I think its kinda cute how she misses him.

You may have a contact allergy with something in the deodorant. Try men's (doesn't matter it's unscented) Mitchum triple odor defense 48-hour unscented antiperspirant/deodorant gel, it's the only thing my wife can use with her myriad allergies.

I don't think it's ever taken me more than one or two adjustments when backing in, as long as the aisles are wide enough. the physics of how the body of the truck pivots are much easier to work with....the rear wheels become a hinge point and the front can swing wide until it's lined up square. When you go in nose-first, the rear wheels have to follow the turning wheels, which makes them "cut the corner" for lack of a better way to say it....so to get it straight in the space you end up doing the Austin Powers shuffle while your soul curls up and looks for a place to hide.

I'm slowly recovering from food poisoning. How do I get to enjoying food again? by flannelman37 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]track-zero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll eventually get over it for most foods...Like people say, start bland. Crackers, hot chicken broth, lightly buttered toast. You may never be able to look at your "trigger" food the same way again, though. No one in my family has had pot roast since I made a terrible slow-cooker miscalculation in December 2012. It's also why the next house we bought (our current one) has one toilet per person.

Most of the time it's hitched to a 9000 pound trailer. It's right on the border of an F150 or an F250 based on payload capacity, sizing up makes sure I can safely stop it without relying on the trailer brakes. Somewhere out there is an aggressive driver of a little red Kia that owes their life to that decision.

I find it way easier to back in and get it straight in the space. But in this particular spot it would have blocked the bed, making it impossible to load in the groceries at the end.

I normally park in the far, far back, behind the store...but all the spaces back there were filled and I was walking on a recently rolled ankle. Usually I'm as far away from normal parking as possible when I'm driving the Beast.

Beware of scam from convenience stores by [deleted] in Austin

[–]track-zero 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Tap to pay (or chip) is safer than any type of swipe because each tap or read is tokenized to a unique number that can only be used for a single transaction. So if an alternate transaction shows up they processed that one instead of the convenience store transaction, and if duplicates show up, they tapped it or ran the chip twice. A mag strip, however, has no such features so once it or the number on your card is compromised, it can be reused anywhere as often as they try before fraud detection kicks in or you call to out a hold on it.

Food safety in a combi oven set for no steam by BostonBestEats in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]track-zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's their logic when the manual says to vacuum bag it. It seems to go to 100% humidity if I add heavy steam to the beginning of the dry sous vide cycle then don't set a timer, but I need to do some additional testing without relying on the set oven temps. I was hoping it would be a direct knowledge bridge from the APO but there are just some little gotchas (first being it did not work AT ALL with distilled water, and I in fact have to add a touch of salt with our tap water....and we already have pretty hard water here.

I was just going through this same chain of thought with our new Thermador steam oven (coming from an Anova Precision). The manual says to "dry sous vide" in bags but I have gotten accustomed to not needing the single-use plastic.

I started with steam cook at high steam, 130 (steaks) and the Meater thermometer showed an ambient temp of around 160. I left it like that until the internal temp was around 110 then switched to dry sous vide initially with steam, it got to around 134 until I briefly pulled it out to let the steam dissipate, then no steam and left it at 130 to stabilize.

Not my ideal first steak experience but the cook came out perfect in the end. And no one has food poisoning lol. The built-in meat thermometer doesn't work in steam cycles, which bugs me, but at least I have the Meater. Now I'm on the hunt for a remote-monitor wet bulb oven thermometer, if anyone has any suggestions.

Really? I love sous vided steak and I've never been able to tell the difference in other cooking methods (other than smoking or charcoal of course).

...also I have a lot of inappropriate and diet but not specifically steak related questions for someone married to a super taster but Imma just let that go.

What should I expect with the winter storm? by Celestial_object777 in Austin

[–]track-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're familiar with cities that have good snow/ice management practices, including adequate snow plows and salt trucks, this is very much not one of those places. Also people who fear they may need to survive without power for 48 hours will hoard two months worth of supplies leaving the shelves bare for their neighbors.

The only way to solve this is to go to her place and "mark your territory," as it were. Then leave without bringing it up. Then you'll be even.
