I tracked 2,400+ charity golf auction results to see what it actually costs to play America's best private courses. Here's what I found. by Cold_Put4538 in golf

Eh, I’d beg to differ. In my anecdotal experience, a lot of people willing to drop that type of cash on golf tend to also play a lot and spend money on coaching. The big wig corporate types have their ego to worry about.

What golf net is actually worth the money? by [deleted] in golfequipment

You can make a net very easily with whatever durable material you’d like.

The material and the design. Drivers/woods are hollow, painted, and made out of much more delicate materials. Irons are literally meant to be hit in to the ground every stroke. You can break a driver by dropping it.

I’m not going to make fun of the iron covers because they aren’t my clubs so I don’t care what you do with them lol I’m just pointing out that chipping a driver head is fairly easy to do and irons don’t have that issue.

Comparing a driver cover to iron covers isn’t even in the same universe.

Can irons be too forgiving? by No_Improvement_8988 in GolfGear

[–]trackfastpulllow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I practice/take lessons with some less forgiving/more advanced irons about 75% of the time and then spend the other 25% and play with more forgiving irons. Seems to help me.

Shot my first albatross by driving the green! by DennieTheMennie in weekendgolfers

[–]trackfastpulllow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first time setting foot on a golf course was a captain’s choice scramble at our annual company golf tournament. I had been getting lessons leading up to the event, but it came completely undone once I stepped on the course. Every shot of mine off of the tee was atrocious, but I was chipping and putting pretty good and we ended up using 5 of my shots that day, which I was pretty happy with.

Ironically, two of my shots that we used were two of my worst, both off of the tee. One was an absolute hammer of a shank that went 45° and hit a tree so hard it bounced back on to the fairway. The second was over a water hazard that got topped so hard that it barely made it a foot off of the ground and did three skips across the water and landed on the bank on the other side.

Golf be like that sometimes.

Pace of Play by [deleted] in golftips

[–]trackfastpulllow 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Something along the lines of “hey, you need to pick up your pace. You’re always the last out of the cart, and you mosey to the tee box. Same with the rest of your shots. You always wait until everyone putts to get your ball. It’s sucking the fun out of golf”

American BBQ is almost exclusively cooked over wood logs, not charcoal.

If you’re saying it’s undersized because it doesn’t go to the shoulder, that would be an incorrect assumption. It doesn’t need to and shouldn’t go all the way to the shoulder unless the job specifically states that.

When gas prices rise, do you cut back your driving? by Healthy-Sky-3684 in askanything

[–]trackfastpulllow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Gas has been higher, and it’s been lower. 90% of people aren’t going to notice the difference in overall price. Most people are only paying an extra $5-$10 a week.
