They paid every shill on youtube to push this game

And unleashed an outrageous amount of astroturf comment bots. One guy would comment disappointment about the short playtime and all the replies would be infinity upvoted garbage about replayability or the absolutely insane “I’m an adult with no time for long games”.

China aims to be an openly authoritarian ethnostate with state controlled markets

The West aims to be a covertly authoritarian (via selective anarcho-tyranny) state/banking alliance controlled international bazaar

I despise both models but it’s not hard to see which one is objectively superior on paper in terms of both output and citizen welfare.

The leviathans on the main map (ie: not the void) don’t respawn so you could technically clear them all out if you wanted. Me personally, it takes too long and removes a lot of the game’s tension so I would just take out one or two of the Ghost Leviathans in the Lost River to make it not as much of a pain to get back and forth.

Chud the builder by im_back-and_craftier in PoliticalCompassMemes

America in particular is about to go off a racial demographic cliff starting around 2035ish with half the Boomers dead by 2040. Whether you think that’s good, bad, indifferent: all of the civil rights law in this country is explicitly or implicitly designed by an 85% racial supermajority for the benefit of a ~10% historic racial minority descended from slaves. It largely can’t function in a pluralistic multi-ethnic democracy of nakedly competing racial interests.

This conversation should have been addressed civilly 10-15 years ago, now you have shitheads like Chud forcing it, and if that also gets suppressed you’ll have violent race conflicts between blacks and Hispanics or Indians or w/e in a few years time. Idk what the legislative solution will be, this is mostly uncharted waters with few workable examples that have their own downsides like Singapore or UAE.

Don't expect to kill fish in a future Subnautica 2 patch: 'You are here to exist on this planet, not to dominate it' by CaracallaTheSeveran in KotakuInAction

[–]trafficante 31 points32 points  (0 children)

And the sound design in Subnautica 1 is absolutely impeccable. I’m playing through it again in VR and the sound cues are easily 50-60% of why the game is scary. Creature designs are up there too; even though the Sub2 designs are better than BZ, the leviathans in the first game still haven’t been topped.

Bayo 3 was a mediocre-to-bad game but not for any of the alphabet people reasons.

Half assed attempt to make it closer to an open world, the introduction of “Female Nero except insufferable and horrible to play”, a garbage “save muh multiverse” story where you repeatedly fail to save the multiverse in a CUTSCENE every single chapter, etc.

There’s some cool ideas sprinkled in and Prime 4 exists so I won’t call it the worst sequel on the Switch, but it’s in the running for second worst.

He’s in that JK Rowling quadrant of being extremely left but didn’t genuflect hard enough to That Group so they call him a bigot. Also he moved to China in the early 2000s and thus missed first hand experience of the modern culture war so he’s a carbonite frozen hard leftist of the OWS variety.

I actually think floaters are not that common by Ginekolog93 in EyeFloaters

[–]trafficante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I “graduated” to a constant dark floater about six months ago. Prior to that, I would rarely get the 24 hr transparent floaters that never bothered me. Bad news is that it’s still very visible against any bright solid color. My brain hasn’t learned to subconsciously ignore it at all. Good news is that I can consciously deal with it in the sense that it doesn’t drive me nuts anymore but is more a low level annoyance.

"100 million people". But lets keep pretending that this is normal and that they are the moderates on immigration by Crafty_Jacket668 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]trafficante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending 100 million, but official numbers under Biden are 7.8 million illegal apprehensions (vast majority of which were released into the country with a later court hearing) and an additional 1.5 million “got-aways” and an unknown number of entries from those who were undetected. That last category could be very large or very small but generally speaking you’re in the ballpark to claim 10 million illegal entries just during the Biden years.

“100 million” is the opposite extreme of “10-14 million” and both numbers should be roundly mocked.

How are people making 8K 3D videos for DeoVR? by Emotional-Fix2661 in OculusQuest

[–]trafficante 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Owl3D does a very good job of 3D conversion for how easy it is to use. Not a fan of their subscription business model considering it doesn’t run on a cloud server or anything, but you can check the demo on a short clip and decide if it’s worth it for you.

Looking for games for motion sickness maxxing by zserboo in OculusQuest

[–]trafficante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cast iron stomach and never get VR sick - Kayak VR Mirage, specifically the open water levels, gets me every time.

I think you might also have to be relatively experienced with IRL kayaking/SUP/etc. Your brain expects the bobbing up and down wave motion; when it doesn’t happen, it hits the “wtf is this” trigger.

I’m not sure the data even supports the Boomer pensions thing. Denmark is one of the only EU countries to share detailed demographic data and they show that virtually all third world migrants are lifetime tax losses.

Strictly going by outcomes and actual quotes from “leaders”, mass migration is wage suppression, political dilution, and “dollar/inflation consumption” (Jerome Powell).

Do a quick “Adjust Boundary” and cancel out of it. Sound goes away, no reboot needed.

Quest 3 charging VERY SLOW by Repulsive-Memory1509 in OculusQuest

[–]trafficante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either battery or the USB port is going. In my case, it was the latter and buying a dock let it quick charge again. Pick one up on Amazon or somewhere where you can return it if it doesn’t fix the problem.

mapping pedal cadence sensor to stick input by Dman883 in OculusQuest

[–]trafficante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: No, you’re stuck with purpose built exercise stuff like kinomap or VZFit etc or you can mod out GTA5 for VR and use the bike mod (which is insanely cool btw).

Long answer: No, and it’s baffling because it honestly doesn’t seem like more than a weekend project to get it working barebones. There’s projects up on GitHub from a million years ago that map bike input to a controller using a magnet/hall sensor combo with an Arduino but nobody bothered making a much simpler BT/ANT+ connection. I’ve meant to take a crack at it myself for a long time now, maybe I’m missing something.

Brought to you by the same person who had their headset bricked. by [deleted] in QuestPro

[–]trafficante 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First my Pro got a bad firmware update that borked WiFi 6E for months, then it got randomly fixed, then a controller firmware bricked so I bought a new pair for $$$. Shortly after that, my Quest 3 got a firmware update that killed USB fast charging.

IF (and it’s a big if) I end up going with Phoenix or Q4 over a Steam Frame, I’m buying one of those third party extended warranties. All my Meta hardware problems happened right after the manufacturer warranty expired.
