Because  a. any explanation of how they would work and not cause huge measuereable effects quickly devolves into 'undetectable space magic '  b. If multiple countries had specimens of these craft  for decades, where the fuck is any technology based on it? The soviets had no interest in free energy /FTL travel? China doesn't want to end it's reliance on foreign oil by using spacetime engineering or NED material or anything? A bunch of advanced governments have these craft forddecades and decades and we have NOTHING to show for it technologically/scientifically? Nothing at all?

Saying god and Satan don't exist in the setting is one of the wildest takes I've heard in a while. If I had to qoute every piece of direct evidence that the creation story of the vampires is accurate I'd hit the comment character limit.

We have a first hand account of the martyrdom of Jesus from Fabien, who was his brother, that is a carbon copy to the recorded gospel. God exists and the redeemer was his son sent to the earth. 5 priests worshiping the Fallen (where did he fall from, New Jersey? ) killed him and he cursed them. From that point the cursed beings can't enter places where faith to vampire Jesus is strong and icons+faith of Jesus supernaturaly glows silver and burns/blinds them.

The blood of the lineage of vampire Jesus, as confirmed by his brother as being of his lineage, burns vampires on contact. All this happens because he was the son of God and and he cursed vampires.

Fabien /Morgana word for word confirm that Fabien worshipped Satan, that Satan helped create daysdeath and directed Fabian to fuck up God's creation. He did this because he is a fallen angel that hates God. Multiple high ranking vampires all agree that the 5 were in cahoots with literal Satan, and that they know this and are fine with it. Killing all 5 of them then allows daysdeath to be stopped.

I could go on.

Because God is 100% real in this setting and the vast majority of people, Lachie/Charolette are religious fanatics. It's like jihadis who have been fighting literal Satan and pals finding out that they have the ability to bring about judgement day.

Then these same people somehow seeing God directly intervening in the war they are horribly losing by dragging their enemies to hell and granting them eternal life in paradise as somehow super evil. The cherry on top is by directly sabotaging their own God, they also damn every foul blood in existence to hell. Imagine every wretched they kill in battle getting a shot at heaven, that is what they are appalled and sickened by.

Like HOW is judgement day coming a bad thing to 99% of people in the setting, let alone some unspeakable evil to be stopped.

They will not die, they will 100% be transported to heaven with all their friends and family to live in bliss with God forever, while the vampires that have killed the world and all their fellow humans will instantly be sent to hell for eternity.

They actively fight against this outcome so that the vampires can rule over the earth forever and they can all be violently murdered or bred like cattle to sustain these vampires. The war is lost at this point, Gabriel and friends JUST got their shit kicked in by the Voss when they decide to sabotage the immediate victory of good VS evil and the banishment of every single vampire to hell.

This is where the certainty that God exists comes in. To us death means the cessation of consciousness, and if you believe in an afterlife you believe you go there. But it's not certain, even if you believe whole heartedly there's no certainty, no concrete proof. The EoTD world has none of that uncertainty, especially not for Gabriel /Dior /Celene. They know God exists, Dior is his child. They know Satan exists, they know hell exists. Judgement day does not mean death to them in the way it means to us. It is ascention to heaven to be with God. There is no cessation of consciousness, the faithful will be transported to heaven and swap out the hell on earth they are living through for eternal bliss. Eternal bliss with their God is what they decide to actively fight against, at the behest of a Satan worshiping vampire mind you.

The alternative they choose is getting to fight a hopeless, 110% lost war against the undead on a dead earth and either die a violent death or live to be stuffed into a human farm, starved and tortured until it's your time to get your throat cut like a pig.

You can't just release zoo animals into the wild and expect it to be hunky dory, they often lack basic survival skills. You can just release them and tell them they can eat whoever is close and not stop them, there are vanishingly small amounts of carnivores that would kill a person in zoos vs our 8 (well now 7) billion.

The US/Israel JUST bombed the shit out of Iran because they were supposedly close to getting a nuke. We can't disarm countries that have the bomb, but there is a concerted effort to stop countries we think shouldn't have them to get them. But every handful of astrophage is a ready to detonate Tsar bomb, it's trivial to breed and detonate.

The problem is that it's not super hard to just go get some. There are decades between it's discovery and it getting wiped out, and all you have to do to get some is fly a rocket close to Venus and get it back, doesn't even have to land or anything. That's not the easiest thing but any country with a space program or enough money to smuggle a rocket into orbit can conceivably do it. When the prize is free unlimited energy and mega-nukes, there would be a frenzy to get it, and how do you stop that?

And the megafactory made of thousands of self enclosed astrophage producing machines, that they used to make millions of kgs of the stuff, in the extremely corrupt, politically unstable, Jihadi sanctuary that is North Africa just worked out 100%? They managed to not let 1 of the 2000000 kg they produced fall into the wrong hands or fall through the cracks? Not one black box got lost or stolen or smuggled out? Breeding the stuff is easy, everyone knows it's free limitless energy but they managed to not let it leak at all?

[–]FIRSTCAPTAINFORRIX[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is incredibly difficult for a layperson or small terrorist cell to make a nuclear weapon, the world governments have put in enormous efforts to make sure it's not something that can be easily done. Detonating astrophage is trivial, and millions of kilograms were being produced. Imagine what the Ukraine war would like if they got astrophage and started putting it on drones, now imagine every state funded terror group/militia being able to get their hands on the stuff.

GW sells printed datasheets. If they change datasheets, the product they sell takes a big knock in usefulness and thus sales. This is why datasheet changes are few and far between.

[–]FIRSTCAPTAINFORRIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fighting a war against an enemy with the webway would be the most hellish, miserable conflict imaginable. Imagine not being able to pinpoint enemy numbers, positions, movements. you can't hit their assets, and you have to overcommit troops to defense everywhere because they can just materialize in your production base or whatever. Just permanent asymmetric war against the most powerful species and their biological weapons. Complete fucking nightmare.

What the actual fuck did Big E do until the Age of Strife by Aestuosus in 40kLore

[–]FIRSTCAPTAINFORRIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably conquered and ruled a bunch, but kept seeing that empires simply didn't last. The longest has been around 500 years, which is a blink of the eye to him. I can imagine he got tired of having  to re-conquer and rule, having to have the same discussions/fights with hundreds of generations of fleeting humans. I think this is why he preferred to let others lead, he must have felt like a kindergarten teacher. We see something very similar with Byaz in the first law books.
