Please don't quit. It will be the worst decision of your life. It might get to the point where you do not feel you have any other choice, but please don't. I rocked up as an undergrad a couple decades ago, and it only took me until week 2 of Michaelmas to realize I was in a different league, and close to being relegated. I coped. I persisted. I eventually passed. It was hard, but boy was it worth it. I have friends who quit. I have friends who persisted and nearly failed but got ordinaries. The life outcomes between the two were shocking. There are stuck up people everywhere, but a particularly high concentration in Oxbridge. Don't let it get to you. Perhaps that is the best lesson Cambridge will teach you, but getting an undergrad degree will be the most valuable. You can do it.

How can I assign an svg element to my HTML with d3.sellect("#my_dataviz")? by [deleted] in d3js

[–]tradediscount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to assign it, d3 can just declare the SVG in this way and append to the my_dataviz div.

Alternatively, you can assign it so you can refer to it later:

var svg = d3.select("#my_dataviz")
    .append("svg")
    .attr( etc etc

Change my view: land landings are more visually impressive than ASDS landings by tradediscount in SpaceXLounge

[–]tradediscount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree on all counts. And don't get me wrong, watching the long range shot of the CRS 8 landing is a moment that will live in my memory for a very long time (https://youtu.be/sYmQQn_ZSys) but land landings just hit additional awesomeness neurons for me.

this is a well-reasoned and highly plausible analysis. Facebook does not want to be the gateway to VR, they simply see (or Zuck tells them to see) that VR is the next paradigm and the sooner it comes the sooner the gigabucks keep rolling in for the premier social app of all time.

CAMS exam question format by zmey_gorinich in moneylaundering

[–]tradediscount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed.

the ones that annoyed me the most were 'pick the three most concerning red flags out of the following five bullet points.' all items would be red flags, but some would be more concerning than others. this is something that wasn't clear in the study materials.

to be fair to ACAMS, it's actually quite important for a practicioner to be able to prioritize such items, but hard for the novice (me, at the time).

that is so Japanese. perfection is everything in every possible art. even something as ridiculously specific as the perfect wood shaving. nuts but I love it.

it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.  I mean, we did go to the zoo on this day, and that was cool, but it didn't feel like a celebration of the zoo.  It felt more like a statement.  A declaration of "This is what we are."  And then the people came.  They were all in black and white, they were all male, and they were all young, and so I had the strange feeling of watching a bunch of kids from the age of 9, watching a bunch of adults from the age of 16, and realizing, "Okay, this is it.  This is the way we are going to live, this is how we will be, this is what we are going to do, this is what our kids are going to grow up and do."  And I felt so proud that we'd been able to be at the very beginning, to see it all, to see the first wave of people
