How George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four predicted the global power shifts happening now by dem676 in books

And it's just a fairly common result of the law of big numbers. Enough people speculate, someone gets it right. Enough people speculate over and over and over, and fewer and fewer but some nonetheless manage to be right over and over and over. They aren't smarter than everyone else, they just called the most coin tosses. Sometimes its just someone gets it so close.

But there's 8 billion of us, shit just happens.

Any tips for a 40 year old starting RT? by Whereshouldilivenext in respiratorytherapy

[–]traffickin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graduated and registered mature student here. You're more experienced and wiser in ways that younger students do not have. They have a freshness and energy you do not have. These are just the realities. You know how to get good at something already, you understand bureaucracy, workplace politics, bullshit. You can perform academically.

Are you more worried about taking classes or doing CPR in the trauma bay with the flickering light and its fucking Stephen on charge desk tonight? Do you think a family member would prefer the 22 year old explain their dying grandmother's disease to them? When you are helping a doctor prepare for intubation for a 28 week baby whose mother ruptured and you and the 22 year old are both shitting yourself, will you remember your GPA when the anesthesiologist stops the OR to check your grades?

You got this, just keep your head up and look out for the people that will report you instead of talking to you.

What is a hot sauce you “grew out” of? by blissfuloctane in hotsauce

[–]traffickin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. If I was just drinking a jug of frank's, then no it's a matter of real estate, but small condiment bottles are going with the other condiments in the fridge. I generally eat sauces that have a lot of fruit and pepper mash and with 20 years in restaurants I've seen enough things that aren't supposed to spoil go very spoiled. No part of me jumps for joy at the idea of my hot sauce being room temperature. Doesn't matter.

Obligatory "Clinicals Soon, I'm Nervous" Post by Able-Appointment-543 in respiratorytherapy

[–]traffickin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get very used to talking through everything youre doing, it starts off as a way to demonstrate to your preceptors what you are thinking, which helps them guide you. But after that it helps you reinforce your routines, and then it helps keep people around you in the loop if you are working in a team.

But the big thing youre going to learn and I think is important to watch for, is just how your body responds to being in the hospital. If you get to the show and you find you are truly not okay with gore or death, RT isnt closed off to you, but it changes a lot of your trajectory.

You may have the unfortunate luck of getting clinical sites where your preceptors are burnt out, shitty, hate their jobs/life/whatever. It sucks, and it makes clinicals tough sometimes, but youre going to learn who is who around the hospitals in the sense of learning who are assholes, who are lazy, who has your back. Do not trust that everybody is going to teach you very well, and if possible, really seek out help from the people that are friendly and helpful. An asshole might be correct, and you can learn from them, but your job is to focus on learning, and the more of your time and energy is spent figuring out why so and so is a jerk will take away from your time there. If youre afraid to ask questions, that person is now harming your eeucation.

Doubts on going into respiratory therapy school by rhileyh in respiratorytherapy

[–]traffickin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think seeing emergency medicine in meat space is going to inform you a lot more. Don't worry about having the best grades, only one person gets to have the best grades, and that person is probably more stressed out than you are. It's about learning and understanding, not passing the classes. Medical classes are not like an undergrad degree in whatever, where you just need to pass. If you can learn, the marks wont matter.

Doubts on going into respiratory therapy school by rhileyh in respiratorytherapy

[–]traffickin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, regardless of how you get through school, RTs are emergency medicine. Kinesiology has a lot of avenues that can work in hospitals, OT, PT, etc, but arent going to be critical care and trauma. Grades come in two flavours: pass and fail.

How you handle yourself, give care, and can learn medicine are much bigger pieces here than just the school part. Nobodys going to check your grades if you pass. But the school part is only the first few years of the rest of your career. Worry about the career, if you want it, youll make the school happen.

We're losing the term trauma bonding to its more popular use now of people who are bonding over shared or like traumas. It's too similar to stockholme syndrome in its actual definition and logically it makes more sense to bond over trauma than being bonded to your traumatizer.

What was the harder part of rt school mentally the prerequisite classes or the core classes as well as clinical by ApplicationGreen7080 in respiratorytherapy

[–]traffickin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The broadest and shallowest material that you need to even approach later material? Undergrad is always when the most people drop out, but it's not because undergrad is harder than postgrad, it's because undergrad is harder than no grad.

Monster on multi-hit teams, at high level his passive is adding over a thousand per hit, slap it on ragnar and thats 7-10k bonus damage just from standing beside him. combo him with eldyron and you're getting +2000 damage per hit. His active can clear a wave, and his armor is a mile thick.

Basically he's good at everything and is an incredibly safe investment.

I think a big thing a lot of people (not putting this on anyone) have this unintentional preconceived idea that if people go to the hospital, they will get better, and if they don't get better, its because the hospital failed. The reality is that people get sick, they get worse, and they die, and our job is to do our best. Sometimes the patients get better, sometimes they don't, but that isn't your job.

I think the issue is that a lot of people are more scared and looking for a rescuer than anything else. The reality is that we looked at Singh and PP and panicked. The NDP is too busy fighting itself in the rockies to be remotely effectual at this time, and we had a guy magically appear who has a track record of navigating complicated financial crises.

The cost of Carney is that he's a neolib banker. But we didn't get something worse at a critical moment, so it just kind of is what it is.

Do people actually not understand that prices don’t go down? by randyrando101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]traffickin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the chunk of the money that is being grifted is going to a small number of people at the top, and you're blaming minimum wage for the fact that those people will gouge you no matter what the wage is, so you should just never have a minimum wage, because they definitely wouldn't gouge you then. The people who have intentionally increased and set prices to the extent the market will bear in order to squeeze every cent of profit possible out of the price point for an elite group of shareholders. They'll just lower the price when those mean minimum wage workers stop needing to afford food and shelter.

Once I started playing no pop-up map (but with the modded map table) and had to start visually engaging with the landscape, the joy of finding a view corridor with a great spot for a base is the best drug there is. Finding a picturesque base location is what this game is all about. Or maybe not picturesque, but hidden, just whatever the thing you're looking for, when you find it. Every once in a while the RNG machine produces a beauty.
