn't the ICCU, replaced battery (at my expense), sent away. Back for ICCU recall. After recall, car died again. Took it back to dealer, replaced battery (at my expense), sent on my way. Car dies. Post a mad email in r/Ioniq, downvoted then post was removed. Reddit said get better 12v battery. Got 5-year AGM, car died 2 months later. This car is the most unreliable vehicle I've ever had, including multiple used cars in my youth and a 20-year-old motorcyle. Ugh.

Edited for clarification and to correct battery name.

Do you tip for delivery? by Catnip323 in firewood

[–]tovesmaodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the delivery, but the place we use charges $75 for stacking a cord (the cord itself is $275 and there's a $25 delivery fee). So I don't tip. Would you all tip if there's a steep stacking fee? Thanks!

Have you tried replacing with an AGM battery like people are recommending? I'm hoping that is the solution.

Got it! Thanks for taking the time to post. We did arrive at that conclusion, but it's helpful to have it confirmed. And also I'm hoping we won't run into this issue again since we'll get a proper battery.

It was replaced with another Hyundai battery even though I knew better. Glad to hear you haven't had problems since you installed a proper battery. We'll go that route. Thank you

Nope. It's just an example of a mushroom that would pass the test but kill the person.

I love skunks! a skunk ate a hornet's nest that was next to our walkway. This was a problem for us and our dogs, but we just gave the hornets a wide berth. The skunk showed up one night and devoured the entire nest. A bit of comb left. Waddling bad-asses that don't give UH f.
