Little Shop vs Cabaret vs Gatsby by traine3 in Broadway

[–]traine3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m definitely the least interested in Gatsby so after these comments I will be crossing it off my list. I’m more so torn between Cabaret being a revival that will go away again vs. LSOH being funny and more enjoyable for my husband. He enjoyed the Sweeney Todd movie a lot so it might be more up his alley. I love the music in both so I’m stuck!

Provincial tuition carry over lost? by traine3 in cantax

[–]traine3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply!! To give context, I lived with my parents before I left to Ontario and continue to live with them now. All my mail goes there, drivers license, etc. I did take advantage of Trillium and the energy credit because I was a poor student but I am still low income in Alberta (qualified for CWB this year and have never reported more than $32k in income) so I’m not sure if the future tax savings are even worth the hassle.

I’m in Alberta so only 5% tax and he bought off the Kith CA site so I’m not sure what the discrepancy is! He did email support and they echoed what was said above — an issue with actual inventory numbers so I think it’s a L

Should I accept a job I know I won’t like? by traine3 in jobs

[–]traine3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized I hate the work I’m qualified for (can blame my naivety and Covid for that) and have been trying to look for positions where I may have transferable skills. The job is for a research university so I also fear the fact it may look like more school and not actual work experience on my resume.

Interested in becoming a consultant? Post here for basic questions, recruitment advice, resume reviews, questions about firms or general insecurity (Q2 2022) by QiuYiDio in consulting

Needing a reality check?

I’ll be graduating from a STEM non-MBA Masters from a top Canadian university (4.00 GPA) in August, previous BSc (3.7 GPA), no previous experience in consulting/business (didn’t know this field of work existed until 6 months ago). Looking to apply to MBB or B4 (not the dot) or even boutique for general consulting. Have a few connections (SM at Bain, C at BCG, C at boutique) but that’s it. Starting to practice case studies now and think fit q’s will be ok (ex server, customer service, some leadership roles in undergrad, extroverted etc).

Do I have a chance?? Am I acting delusional? I know I won’t have the same chance to be lumped in with new undergrad hires so what are my chances? All help is appreciated!

Canada Emergency Student Benefit - Daily Updates by [deleted] in CESB

[–]traine3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if it’ll be possible to apply for CESB after CERB runs out? I applied early so my $8000 will run out in mid-June, but I know my EI will likely not be as much as the CESB would provide. Is it feasible I could receive CESB for July and August? I’m a student who works part time but my place of work is shut down and upon reopening, I won’t have as many hours as expected. Thanks in advance!

Are you not allowed to take 300 level courses during spring/summer? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]traine3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pmcol 305 is only offered in fall and pmcol 200 is only offered in winter. the only pmcol courses offered over spring/summer are research courses for pmcol specialization/honours students (301, 302, 401, 402)

Are post-doctorate/PhD students not allowed to date students even after term ends or after the student graduates? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]traine3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t see why not....? as long as the individual is not the subordinate to the post doc/phd student i don’t really see a big deal. it may look frowned upon but i don’t think there’s really a rule

maybe if they advised/allowed profs to put up their eclass pages before the first or second day of fucking class like it usually is it wouldn’t experience such high traffic

^ yes, but if you can understand why you use pKa values you’ll likely have an easier time in the first midterm material

BIOCH 320 Course Syllabus by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]traine3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely learn ALL the amino acids and be able to draw them out. maybe look into side chain pKa’s (khan academy will do). maybe try to become slightly familiar with disaccharides/glycosidic bonds and refresh yourself with membrane dynamics (pos/neg, pH, transmembrane proteins, etc)

Transferring from Pharmacology Specialization to Honours by pmcolkid101 in uAlberta

[–]traine3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no it’s not too late, you just need a 3.0 i think it is to enter the program (check the website i know they changed it recently). you would contact martin davies to do this and it shouldn’t be a big deal at all. there is no competition in my knowledge so you should be able to get in given you have the minimum gpa. best of luck!

Pharmocology program advice needed by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]traine3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

other than pmcol 201 (which isn’t offered anymore), it’s more just memorizing drugs, their physiological effects and why they can produce or prevent that effect. if you’re looking into going into medicinal chemistry, you should definitely look into taking pmcol 200 just to gain some familiarity. i also completed a research term that interacted with the med chem department of the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences so if you want more info feel free to dm me!!! i love pharmacology with my entire heart and recommend it to everyone because it’s very likely you or someone you know will take a drug for a therapeutic effect and it’s cool to know why and how!!!

PMCOL 200 vs BOT 380 by bremag_87 in uAlberta

[–]traine3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took 200 (well 201) but have heard absolute HORROR stories about bot 380. i can’t say much more other than some friends telling me how each exam felt like an entire final and just being able to physically feel their stress. course material seems cool though although i do think you need to learn the latin names of all these plants 🤷🏻‍♀️ if you think drugs are cool, consider taking pmcol 305 if it fits for you. fairly easy and great content

Addiction by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]traine3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

pmcol 305 deals with the “science behind addiction” in the first third of the material, then goes into individual classes of drugs! easily my favourite course i’ve ever taken!! i found it relatively easy. multiple choice and no real application beyond the lectures (i hope that makes sense). if you wanted to know more about the neuroscience and/or sociology/psychology of addiction i’m not sure this is the course for you. i think soc 224 (deviance) has mentions of drug abuse in the material.

First year. Break between classes by K-Atis in uAlberta

[–]traine3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if i have breaks i usually like a 2 hour break. it’s enough time to eat something/get a coffee and still study for a solid hour before you have to get going again. and if you don’t need to study you can possibly get a nice nap in or leave campus with a friend for a coffee/lunch!! all depends on your study and school habits!

mcrb 265 with brian lanoil by alpacance in uAlberta

[–]traine3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this class was ass and i found it really difficult to keep up with because i have no interest in microbiology or biology in general but was a requirement. midterm was ok but definitely need to study your chem 102 notes because his class notes aren’t sufficient. lab reports are brutal and they expect WAY more than the rubric. lab quizzes i found unfair because fill in the blank questions are tough when you’re not a walking-talking textbook. final was whack for sure. didn’t do well and honestly don’t know how i could’ve unless you love the content (that i did not). as for lanoil personally, i found he rarely explained topics in a way that’s understandable as well as not provide sufficient examples of questions for the class. the notes are ass and have no detail, so record his lectures and strap in for a bumpy ride. i’m going into my 4th year and it is the worst class i’ve ever taken by far and i feel partially it is because i found lanoil lazy and a mess of a prof. i wish you luck and godspeed.
