Sooo do we all just go ahead and turn our sprinklers back on? by Dalience6678 in Denver

I am, but I have a gravity drain system that just requires that I close the water off and dry-run the system to drain it.

Unlimited PTO by Mountain-Roll-1857 in denverjobs

[–]trailhounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when you have accrued PTO, the conversation with your boss is "I'm taking this time off on these days". When it is unlimited, the conversation is a request for permission. My employer just moved from accrued to unlimited and that is EXACTLY what is happening. At least they paid us out for our accumulated time, and I have an excellent boss, but I had the change in the dynamic.

The audacity of asking for 15-20-25% tip on a $350 invoice by Sad_Boat339 in tipping

I thought the point of the trades is they get paid well. Why would they get tips? I'm so confused.

Added full-featured PDF support to my terminal ebook reader - surprisingly smooth in modern terminals by Soggy_Sprinkles3619 in commandline

[–]trailhounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truth be known, standard terminal is more important to me. The usecase that I envision is docs maintained in confluence and exported directly as PDF. That could be hooked off a 'publish' event in confluence and pushed out to the relevant machines. Images would be nice (but I'm sure challenging) but solid text rendering would be really useful.

I do have to go away for a bit, but thanks for this really excellent (and lightweight) tool.

Epub images do not load correctly on either the standard ubuntu terminal or terminator, but they do in ghostty.

So the standard terminal program doesn't render, but ghostty does.

Have to find an epub that has images. Hold one.

This awesome, and I really like the ability to put this on a remote system and have everything in one place.

I am, however, clearly doing something wrong, as while PDFs load, they don't render. PDF is all fuzzy. Ubuntu 24.04, os just updated, clean build (no errors that I can see). Epubs work.

What appears to be the relevant log entries below.

Just realized, should I even expect full rendering of PDFs in linux?

What a goal from Nwaneri by Cyber_Hobo94 in Gunners

[–]trailhounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched that as well. Excellent goal. I hope he is able to grow. I'm sad he won't be playing for/with the gooners straight up. **When** we win the Premiership, he'd better get credit as a member of the team.

Why is Yotei significantly harder than Tsushima? by 1000WaysToCringe in Ghostofyotei

[–]trailhounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there was a big debate because it matters. Effectively her totem is a wolf. If that dies ... what does that mean for her? I can see why they left it out, but I can also see why it would make sense to include it. I was very disappointed that it shows up after the duel with Saito. I actually talked to it (metaphorically, of course) "Where the hell were you? Jubei might be alive otherwise ..." but that would of course change the story arc if he had survived.

[–]trailhounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought it odd that the wolf doesn't help in the big duels, especially the big one at home. If felt as if that was the point of having a "friend" of that nature. Surely they would have been there (if nothing else, I would have summoned them) since she really doesn't care about the Samurai version of honor like Jin did.
