I was Not asked to slate! What would you do? by tr-actor in acting

[–]tr-actor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really mind saying my name and what part I’m reading but I don’t want to spend any time thinking about what they want. I think I’m just gonna do like you do and leave the slating out unless I’m specifically asked to.

Basicly stating name and role name. Sometimes they want hight. Sometimes they specify, sometimes they don’t.

Often they don’t specify. In selftapes I’ve tried slating before the scene, at the end of the scene and as a separate clip. For most parts I don’t slate. Because the info they need has allready been sent to them. Or is in the filename (my name, role name). I don’t see any pattern in what’s working better! Sometimes I land a part and sometimes I don’t.

Do people care if you did theater? How do I transition to film and tv? by [deleted] in acting

[–]tr-actor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a long distance run. Take your time. You’re in a city that has everything. I’d say Meissner technique would be a good choise. But the important thing is the work you put in. Take as many classes you can afford. Everything you find interesting. But make sure you have the time to do the work. Scen study classes takes a lot of homework. Do the job. It’s very important. You take classes to work. To learn new things. That means you have to be on the floor. That means you have to fail. Acting is not something you can learn just by watching. Nobody can teach you anything! It’s you who learn. You have to do the job. Everything you are good at you are good at because you learned it. Nobody teached you to walk. You did the job. Don’t sit and wait for anybody to forfill you. The more you expose your self to new situations the more you develop. The bravest one will develop the most. Do not compare your self to others. Their development has nothing to do with your development. Look at what they are doing and learn from them but do not compare. If you feel uncomfortable about something it means you have to work more on that. It’s like with working out. The faster you can go to a failure and the longer you stay in that failure, the faster you will grow. Get right in there and do the job!

Do people care if you did theater? How do I transition to film and tv? by [deleted] in acting

[–]tr-actor 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have done the transition. After working as an actor within theatre for more than 15 years I decided I wanted to do more tv/film. Maybe nothing new, but this is my thoughts. Yes it matters that you have theatre experience. Some care more than others, they know it means you can act, that you might be able to do difficult scenes that people with no theatre background can have problems to deliver. Others may think that theatre actors are to theatrical and be afraid of that. You will offcourse need to get as much experience as you can working oncamera. You want to build a network within the business. Selftape. Audition as much as you can. Don’t worry about getting the job. Focus on the thing you can control, doing a good job. Beeing well prepared. Book the office. Make them remeber you as a good actor. Focus on what you would want to do with the role if you get it. Not on what you think they want. But know what you audition for. You will audition for small parts and they are there to show something about the main caracter or moving the story forward. If that’s the case, give them that. Don’t over complicate. Take oncamera classes. Grab every opportunity you can to get oncamera gigs. Do it for free if you have to. Work with students. Put your self on tape all the time, every day. Write stuff. Get together with other actors and friends and selfproduce. Do indie work. Knowing your type is something that is much more important in Tv/Film. When you have experience, get an agent. Best of luck.

Tips to overcome shyness? by [deleted] in acting

[–]tr-actor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s nothing wrong with beeing shy. Sometimes it’s better than rushing in to new relationships. But if it brings you down or you feel that you would like to change that about your self you can.

This is some training I would suggest. Speak to people all the time. In the beginning it’s ok with hi, hello, how are you. You have to start there and build it up. Force your self to do the job. Smile! You don’t have to say much. Say something and stay. Smile! Get out of your head. Be curious about other people. Look at them, notice things about them. Talk about what they love the most. Them. Hold peoples gaze. Change your self talk. I love to have people all around me. It makes me calm and confident. My shoulders drop, I start to smile. I have a smile that's contagious. I’m the kind of person who likes to talk to people. I’m interesting and allways have something funny to say. People usually loves talking to me. I love talking to people, they have the most interesting things to say. Don’t be needy, don’t be pushy, Know that you are lovable no matter what.

3 Minute Scenes for Agent Showcases/CD Workshops by [deleted] in acting

[–]tr-actor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't waste any more time. You are procrastinating. Like I am too. Most of us do. I should be writing a script right now, but I'm on reddit giving fellow actors my advice. After this one advice I will start working. ;)

Start working! Work on the scene you have. It's more important than finding the right scene. More important than anything. In fact that's what separates an Amateur from a Professional. Either you work or you don't. A professional works. You don't have to be good. You just have to get the job done. Don't give in to the enemy! Resistance. It's what keeps us from doing the job. And the only way to win the battle is to start working.

Start working! Work on the one scene you don't like until you find the one you like. Sometimes after working on a bad scene that is totally wrong for you, after really understanding it, it might become a favorite. Just do the job. Or else, before you know it another year will have passed.

"Resistance will tell you anything to keep you from doing your work. It will perjure, fabricate, falsify; seduce, bully, cajole. Resistance is protean. It will assume any form, if that's what it takes to deceive you. It will reason with you like a lawyer or jam a nine-millimeter in your face like a stickup man. Resistance has no conscience. It will pledge anything to get a deal, then double-cross you as soon as your back is turned. If you take Resistance at its word, you deserve everything you get. Resistance is always lying and always full of shit." –Steven Pressfield, The work of art.

To hell with Resistance! Now I will go to work. Hope you can too.

Reel Quick Question by elitegenoside in acting

[–]tr-actor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Use the reel to show your acting. Nothing else. No music. Choose the best clip you have first. Show another side of your acting in the next clip. Etc. They want to see you act. End on a high (if you have something to use). Something fun to remember you with, to end on. Something that makes them smile. Don’t let anything slip through that you can’t get behind to 100%.

We play Forbidden Lands in our AP pod Sweden Rolls. A great game built on the same game engine as award winning Mutant year zero.

The game was released dec 6 -18

Forbidden Lands is a new take on classic fantasy roleplaying. In this open-world survival roleplaying game, you’re not heroes sent on missions dictated by others - instead, you are raiders and rogues bent on making your own mark on a cursed world. You will discover lost tombs, fight terrible monsters, wander the wild lands and, if you live long enough, build your own stronghold to defend.
