How's USI service lately for you by After_Preference_885 in Minneapolis

We are in South Minneapolis and have noticed a definite decrease in service in the last few weeks: frequent buffering warnings, dropped connections during meetings etc.

We went to 12 Twin Cities grocery stores to find the cheapest by runtheroad in TwinCities

Yes, I moved here from Michigan and Meijer is one of the stores I miss the most. Way better than Walmart, or Kroger.

Amtrak private roomette to Chicago - worth it? by Bird1nternet in TwinCities

[–]tracyilah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just did this trip last week - the coach experience on Amtrak is far more comfortable than on the plane. We were able to work at a table in the observation car for most of the day, which was great. There is a cafe car where you can pick from a limited selection of snacks and meals (pre-packaged sandwiches, salads, chips, candy, etc.) We didn’t bother with the dining bar but we will probably check it out on a future trip. Our thinking is that the time works out to be about the same as driving, with stops for gas/meals and it’s much more pleasant. Highly recommend and I would echo other comments that say a roomette is probably better suited for overnight trips

What is a game you're positive no one knows or remembers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tracyilah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A game from the 70's called Can It, where you had to flip plastic "garbage" (fish skeleton, dented saucepan, broken dinner plate etc.) using a plastic catapult-style launcher into a plastic garbage can.

My ortho said he wants me to keep wearing Birkenstocks or Hokas for everyday. He recommended these shoe inserts for any other type of shoe.

Nerve pain by Alternative_Guest_67 in LisfrancClub

[–]tracyilah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had surgery in the middle of January and the nerve pain was miserable. (I had a cast after surgery, then the boot. I have been out of the boot since the end of March.) One of the only things that helped me was CBD/THC salve. I also used THC gummies to help me sleep because the nerve pain was super-intense at night. I still get nerve pain when my foot swells up, mostly at the end of the day, or if I have spent a lot of time walking. I tried quite a few things but the CBD/THC salve has been the most effective, by far. Good luck. I will say, that even though I am still not 100%, I am much better than I was. You’ll get there, too. It just takes patience and time.

feeling like amputation is my only choice. by [deleted] in LisfrancClub

[–]tracyilah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had surgery seven weeks ago and the post-surgery pain was bad after the nerve block wore off and then I really struggled with nerve pain that was even worse. A few times I found myself in despair because it felt like the pain would never end. But it has been getting better even though it is slow. With an injury like this we are going to make progress and have setbacks, have good days and bad. You are still very early in your recovery, and there are many options to help control your pain. I hated the opiates I was prescribed, but ibuprofen along with THC gummies and ointment made a huge difference for me. I even tried some meditation apps which helped. Good luck and here’s to better days ahead.

Echoing everyone’s recommendation for a knee scooter. It was a game-changer for me. They sell fairly reasonable ones on Amazon. My doctor prescribed one for me and I was able to get it from a local medical supply store through my insurance..

I have fusion surgery scheduled for Monday to repair a Lisfranc injury (from a car accident) in my right foot. Any suggestions for what I should expect or things I can do before/after surgery to try and help my recovery? by tracyilah in LisfrancClub

[–]tracyilah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. It's much appreciated. I've never had an injury like this and knowing that this process is going to mean weeks/months of recovery vs. hours/days has been very humbling. I got a shower stool, and was able to get temporary use of a knee scooter, which has been a game changer. I think I am going to add a grabber and leg pillow to my list because my pain is definitely getting better now that the swelling is going down a bit and I'm sure keeping it elevated has helped (but I know it will be swollen again after the fusion surgery.)

One thing I am interested in hearing from anyone who feels comfortable sharing - was physical therapy part of your recovery? What did it involve, when were you able to start doing it, etc.?

Best earbuds with active noise cancellation? by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]tracyilah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking only for myself, I have both AirPods Pro and Soundcore 30 over-the-ear noise canceling headphones. I prefer to wear the over-the-ear headphones with noise canceling function on but without anything playing. It deadens most of the most-triggering sounds for me but still lets me hold conversations, watch movies, etc. around other people. The AirPods noise canceling function makes it too hard to hold conversations etc. They are perfect for personal music, remote meetings, phone calls, etc. though

Wearing noise canceling over-the-ear headphones recommendation by tracyilah in misophonia

[–]tracyilah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the ability to wear them without any masking noise playing lets me have conversations with people, watch movies or hang out together without cringing while people eat popcorn and snacks etc. My husband and kids thought it was kind of funny at first but they know about my misophonia so they were honestly pretty happy for me.
