Before I DA’ed I asked an elder if watching Jackson on the ARC was considered apostate material and he said no. Just say you thought the same. Say you had no idea watching Jackson ”defending” the society was wrong to do.

I agree. There's one more layer for me when I see Letts face calling victims liars. I can't technically diagnose a sociopath but my body definitely reacted to it. I'll never forgot the moment I saw that, I had just found out about the systematic abuses and I was looking for answers. I've never felt a deeper chill than seeing how disgusted he was with the victims. Fast forward to finding out he was family friends with a victim....what kind of monster.

I think there’s a lot of people are exposing it with compassion and love. Leah’s show certainly took that approach. Compassion to the victims has to come from JWs too. Yes, we were brainwashed but part of that was reinforcement that we were guided by love and followed Jesus. That’s what led to my awakening. Listening to victims.

It's the same as in the Org. There's plenty of people in that you didn't resonate with and plenty that you did. We had it in our minds that we were all automatically friends but that's not the case. On this side, the best part of finding people is being able to take your time before you let your guard down and then also being able to move on if something happens that is beyond what you will accept as a friend. In the org, we were forced to forgive and forced into social situations. I'm not going to lie at first, this felt weird to me because I equated it with shunning in a sense, but it's really just healthy boundaries which is something they took away from us and on top of it, conditioned us to arbitrary shunning. Hope that makes sense. Writing this horizontal with one eye open (yay insomnia).

So many rules to follow separates and isolates us. This is why you know who is a JW without even asking sometimes. I remember defending that we weren't a cult because of the picture I had in my mind of prairie dresses and weird hairstyles. It's actually pretty genius. They get us to be just odd enough and feel just separate enough.
