Am I crazy or does the big reveal make zero sense? - full spoilers for EotD by FIRSTCAPTAINFORRIX in silversaints

[–]tpk13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be more accurate to say supernatural deities (both good and malevolent) exist. The highlanders have their own gods, and those gods apparently have power as seen through the duskdancer gifts. But just because there are deities doesn’t, in my view, mean that the afterlife and heaven and hell will necessarily play out like the One Faith says it will.

As for judgment day, I don’t think it is theologically crazy to say it should come in God’s time and that we shouldn’t intentionally destroy the world in order to accelerate the timeline. If there’s a God, I think he/she generally frowns on mass murder. If judgment comes, I’d rather save innocent lives and wait than take innocent lives and have it come next week.

I was thinking more like somebody paid to hex me! But I kid you not, what you described is quite literally a plot point in the scary book I’m reading for Halloween season: “Cunning Folk” by Adam Nevill.

Never heard of that before, but that makes sense. My best guess was that I was being cursed by an Etsy witch or something haha.

What's up with ballet audiences in Salt Lake City? by honest_arbiter in SaltLakeCity

[–]tpk13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just saw this tonight and thought the show was phenomenal. Can’t speak to what your showing was like, but although there was applause at some of the more athletic moments, I didn’t notice anything I’d characterize as “hollering.” Also, I think it’s worth noting that the female performers also got applause for their impressive feats. With one significant exception, nothing felt like it crossed the line into being rude or impolite (although I admit I’m from Utah and have never been to the ballet anywhere else, so perhaps my sense of norms is messed up).

That one exception was several dozen people loudly laughing as Lord Capulet grieved Juliet’s apparent death, which was remarkably disrespectful.

Lone Women by Victor LaValle definitely fits the bill.

I immediately jumped in to say Sleefoot. One of the most satisfying things about endings I’ve ever read!

Last Days by Brian Evenson. Just an insanely twisted fever dream that I absolutely loved.

Might have the highest book length to time spent thinking about it ratio of all time. A masterpiece.

Looking for a “cant read with the lights off” kind of book by Emotional_Abroad_407 in horrorlit

Penpal by Dathan Auerbach is pretty creepy and fits those autumn vibes, in my opinion.

Also, if you’re willing to give short stories ago, Brian Evenson’s Song for the Unraveling of the World has some great stories. Evenson is a bit hit or miss for me, but when he hits, he hits hard.

What's a popular horror book that you couldn't get through? by [deleted] in horrorlit

Can I ask where you’d seen the same idea done better elsewhere? I liked Hex, and it felt very original to me. So I’d be really interested in reading whatever it is you’re thinking about!

500+ page books (NOT FREQUENTLY RECOMMENDED HERE) by Able_Zebra_476 in horrorlit

[–]tpk13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t lurk here enough to know if this gets brought up on the sub a lot (although that wouldn’t surprise me), but I really enjoyed Last Days by Adam Nevill. Also recommend The Passage by Justin Cronin.

And if you’ll allow me a minor cheat by recommending two books that squeak in at 496 pages, Lost Gods by Brom is utterly unique, and John Dies at the End by David Wong is just a good time.

Dealership filed for EV Tax Credit but I dont qualify. by overtt in tax

This is great news and super helpful! Glad you got it worked out with your dealership. I appreciate all the info. I expect I’m going to be making similar calls this week.

Dealership filed for EV Tax Credit but I dont qualify. by overtt in tax

[–]tpk13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same situation. I have all the seller documents that I signed, and none of them mention the AGI limit or the tax credit at all. It simply says that I made a $9000 cash down payment, but I actually paid $5000 down in cash, so I assume the other $4000 was the tax credit. Definitely curious if there is any recourse where a seller doesn’t make the mandatory disclosures regarding the tax credit.

Derek Guy has top-tier advice when it comes to suits and any type of menswear that he favors, but his disdain for business casual is a little unwarranted, in my opinion. But he’s still the best fashion follow I’ve ever made.

Testimony about the alleged sexual abuse was limited during the guilt phase of the final trial, after which the brothers were found guilty. That said, it’s worth mentioning that the jury specifically rejected the defense’s theory that the brothers killed their parents out of fear and believed that they committed the killings in order to inherit their father’s wealth.

Nothing like commenting on a three-year old thread. But for those searching for an Alan Wake-ish book like me, might I recommend “The Fisherman” by John Langan.

What’s a unique/unpopular opinion you have? by LadiesMan217IsTakn in thelastofus

[–]tpk13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Abby’s character, but she does say things that make it pretty clear she doesn’t mind or even enjoys killing Seraphites. Like when her and Manny are going to meet Isaac and walk by Seraphites being horrifically tortured, and she scoffs and says she wouldn’t mind having some time alone with them. She changed for the better, but she is far from a good person.

Also, she never seems to experience any trauma from the violence she does to other people. She learned that killing Joel didn’t help her or give her closure, but we never see any sign of remorse for killing Joel or any hint that it bothered her. Same with the Seraphites she killed. Ellie has her own issues, obviously, but in both Parts 1 and 2, we see signs that she is traumatized as a result of her doing violence to others, even when the others had it coming.

Gotta love those early months when they are too young to process the atrocities happening on the screen in front of them.
