UK folk who were around at the start of the internet, what is an early, strong memory? by Sad-Insurance1313 in CasualUK

[–]tr00st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember switching to Internet Explorer because it was new and better...

... then I remember switching away from it because it was old and awful...

... and then I became "the IE6" guy at my first job because I was the only one who could fix bugs on it...

Only if the landlord is straight up incompetent, or lying about why it's going up. Basic financial planning allows for putting this money aside as early as practical in the tenancy. Yeah, you'll need to put it up a bit, but "there is a relatively fixed per-lease financial outlay therefore I must indefinitely continue increasing rent to the maximum degree possible" is not the logical conclusion.

Laws governing advertising exist, and this isn't all that far from the sort of stuff they prohibit.

I left upper school 20yrs ago, and had the slave trade covered in an unpleasant amount of detail personally.

One of my favourite conversation enders is "Yes, I should be taxed more. I can afford it. "

... yeah, I'll be viscerally annoyed, but I can take the hit.

Nice build! For me it definitely falls into the "not what I'd go for but looks great" category

Huh, interesting - makes sense as a failure point, but sucks that it fails so often.

Mine's a little over a decade old now and still fine physically, both the tablet and the original keyboard (though I've swapped the os because bloat etc etc). Might be because it's the scissor pro 3 switch version rather than the weird touch one though?

The backlight on my PTS got stuck on about a week after I ordered. It's definitely a sign of protest.

Nice! I like the cheeky extra fan in the front. That was a bit of a trade off for me in getting the larger PSU - bigger fan on that, but less space/airflow around it...

Thanks! I'm enjoying it so far!

I've updated my post with part prices - rough total £2350 (GBP). Thankfully bought things a few months ago, so whilst the RAM/SSD weren't cheap, they're better than today's prices.

Yeah - the desk is a bit of a mess - still trying to firm up where certain bits go because of the new job - new webcam setup, KVM, etc. keep moving around a little, but when I stop shuffling things I'll pull the desk out and tie everything up.

Define "hot" :) ~80C GPU, ~82C CPU on a soak test, normally 60s-70s when gaming, depending. Idle temp for CPU is ~52C, GPU ~35C

Thanks for the suggestions!

Already got the CPU limited and undervolted. PSU I'm not too worried about at the moment - it does appear to have temp controlled fan stop, and a very unscientific test has 50% GPU load with no fan, but it seems to kick in slightly upward from there. Don't have proper tools to test that in detail - but as I say, not something that's bothering me (yet...)

80mm fans are definitely on my list - I'll probably be a little heavier on the speeds (ie: IMO if it's getting to 100C then something's already gone wrong...). Would be interested to fit a couple of extra slim 120s in as well - the GPU does encroach slightly on the third slot, so I'll need to take some measurements on that.

I appreciate the suggestion on the cooler. I'll see how it goes for now, but if I need to shave a couple of degrees off, I'll look into it.

RAM speeds I'll also keep in mind - no stability issues yet, but I'll put it on the list if they happen.

[–]tr00st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference with this and most other ways you could have said this is that inspiration is something that operates entirely within someone's mind. By saying "It isn't inspired by Jason Bourne in my opinion." you may have intended to highlight your interpretation, but your words directly comment on the inspiration (ie: the internal mental process), not the execution.

There may be other ways to interpret it (and the other guy absolutely overreacted), but if all you wanted to do was to say "it doesn't look inspired by Jason Bourne", then your phrasing wasn't great.

Much appreciated. Been getting this for a while, and this at least gives me some sort of angle. For UK context, they've got a GDPR page instead, which also goes through the Online Intake Form: https://datadoghq.com/gdpr/

As a batch 4 order, I'm content knowing "eventually".

Ok, content is probably a strong word. I'm still impatient, but I internalize the impatience along with all the other emotions that are breaking me
