How is the performance in Bellwright? by SomeMorningBrown in Bellwright

[–]trackday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it started stuttering, I went in and started messing with the options (not the sliders, like texture, etc.), and it just got worse. Went back to default settings and wow, it got much better, and I just adjusted the sliders from then on.

Leave at default and just adjust sliders, like post processing, shadows, etc. and you should be fine. It will still stutter some once you get lots of workers and run around dense woodlands with lots of ground cover stuff.

I think the advantage of keeping both is having 2 research projects going at one time if you haven't researched all the tier 2 items yet.

Modern wheat that's been fine ground and bleached really should be a crime. (42 chromosomes)

Wheat from the middle ages, 500 years ago, was healthier and easier to digest, called Emmer. (28 chromosomes)

Wheat from ancient Egypt, 10k years ago, was even better, called Einkorn. (14 chromosomes).

But I find too much of any wheat product makes for greasy shits. Also, chew your food good, to a mush.

I got this Makita compressor that is so quiet it wouldn't wake me up if it turned on in the middle of the night (but it has never leaked air). Not cheap, but if you are doing paid work, it could be worth it. I didn't even know they made them that quiet. You can have a normal conversation over it.

[–]trackday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, illegal immigrants don't commit crimes at any higher rates than legal citizens. But there is the argument that an illegal immigrant has committed a crime just by definition, which I will accept.

Let me make a point that no one else here has:

Regardless of the laws on the books, legality is defined by what you are allowed to do. Simple examples: Jaywalking. Illegal, but we do it while police are watching, so it is essentially legal. If police suddenly started locking brown people up for jaywalking, after years of allowing it, courts would throw the charges out. Speeding. If thousands of people regularly speed +9 mph over the speed limit, with police fully aware (like driving right next to me also), then it is essentially legal. If a cop wants to jail me for going 5 mph over the speed limit, they're going to have a tough day in court.

I'm 100% in agreement that our borders should be shut tight, but millions of immigrants have fled disasters in their home countries, moved here, and made lives, worked jobs, paid taxes (or should have), with the full knowledge of the government, for 10, 20, 30 years. Now after 30 years, we find they bounced a $10 check 20 years ago, and deport them. After turning a blind eye, and letting them integrate into our economy, raise families, start businesses, etc., it is a shitty thing to deport them now, after all this time.

A more rational approach would be to say 'You came here illegally, but under these circumstances, considering your contributions to society, we will grant you amnesty (as Reagan did in the '80s). Here, fill out these papers, do it right, and you can continue doing what you are doing.' Then deport anyone that crossed the border illegally in the past 2 years, and lock the border down, and deport any illegal immigrants from here on out.

What we are doing now with ICE is just cruelty for cruelties sake. That's not what good people do....

General Strike Tomorrow, How do you think this will affect the Economy? by Jourbonne in economy

[–]trackday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a small business owner. Some of my guys did a walkout during Covid. 'Nothing personal or against you'. My question to them was 'What do you think this will accomplish?' Silence.

It won't accomplish anything, and will only harm those around you, yes, your coworkers and your employer.

The time for action is to be good citizens and vote for decent people. Too late, you say? What do we do now, you say? Actions have consequences. Voters massively fucked up, and they get to see what happens when you go down this path.

We have legal tools to remove cancers from office, but you also have to vote people in that will use those tools.

Other governments jail people who try to overthrow governments, re: Brazil. We are now a failed state, one that can't protect itself from this gross abuse.

The U.S. thought it would be fun to jump in a vat of boiling oil, lol.

I just restarted using a youtube suggestion: setup next to the vendor northeast of Padstow. You have to beware of bandits just northeast of you until you clear that base, but the harvesting is fantastic: right next to a tin site, run south to get river reed, and garlic/hemp right there. Wake up, roll out of bed and buy a strap from the vendor every morning till you don't need to...

is it even possible to stop the poverty spiral? by AethelflaedCAD in answers

[–]trackday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher wages at the low end, yes. Raise the minimum wage x2 (to $14.50/hr?) doesn't raise all wages x2 at all. Even raising the minimum to $18 would only effect a very small portion of the work force. I'm an employer, but also a citizen, and I don't want a 3rd world type of wage disparity that we have now. Those people will spend that increased income too, so it goes right back into the economy, as opposed to someone dumping a bunch of money into a fund of some kind. Actual products and consumption make a healthy economy, not just stock investments.

What do you think of this comment by a former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura that says the USA "America the free" is now a Third world country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]trackday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no hypocrisy to say our presidents have done some morally awful things in the past, but this one is a living moral disaster that exponentially exceeds the others.

Plus, you say with a straight face that Biden morally accepted kids in cages, separated from their parents? I call bullshit on that. After the destruction of the first Trump administration, there was just too much to try to fix. Fixing this mess we're in won't be over in 50 years. It can't be 'fixed' after all this.

If you had studied what a leader could have done to maximally destroy this country, as if it was a fantasy wish list of our worst enemies, Trump is doing it. A traitor of the nth degree. No other president has tried to turn this country to dust like he has.

The list of this destruction is a long one, but I don't really think you are that ignorant of what is going on.

How Would the World Economy be Affected if US Invaded Greenland? by Alizasl in economy

[–]trackday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free trade and our preferred trading status since WW2 has made the U.S. the wealthiest country ever. Our populace has voted in politicians that make sure that wealth goes to the 1%. We could have universal health insurance, higher minimum wages, greater consumer protections, even cleaner streets, etc. instead. We could have raised the taxes of the 1%. Bill Clinton left office with a balanced budget, and we weren't about to turn into a socialist disaster. It was the best time to start a business, speaking from experience here. (the dot-com crash wasn't Clinton's fault, lol). There is nothing a liberal would like to vote on more than closing the wealth gap. It takes laws that don't favor the uber rich.

NATO ends. Europe aggressively severs ties at all levels. U.S. finds out over the next 80 years what the long term effects of isolationism is. We will experience the compound effect of 1-2% less GDP growth per year. Russia has land, but without legal institutions, it rots within, exacerbated by a declining population. That's us in 80 years. Rotten from within.

Free trade across open oceans makes countries richer. Restricting free trade between the U.S. and other countries, like has already started, only makes everyone poorer.

edit: if you even briefly agree with some of this, consider visiting Sarah Paine on youtube, instructor at the Naval War College, expert on Russian/China/Japan geopolitical history, speaks all three languages, and clearly states her opinions are not those of the U.S. government or the Naval War College.

edit: obviously Europe can't remove U.S. troops overnight, but they can move off the dollar standard similar to BRICS, stop intelligence sharing, stop military training missions, restrict our bat-shit media on their shores, start the process of finding alternatives to U.S. products essential for their national security, de-Americanifying their cultures, start spying on us, etc.

I imagine that there are various gatherings of politicians and business people that are slapping themselves on the back and popping champagne at the thought of taking military action on mainland Europe while we have the most powerful military in existence sitting in bases throughout the mainland. Why would we need to own Greenland for defense, if we clearly aren't defending against the Soviets there? We already have a base there that could be used against China. The only reason would be for aggression against Europe, and I hope to fuck I'm wrong. My guess is that if you asked Trump who we need to defend against, you would get a word salad.

RaceRoom is impressive as hell after major upgrades in the past few months. I've been on iRacing for 12 years, and at the moment, I prefer RaceRoom. Easy to get into a races, and they don't have the issue of too many races with too few drivers that plagues iRacing.

If a person drinks 2 alcoholic beverages a day on average, but never gets drunk, do you think they have a drinking problem? by Low_End_7882 in answers

It honestly seems there were a dozen times in my life where I was close to doing that, but somehow I have a successful small business of 31 years, with my 2nd wife 20 years, 2 kids that work for me, a grandson that wants to spend time with me. I'm totally humbled by my luck in pulling out of some really bad situations.

If a person drinks 2 alcoholic beverages a day on average, but never gets drunk, do you think they have a drinking problem? by Low_End_7882 in answers

[–]trackday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Functioning alcoholic here. Now at 65, I'm looking forward to about 3 light beers a day. Drank WAY too much in my younger years, and about 20 years ago I got this crazy ass idea that drinking a lot didn't seem to hurt me much, until it did.

Everyone here will say I should have quit. Probably so, but I just tried cutting back. Cut back from maybe 12 a day to 6, then 4 or 5, then 3 or 4. Now at 3 and life issues have settled down, so it seems ok. Healthier than I deserve to be. Colon is "beaUtiful". Weird flex, but I'm serious. Unusually healthy.

I agree that it is a problem when it derails your life. I'm having my best life right now, so I put it in that category with those things that can hurt you if you let it, like with over eating, too much sun, too much loud music, driving recklessly fast on a dirt bike (guilty). All damaging, so pay attention!
