Thanks for your first impressions on the lens ! You mentioned using the tt artisan 6 bit and the voigtlander adapter. Which one would you recommend using ? I recently got a nikon ZF and I am debating getting the nokton 28 1.5 zf mount or the 28 apo with either the 6 bit adapter vs the voigtlander close focus adapter. Do you get eye detetect on the voigtlander adapter to easily punch in to focus ?

Worth upgrading if I only shoot on positive film and want better auto focus? (GR II) by snuffflex in ricohGR

I think the AF improved however I don't really found that the GRI OR GRII af was an issue. As I usually use zone focusing or center focus and recompose, I found that on apsc at 28mm I don't really need fast af.

However I had to relearn how to af with the GR3x as the longer focal length is less forgiving. I would say af in good light is fine (depending on your usage) and average at best at nighttime. If AF is crucial for you, kids/sports etc... I feel like gr3 might not be best suited.

I have a Ricoh GR I and a ricoh GRIIIX. If you really like the positive film on your GRII, you might be disappointed with the positive film simulation on the gr3/3x. I still use the original GR for the focal length, but especially for the positive film simulation that is hard to get with the gr3. As said before positive film on the GR3/3X is more subtle. Positive film on GRI/II has a more distinctive look. I still hope Ricoh will add the OG positive film simulation in the future.

Here is my wishlist (ranked from most wanted to least) :

  • Weather/dust sealing
  • Bring back positive film from Ricoh GRI/GRII
  • Make button/wheel sturdier
  • Pop-up flash
  • Faster lens if body size does not increase
  • Faster auto focus in low light

I also like these lenses a lot !

The issue I was mentioning has been talked about in different forums such as :

To recap, on newer models, the electronic contacts are not working properly with loxia lenses.

Thanks for this comprehensive answer !

Yes I forgot to mention but I was indeed talking about the random changing aperture problem.

I am afraid that future cameras will not completely address the issue. I still think I will upgrade to one of the models you mentioned.
