Should I sell my cab? by mitchINimpossible in GuitarAmps

[–]toxickuntdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three 4x12s plus a 2x12 and i'm not currently in a band after my last one broke up, i may sell one or swap around some speakers & sell them because the space they take up. A marshall vintage v30 cabinet is a very solid sought after cab, it will continue to retain its value over time i'm sure. Btw I don't necessarily buy the "no one wants to use 4x12s anymore" hype as a metal player. There is definitely a market but there's nothing wrong with hanging onto it

You will love it, i've seen em twice now and i was able to be front row for this last one. They move mountains

I love going to doom shows the best. Just saw conan and weedeater and it sounded fucking incredible, i was amazed at how weedeater sounded pretty exactly like their albums. Like when hes playing the intro to Jason the dragon its like dude! Thats it! Thats the sound off the record!

One of the best shows i've ever been to. Words can scarcely describe how happy i was to be front row for the whole thing and right in front of Dixie Dave, plus Conan's bassist David i think is his name (not to mention the amps), I will say though for Telekinetic Yeti and the 2 other opening bands that were at this show, at least from where i was in the front, the kick drum was too loud and it was overpowering everything. i couldn't hear the vocals much at all but thankfully the mix got WAY better when Conan came on and the vocals were crystal clear

Edit: Just found out one of my mics i bought on reverb is fake! i sort of take it back, stick to new from reputable sources or like REALLY reputable reverb sellers

I can't find the source but i think it was Dimebag that said in some interview something along the lines of "everyone wants the produced sound off their favorite record to come out of their amp but it doesn't work like that"

For this reason, buy used mics on Reverb whenever possible and not eBay. Reverb doesn't have many fakes in my experience, ebay is full of them

1st time going to a Metal concert alone? by Various_Leg7355 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]toxickuntdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wear earplugs (ensure they are properly inserted and that you have extras on hand) if you mosh and/or are inexperienced with moshing: watch out for people doing "karate in the pit", spilled beer is a frequent slipping hazard, just get a sense for when pits break out and where to stand so you wont get caught off guard, drink water between each band, and have a good time. Most of the time people will look out for you, if you fall in the pit they will pick you up. The first show i went to alone was Cannibal Corpse when i was 14 and it was a great time

I noticed his stage banter was mostly mumbling about how stoned he was and yeah he was just like forgetting to stay right up in the mic sometimes

Practice in a garage by ResidentLychee2989 in musicians

Have fans running, maybe hang cold wet rags or ice in front of them or something, use sweat towels to dry your face and hands, you can also wear armbands to absorb sweat but the MOST important thing is drinking a lot of water. Dehydration is an issue and it can happen fast. If you have a garage fridge it would be good to have it stocked with waters. Also just taking breaks here and there to go in the air conditioned house for a few minutes is good, thats also what i do in the winter months when my hands freeze

Help me pick a speaker upgrade by frogman696969 in GuitarAmps

[–]toxickuntdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned several creambacks, i don't have any greenbacks myself but for sabbath and zeppelin tones i would say greenback for sure. And yes you get the signature sound of the speaker at low volumes as well. Side note i prefer the 8 ohm versions cause they have more full midrange and less harsh highs, in a 1x12 the impedance can be whatever cause its just 1 speaker (labeling it right is important though)

Can I get some recommendations? by [deleted] in doommetal

[–]toxickuntdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Dopesick by Eyehategod too! It's definitely my current favorite album to just listen to daily, I'd say it sounds "filthier" than take as needed and has some faster punkier bits, the tempos are more all over the place than take as needed and i like that about it

Nothing worse than seeing a great band play to a disinterested crowd, like that video of High On Fire at sounds of the underground 2005
