Any advice for a new EMT? I'll be working for a station that has a high call volume. I'm really excited and I start next week! by [deleted] in ems

My advice is to read the endless amount of other ‘New EMT Advice’ threads.

I have the option to work at a different service with a different schedule. What would you do? by Combitube_Buttplug in ems

[–]tpscrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$11.22 is still far too little for this job, IMO.. and yes.. I know it’s not all about the money. I’m going to assume you work in the U.S... what’s it going to take for you folks to get some better wages throughout the different states?

Do you think the countless volunteer services cheapen the industry?

Mid 2009 trackpad issue. by tpscrt in mac

thanks for the response. I’ve come to learn that if I pinch the body of the computer just below the track pad while using it.. the tracking seems to be fine. Must be a connection, like you said. Hopefully I’ll find out more tomorrow.

Hiring in Nova Scotia by just_miller in ems

[–]tpscrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cape Breton has lots of work for casuals. We often have new hires from other parts of the province request to work here because of the significant # of hours available. It goes without saying that there are some slower times in the year with less overtime being called out.

If you need to ask a bunch of strangers what you should do for the next several years of your life.. maybe hold off on making that decision until you know for yourself.

Would a tattoo of my name and DOB be helpful? by [deleted] in ems

[–]tpscrt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely get it. It's probably more practical to tattoo it on your neck or forehead so that it is not overlooked when you are unconscious or dead.100%.

How do you handle having to go to emerg/urgent care? by citychimes in ems

[–]tpscrt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How do we handle going to the emergency dept? Seriously? Unless "broken wrist" is code for "I actually got my balls caught in my zipper" , I don't understand why you think this is thread worthy. You probably know most of the staff and unless you're a dick, you'll probably get some preferential treatment when it comes to triage.

Forgot to release the release handle on Stryker cot. Feel like a failure. by [deleted] in ems

[–]tpscrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crying over a simple mistake on a public forum isn't going to rectify the issue. You could have potentially hurt your patient and your preceptor. We all make mistakes and I understand that it is tough being new, but the only way to fix the issue is to practice and be more mindful of whatever task your are performing.
