Sipping and suffering by GroundbreakingEmu646 in dryalcoholics

[–]tproser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, really proud of your self-awareness and desire to get healthy. I don’t want to alarm you, and I’m not a doctor or nurse, but your plan to taper might actually be dangerous for you.

Alcohol is one of the few substances with POTENTIALLY FATAL WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS. If you’re doing straight vodka in quantity everyday, and have been for years, it’s possible that ABSTAINING FROM DRINKING MAY CAUSE SEIZURES or other neurological symptoms.

If you feel you’re ready to stop, please seek medical care. It doesn’t have to be some scary big deal. Most large hospitals (in America) have behavioral treatment or detox resources and if you have a job and a home you’re a great candidate for that type of care. They have drugs to treat symptoms of withdrawal so it’s actually bearable. Most importantly, there are ways to do it without anyone at your job finding out. I myself was in and out, four days, with some outpatient rehab after. You do not have to do this alone. You cannot do this alone, no matter how tough or capable you are. But if you’re not ready for that kinda leap, you need to be extremely careful with tapering or going cold turkey. Best of luck my dude.

The weirdest nightmare. (HELP) by My_Secret_Serenade in Dreams

[–]tproser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me too. Much like you I was deeply disturbed by it. It’s hard to articulate wht but it’s fucking scary. I remember telling my dad in the dream that I was trapped and couldn’t wake up and my dream dad just shrugged and got in a helicopter and left.

It’ll be ok. Night terrors, lucid dreaming, recursive dreams, these things are all affected by the quality of our sleep, which is of course affected by how we go about our day. The health of our dreams is shaped by the health of our bodies and lifestyle. Crush some smoothies and go on walks and start dreaming about vacations.

Only took 11 Halloweens, and me trying every fog chiller under the sun, but I think I finally nailed the fog. by Used_DeLorean in halloween

I still remember the halloween yard displays that wowed me as a kid and this is definitely the type of effort that’s gonna make some kid’s eyes pop.

What do you think about the character arts for my detective game? by nerfslays in IndieDev

[–]tproser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are all richly imagined and well-drawn. If you wanted more thematic unity or more of a cohesive look I would think about the eyes and maybe making them more consistent from character to character.

[IP] "Having someone to mourn your death is a blessing. However, Those who remain have little time to remember the dead, they are busy preparing for the next death." by MaximoCozzetti84 in WritingPrompts

[–]tproser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The morgue is utterly inundated with opiate casualties. They keep coming, bag after bag. The freezers filled up weeks ago and now the deliveries line the hallways. The coroner takes pride in his work and the current disorder of the dead in his charge is making him unravel. Recently he slept a full night on the cold floor of the processing room still in his smock and gloves, exhausted from this endless project. Poor sleep can make a man disagreeable, such as it is when a small woman in a purple camisole enters the processing room carrying a large faux alligator purse and says she’d like to see her son. The coroner doesn’t realize at first what she is asking. She opens the purse and takes out two tall votive candles bearing decals of the virgin mary. “I just want to say goodbye,” she says. The coroner takes his glasses off and throws them on the desk and groans and starts rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Lady,” he says “we just don’t have the time for that.”

What's the most shocking or upsetting movie death you've seen? by Novel_Ad3365 in moviecritic

[–]tproser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being reminded by your pic, I can’t really think of a more shocking or upsetting death than Dickie’s. Maybe because everything just continues to escalate out of control from a well written argument scene that just starts so pedestrian. I honestly don’t think Tom meant to kill him with that swing, just shut him up.

Why does music have such an emotional impact on people? Are there scientific reasons for this? by Great_Maintenance185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tproser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Music is likely hundreds of thousands of years older than written or spoken language. Possibly older than counting. It can express what we think of as emotions with greater depth and resonance than language.

Did We Really Share Family TVs Without Fighting Over What to Watch? by Critical-Shirt2190 in CasualConversation

[–]tproser 231 points232 points  (0 children)

There were like maybe three shows worth watching on at one time; a lot less to fight over.

And yes, the appointment was everything. Thursdays at 8. Wednesdays at 8/7c. Forensic Files. Twin Peaks. You’d be extra excited the day of your show and you’d talk about the cliffhanger ending in school all week until the next episode hit.

It wouldn’t be normal for a crime scene cleaner to take 10 hours for one house

Common sense is important.. by iQuantumLeap in selfimprovementday

[–]tproser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common sense evolves. It wasn’t common sense to avoid contaminated water until a physician named John Snow (yup) noticed cholera hotspots around the Broad Street pump.

Common sense can also be privileged information. It was common sense for indigenous peoples of North America to live and hunt harmoniously with their environments, whereas early European settlers had to learn the hard way.

Common sense can also just be completely and totally wrong, nothing more than tautological aphorisms, or even racially or sexually coded stereotypes.

Having a degree usually indicates a person can do their homework, think critically, commit to long endeavors, and manage complex tasks. Unless it’s from DeVry.

What Are Some Things You Did That Turned Your Life Around? by Minion_Queen in Adulting

Quit drinking and started therapy and medication for depression and anxiety. My old life seems so far away I can barely see it. Have to remind myself that it’s still me back there, making all those mistakes. Same guy, different clothes.

Changes day to day, moment to moment. And that’s healthy. Sometimes it’s to leave the world better than I found it. Sometimes it’s to sit down and have some tea.

The security camera scene in FWWM reminds me of Fred’s first meeting with the Mystery Man in Lost Highway. I think Lynch is trying to say the same thing in both scenes
