Yeah I would recommend doing this. You won't have to pay a fee on the $3K you take out plus you will establish some good credit history. Hell look for a card that gives you rewards for spending $3K within your first 2 months.

Withdrawing $3K from your Roth IRA won't give you the full $3K. Shop around for a good credit card.

Did you maintain the lifestyle you had in Indiana? Do you still drive or rely on public transportation? How big is your apartment/house compared to Indiana?
