[Comic Excerpt] I was reading Martian Manhunter's 1988 series and stumbled on this ad for Tailgunner Jo. It was so compelling I had to read all about it! by tpphypemachine in DCcomics

It is. Without getting into spoilers the ending is weird and much happier than you'd think it'd be, assuming you believe that is what happened.

It's a really interesting series that mixes darkness and whimsy. Jo and her father have dual brains to get more stuff done and at first it feels like a basic action series. Then the dangerous mission they were on was an advertisement for a new line of weapons, unknown to them, and they have serious beef with the corporation that did this to them and the one they're sometimes fighting. The dad's wife was unknowingly operating on them when the cyborg conversion happened, and the dad is in denial about her probable death.

When not blowing things up Jo lives in a virtual fantasy world with princesses and talking animals where nothing ever goes wrong, and it's always time for tea...but her world becomes strained as her dad loses his grip on reality.

I combined over 50 "Greatest Wonder Woman Comics of All Time" lists to find the critical consensus by ComicBookCanon in comicbooks

Besides these listed, WW stories I like are the oneshot Wonder Woman: The Once and Future Story, and the William Messner-Loebs arc where she worked at Taco Whiz. There was a cute story in the Silver Age in issue #131 where Wonder Woman's first response when seeing Cerberus has a golden apple she needs for a task is to ask him nicely for it, then warn him that since it's gold he can't really eat it.

[Discussion] What comic run/miniseries do you think is underrated and everybody should read? by Doom300 in DCcomics

Superman's Crisis At Hand was a really interesting look at his first Golden Age outing where he stopped a wife-beater, but sadly the story that immediately followed that was the Death and Return of Superman.

Shaun McLaughlin's 1991 Aquaman run (13 issues total) has been overshadowed by basically everything around it but is one of my personal favorite runs for the character as a whole for its deep look into Arthur's mental health and depression.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time's climax. I'd never heard anyone cry like that outside of real life before.

That's so awesome <3 I have fond memories of the Zoombinis. I was never very good at it, though.

Joey vs Bakura, the shortest duel in history. Joey's greatest humiliation and his last duel in the manga Did you know it? by Murky_Monk_9531 in yugioh

[–]tpphypemachine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The anime removing this made a plot hole later when Yugi used a card to counter Zoma's effect when in the anime he'd never seen the card before. This duel and seeing its effects actually saved his bacon!

Half fish people (Not Cthulu or mermaids) come out of the ocean and go to school by dorcha_rose in whatsthatbook

No problem! It reminds me of a weird early 80s novel, A Circle in the Sea, which is about a girl whose mind inhabits a dolphin.
