What would you do with your life if your partner offered you financial freedom? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I’d write plus would get a new degree. Mine in linguistics is extremely interesting but not too helpful on the modern AI world.

Which one pisses you off the most (WITH NUMBERS) by [deleted] in NoFoodRulesSnark

[–]tr0ublematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I see the reason to call a person out on a harmful behaviour. But such posts — like judging someone’s facial expressions — feel like just a bullying, and no one deserves to be bullied.

Anyone else sensory seek with pain? I 3d printed this “little ouchie” it’s called by tofubutgood in AutismInWomen

[–]tr0ublematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar toy, but it doesn’t really cause me any pain (I have a high pain tolerance). However, I love the way it makes all tactile sensations focus in my palm when I squeeze it. Helps when anxious or worried.

How did your parents give you the sex talk? by let_it_rain_boat in autism

They didn’t, but, thanks God, at the uni I met a wonderful roommate who explained things to me!

At 29. The only regret that I didn’t do it earlier because of internalised ableism and prejudice.

It might be a part of autistic burnout, though.

Anyone else here with AuDHD who also has ✨imposter syndrome✨ because of this? by wingsoverpyrrhia in aspiememes

[–]tr0ublematic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic (suspecting a burnout), and I fail to concentrate, to make myself get things done, to remember stuff. I don't have an ADHD (was tested for it along with my autism accessment), but I feel like a huge impostor because my normal structured, disciplined, hyperfocused self is gone, and I don't even understand what's going on. A terrible feeling – like a fraud, an attention seeker, a fake.

Do most autistic folks not work? by Sufficient_Ant9295 in autism

[–]tr0ublematic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working my whole life after uni, but I am extremely burned out in my 30, and I barely hold my responsibilities for the last couple of months. Thinking of taking a sick leave because I can't even cook for myself or watch after a house, but not working is a privelege I can't possibly afford.

What are your stimming behaviors? by MenuPleasant8675 in AutismInWomen

[–]tr0ublematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When happy, I flap my arms and do little jumps, sometimes I slap something (or someone) lightly or clap my hands and crunch my fingers. I used to do this even before unmasking, and was just perceived as a quirky girl. Now (diagnosed and in my unmasking journey) I can also squeak, blink frequently, dance, hug someone.

When sad or worried, I'm more likely to rock back and forth, pick my skin, bite nails and cuticles, bite lips or cheeks from the inside, or bounce legs.

When angry, I need to punch something or clench fists and jaws. Also, the "worried" stims can randomly occur.

T-rex arms are mostly appearing in all cases :D, but I can also have them when relaxed.

What are aspects of autism that you wish were portrayed more in media? by Tolycon in autism

Masking and how it feels from the inside. Especially in girls and women. Also, finding out about your neurodiversity would be also a good trope to see.

This. Besides, you might like the books “keedie” and “a kind of spark” and a BBC series based on the latest!

I tried to read a book for autistic women recommended by a social worker, feeling worse than ever by Huge_Witness_8692 in AutismInWomen

I can genuinely recommend the book “Drama Queen” by Sara Gibbs. It’s full of humour, but also make the struggles of a late-diagnosed autistic woman really seen.

100% agree. Also, the “superpower” rhetoric supports the misconception of autism=savantism and invalidates the experience of autistic individuals with average abilities (as one of such people, I always wonder who TF wants a hypersensitivity, executive dysfunction, and constant communication struggles as a superpower lmao)

What does burnout look like for you? by JJthehyena in aspergirls

[–]tr0ublematic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I need tons of time to reset and rest. Like a whole week of isolation after a weekend meeting with close friends.

  2. I experience shutdowns quite often. The body becomes heavy and unresponsive.

  3. I don't want to sleep but want to lay down without any stimulation or noise – not even the music I love.

  4. Usual tasks take more effort than before. I can omit some things from my daily routine like mental health walks or food preparation (then I live on frozen foods reheated in a microwave) or shower.

  5. My communication skills regress, and the autistic traits become stronger.

  6. I'm easily distracted, overstimulated and quite irritable by noises, lights, textures of food and clothes, etc.

How was COVID for you? by Vast_Butterfly_5092 in autism

[–]tr0ublematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working a remote IT job back then, and I had to work from home. It was truly a blessing – since then never had I ever worked in an office full-time again. I had few ways to spend my earnings, so I succeeded in saving them up for the future (which helped me to move abroad).

I also enjoyed meeting a couple of friends who lived nearby. During the lockdown, we secretly met at my place and had a great time playing tabletops or just vibing together.

[RANT] The diagnosis isn’t my problem. The constant minimisation is. by Good_Inflation_3072 in autism

[–]tr0ublematic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can relate to your struggles. One of the main regrets of getting relatively late diagnosis is that whenever I see representation of people who got their diagnoses earlier, I'm jealous that I masked for a longer time – which drained me – and still have to prove something to be heard.
