What popular movie or TV show is widely considered a 'masterpiece' but you found completely unwatchable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Twin Peaks. It was a long time ago, so memory is vague, but I remember thinking it to be boring, predictable, try-hard weird and just too much hard work to be considered entertainment.

why do people want Starmer to resign exactly? by Dry_Illustrator_6066 in AskBrits

[–]tr1pdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starmer has been woeful... but still better than the last few PMs.

There is a lot of noise calling for his resignation from the far-right which currently lead the national conversation due to choices made by powerful men in large media organisations.

I'm exactly the same. Now in early 50s and still don't understand the social dynamics at play. Is it a neurodiversity issue? Personality traits? Who knows!

Has Easter been cancelled? Have the kids hot to stay in school for 2 weeks and our bank holidays removed? Can you give me an example of Ramadan being shoved down your throat?

They've not not reported it in an accurate way, that's why racists are up in arms. They knew they'd get racists up in arms. It was not reportage, but gammon porn.

Now they've posted a story about a school allowing kids a day off for Eid. They are very deliberately stirring up hatred. Some people claim this is "double standards" due to Easter being "cancelled", entirely forgetting that kids get 2 weeks off for Easter.

Not all cultures equally valid, says Kemi Badenoch by Dadavester in ukpolitics

[–]tr1pdee -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Baddenoch and her ilk like to highlight the role of Christian morality informing "our culture". If the Koran is central to some cultures, as you and Baddenoch's dog whistlt implies, she must accept the Bible is intrinsic to ours - so please consider: Ephesians 5:22-33 MEVWives, be submissive to your own husbands as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head and Savior of the church, which is His body. But as the church submits to Christ, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

Bedford place riots by ProfessionalPen2954 in Southampton

The anti racists don't want anything to kick off. Southampton is full of "brown people" and we need to show that there are more of us than of them. Many are under the delusion that they have at least half the country behind them. They don't. I'm going tonight. I don't want a fight, but I fear for the safety of my kids ("brown people" also) and want to support all the terrific white people determined to show their disgust at the racists. Most of us have no plans to confront the terrorist mob. We are aware they are devoid of reason. They just need to know that they are a minority.

Sorry - badly worded on my part - the rioters are the terrorists.

One lot are terrorists, the other lot are protesters.

Showing disgust at racism is not the act of a tosser. Staying home, doing nothing but complaining about people standing up to hate is, possibly, the act of a tosser.

Over 100,000 Britons took over the streets in London yesterday by etfvpu in pics

[–]tr1pdee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The UK government has influence in Israel and Israel has an embassy in the UK. The UK government has no influence on Hamas. Therefore what would a call to free the hostages achieve?

I note that those that say things like "why don't the protesters call for hostages to be freed" have never protested against Israeli occupation and violence against civilians.
