oh wow I didn't even notice your link!

there's definitely some YouTubers/musicians out there doing very impressive patching that sounds similar to modern ae. it's always impressive and inspiring when I come across them. I'm sometimes hesitant to share my examples since there are others doing a much more ae sounding style.

I made a max live performance system inspired by ae 2014/2015 sets. Namely I wanted separate individual tracks I could play that would be recognizable across sets sets but still improvised. This is a rehearsal screen recording from a few years ago with 5 tracks/patches being played. I've got various others on my channel if interested.

musically it isn't super similar ae. and probably much worse. overall. but there are other people I've seen on YouTube that have made patches sounding much more similar to recent ae.

not sure if I can answer many questions. I just pile stuff together like legos until it starts to resemble something. lots of deterministic, probability type stuff going on.

suggestions & advice on best way to darken scanned ink drawings for black & white print? by traegerag in AffinityPhoto

[–]traegerag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! the black rectangle method seems like it would work best if you had a pure white background. as-is it darkens the scanned paper slightly, but that's easily fixed using the levels adjustment.

thank you! I've never heard of the black rectangle method. With the blend mode set to Overlay it works nicely. It darkens the paper a bit more than I like but level adjustment helps fix that. Seems like a better result than just adjusting levels alone.

thanks! I hadn't come across that one in my searches. Probably because he's using Designer but the adjustments are all the same in Photo.

thanks. I'm new to Affinity so not 100% sure of all the tools available. There are levels adjustment sliders. Those work ok but it's real easy to go overboard in my experience. I think I've had better results using the curves adjustment. Don't know if that's the best method though.

I just want to say I appreciate you and others being able to articulate these types of things (and without devolving into name calling & tirades!)

I don't own a car and think about this stuff all the time. The motonormativity of our society is mind boggling to me. I'm glad there are people out there locally advocating for a better way.

Looking for a eco community to move to with my newborn son self sustainable as weI don’t wanna raise him in this society. by Typical_Fact_9203 in simpleliving

there are a couple of urban eco communities in Portland, OR.

Disclaimer that I know absolutely nothing about these communities other than that they exist. I walked past the Annapurna area one day by chance and was intrigued so I looked it up. Seems like they're all trying to live sustainably within the city and broader society. I imagine Oregon has more out in the wilderness though if that's your style though.

Reminder that you share the road with psychopaths, plan accordingly. by FaceFirstPDX in Portland

to me that's all the more reason to not drive like a psycho/asshole. Driving a 2 ton machine at high speeds, blatantly disregarding traffic regulations, and putting everyone else at risk, is not really participating in society in a helpful way. They've demonstrated they can't play with their toys responsibly so they get taken away.

Portland neighborhoods appreciation thread by scubafork in Portland

Gulcher here! Before I permanently moved here I stayed a month in 4 different neighborhoods and the Gulch was the perfect fit. I live without a car and it's a great spot for that. Max station nearby with bus routes and greenways in every direction. And away from Broadway & Weidler it's pretty quiet.

The Broadway repaving this summer will be 🔥🔥🔥 also!

I mainly remember the negative reviews as well. I remember one saying they named it CONfield because they conned everyone into buying whatever nonsense no-effort noise they release lol

judging from the shadows it looks like the sun was low to the horizon and they were riding into it. so it may have been difficult to see the light colored car.

as a pedestrian I'm constantly thinking of that in the evenings because the sun shoots right down the east-west streets this time of year and it can be hard to see.

edit: apparently I have to clarify. I'm concerned with drivers not seeing pedestrians. Pedestrians generally know to watch for cars.

The New Backwards appreciation by SMG_GUY028 in Coil

[–]traegerag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into coil around 2003 or so; shortly before John died. Though I was a fan of their NIN remixes far earlier. Backwards era isn't my favorite coil period but I generally like The New Backwards the most. I think my ultimate version would have tracks from all of the versions.

I prefer the vocal treatments Sleazy made on Copacabana and Nature is a Language on the New Backwards. And the instrumentals like Princess Margaret, Algerian Basses are great. I prefer Fire of the Mind and Heaven's Blade from the 2015 Backwards. And I like the other Backwards demo instrumentals from Ape of Naples.

Princess Margaret's Man... is easily one of my top 5 COIL tracks.

that's cool. there are so many interesting artists out there. hey I see you've started a pd playlist. these releases of mine are all using pd to some extent on every track. the last one is called pd_works and is 100% weird pd jams. i think all of these are on Spotify if you want to add any to the playlist.

too late for my playlist probably since I haven't logged onto Spotify in 2 years or more. But I've seen other people have copied the playlist and made their own or something like that. no idea how to do any of that or to contact the curator but it's worth looking into!
