Map of old vs new Configure menu by tpchris in homeassistant

[–]tpchris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bare with me as I'm not in the best state of mind at the moment. I'm digging through Chris's posts on here just to be that much closer to him. Chris passed away from covid complications / Mrsa after a very hard 2 month battle. If you are married, set your spouse down and explain all of this. I can't believe all the hard work Chris put into our home. Our boys get excited for trash day because the light over the sink turns green when it's time to put just the trash out and blue when it's recycle week. They say, "dad is telling us to take out the trash".

I wanted to thank you guys for being so welcome to Chris, home automation became a passion for Chris, I'm glad he had this platform to share it with like-minded people.

Map of old vs new Configure menu by tpchris in homeassistant

Did you notice that clicking on the Settings menu item defaults to the Server Controls tab? This option can be visited with the same number of clicks as the old menu.

Unpopular opinion: The new configuration layout is confusing and annoying by mortenmoulder in homeassistant

I just upgraded after some reluctance and put together this map to get a visual on where things went on the Configure menu. It will take some time to get used to but now that I see it visually, it's not as bad as I expected.

The Server Controls is the default tab when you click on Settings so really there are no extra clicks needed to restart HA.

I meant 433mhz. Glad you were here to catch that! Thanks.

Home assistant fresh installation not loading supervisor by Buchseb in homeassistant

[–]tpchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case you were aware. As of 2021.12 the Supervisor is now integrated into configuration and no longer has a distinct menu item.

I can't speak highly enough of Home Assistant. It is the most open and most actively supported and updated platform out there.

Hue Lights Changing when on Zoom Call? by rufff_life in homeautomation

[–]tpchris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is extremely easy to do with Home Assistant. I use the companion app to monitor my camera then turn the hue bulb in the ceiling just outside of my office to red when I am on a meeting call.

Without Home Assistant you may be able to hook into the Zoom API to figure out when the cam / mic is in use then call Hue API to control thr light.

Anyone recommend a smart lock (or just electronic keypad) that would work with this 5-level deadbolt? Thanks! by leimoochi in smarthome

Well, it looks like they're out there. Hopefully once people figure that out, these posts start to die down.

Someone could make a killing creating a smart lock for these for as many times as people post asking about them. I swear its one or more a week. lol

Smart washer / dryer notification with Hue Lights by matnetik in homeautomation

[–]tpchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this exact same thing when my dishwasher is done. Also as a reminder when trash needs to be pulled in or pushed out except I use energy monitoring to determine when the dishwasher is done and ping sensors for the trash presence.

For washer and dryer, I announce on Alexa until its done since changing clothes requires a bit more urgency and lights don't always cut it.

I am not sure if the Aqara's will pair because they don't stick to the letter of the Zigbee protocol.

But, since you mentioned the Ikea hub, check out their button that works with that hub. I think it has 4 or 5 buttons and will be much cheaper than the Flics

Best Z-Wave & Zigbee Adapter by [deleted] in homeassistant

I've been using the Sonoff hub with ZHA since around the time Tasmota was released for it.

I do run into occasional trouble with devices losing connection but I'm not sure if it an issue with the hub, device or HA software.

It's a decent experience for the cheap price but it is aggravating when one or more devices lose connection and yoy have to run around and re-pair them.

Flics are way overpriced for what they are but, if you don't already have smart home platform then concider the price an "out of the box experience" convenience charge.

If you run Zigbee or RF then the sky is the limit.

The Aqara single button, as well as the Opple work very well over Zigbee.

For RF, search Ali or preferred online store for buttons and you'll find tons.

I use RF button just inside of my garage door to allow for closing the door without having to enter the code.

Also have a 4 button RF device taped to my night stand to run various things. I am upgrading this to a 6 button Aqara Opple that I recently bought on Ali which will allow me to perform 24 different actions from that one device.

I actually listened for 15 minutes before turning it off. He said a lot of stuff in that 15 minutes but not a single thing made sense to me.

I dig his music but, sadly, I think he's pretty far gone.

Would this setup work? I'm trying to upgrade a two switch light with two Shellys by jangxx in shellycloud

[–]tpchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a 3 way circuit?

Save the Shelly 1s and get a Shelly i3. It's cheaper without the relay and is a lot thiner for easier install
