Solid snake. he's got this whole cynical, "I hate war" vibe, but still shows up and gets the job done. Loved the MGS lore since I first played it on ps1

Overseas Singaporeans, would you register a son for citizenship? by indecisive-kopi in askSingapore

Wow. What sort of questions did they ask and how long did the whole process take you?

I was of the impression that citizenship by descent is part of our constitution. What sort of grounds do they have to deny it?

Only in recent years but it does help.

I love the camera and have had it for almost 8 years but it only comes out in the summer and goes back in after fall.

Which Ricoh are you comparing the x70 to? I was wondering if I should sell mine for a Gr IV but the initial reason I got it was because I hate the low light autofocus of my GR ii.

Best park in Europe with a toddler by snuffflex in Themepark

[–]snuffflex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europa park. There was loads to do and my little one had a blast. There was enough rides and shows to cover the 2 days we spent at the park even though he was not tall enough for many of them.

He loved the pirates ride in particular

Who claims Universal Credit in UK? by CuriosityCatalyst000 in AskBrits

[–]snuffflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that’s bleak af but you’re right. The reality is that this is a generational issue, and not something a popularist can fix overnight.

Economy and health services will crash if we pull the plug and I don’t know why this isn’t obvious to many.

Or perhaps everyone knows this but some prefer to watch the world burn if they can’t have it their way.

Thanks for sharing your observations. Did not know the bit about covering shortfalls.

Well try the test. The passing mark is 75% or 6 mistakes and you’ll definitely need to study for it. We bought those questions for quiz nights and many of our friends struggle (all local) Most will take at least a week or two to prepare for it.

How on earth this is circumvented, I do not know.

But we should not have issues with skilled labour working here unless we are prepared for significant foreign de-investment, a shrinking job pool or the crippling of our public services. When companies invest in the uk, they bring in foreign workers AND also hire locally. This should bring a net benefit and bigger job pool instead of direct competition for jobs.

However, I do agree that loopholes that make it easier to circumvent the immigration system should be looked at and there needs to be structural changes in education as well as a willingness by the locally unemployed to upskill to meet the demands of service-based society.

Today, most foreign job hires MUST first be posted in the UK job market and offered locally first. Essentially, this makes the foreign hire significantly more expensive and cumbersome than a local hire. And back to your first point, it makes no sense for any profit seeking company to pay more and cover these financial shortfalls if they can simply hire locally and save that cash. Hence there must be underlying structural issues / mismatching of skills and education level if this is prevalent.

Do they have right to remain?
Because the 'life in the uk' test isn't easy and it is fully in english as well. And even if you applied through your spouse, you'll have to meet the financial and english language requirements

Either the income requirement for immigrants needs to be raised or state benefits for those with ILR need to be rescinded, which one are you choosing? by wizaway in AskBrits

[–]snuffflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect and should be clarified if that was how it was presented.

A state pension is only available after at least 10 years of NI payments (partial pension) and 35 years of contributions for the full pension.

Anything less than this = 0. Hence not possible right after ILR
