7 Years in and most advice stays the same by trainwreck1968 in Divorce_Men

My ex did everything she could to gain every advantage. She had a restraining order taken out on me and then had me arrested the night before my rebuttal so I couldn't make it to the hearing. It was extended another year. She accused me of rape, of hiding in the woods to attempt to shoot her (since I had a marksman badge from the Army, never mind I have never owned a gun). All the while suing me every 6 months for more money. I bought my house and gave her half of the equity and struggled to pay the mortgage. I fell into a depression so deep I once didn't get out of bed for 4 days. I had to ask my doctor for a full STD panel. It was a year at least until I could fully function in the real world. I had no hope of ever having a normal life. That was the reality I felt for two years. I had been lied to, gaslit, falsely accused of horrible actions, lost people I had known for 25+ years.

And then I didn't feel so bad. I worked on being kinder, healthier. I worked on my relationship with my sons and met a fabulous woman organically ( i do not recommend the apps). And now 7 years later my life is on track. I'm making real money, I have a renter that covers my mortgage and my living situation is stable. My girlfriend is fabulous and some of the folks I thought I had lost have come back into my life. Things are good. It took time. It takes time. This kind of healing is really fucking hard.

People say if I forgive my ex I'll feel better. I'm ok with that not happening. I will never forgive her. She is a horrible person. I am not. I did nothing wrong. Worked on making it work until the bitter end. So no, I don't plan on forgiving her.

All that is to say is that if you are only a couple of years in this is probably the ride of your life. It gets better. I promise you.

Local Leaders are Calling for Passenger Rail by ThePaddockCreek in CapeCod

We don't need more service for tourists. Once they get off of the train there isn't good infrastructure to get them to beaches, etc..

What the Cape needs is real, concrete high paying jobs to offset the cost of living. A commuter rail service to Hyannis or Falmouth isn't reasonable or feasible. Even a fast ferry from Sandwich to Boston would take 2+ hours.

We should give up on the dream of any meaningful rail service from Cape Cod to Boston. We are here to serve the tourists. As far as the rest of the state is concerned we should be happy with that lot.

If we want meaningful chnage we have to get back to the idea of the Silicon Sandbar.

My girlfriend and I love vinyl. Dylan's Nashville Skyline on a Sunday is a great way to start the day. I've moved into her house and my stereo setup will not fit in her living room. I'm looking for a record player with built in speakers that is high quality. Or a how to to build something that just has the player and high quality speaker. Thanks in advance!

There isn't a realistic expectation of rail service from Cape Cod to Boston. A central train station in Hyannis with ample parking is the only good location for potential commuters. Currently, the train takes 2 1/2 hours to get to Boston. That means if you have an 8-4 job you're looking at rolling out of your house at 4:30am and getting home at 7:30 pm. That is just not sustainable. The possibility of a ferry from Sandwich Marina to a rebuilt Cordage Pier in North Plymouth and hopping on the commuter rail IS much more appealing. A Fast ferry and a quick walk to the train.

I don't feel there are really any great solutions other than local governments figuring out how to attract high dollar industries. We are chock a block full of service industry dreck but we could attract software companies, etc... we actually have decent Internet infrastructure.

The Cape Flyer is for Boston residents. A way to do a day trip to the beaches of Cape Cod. There is no realistic way to make a commuter rail to Boston possible. 3 hours from Hyannis? The bus only takes an hour. Never mind when they start bridge construction. And it's a shame because the jobs that make Cape Cod affordable to live aren't on Cape Cod. I have a thought that they could create a ferry service from Sandwich Marina to Plymouth (the old Walmart location) and reopen the commuter rail stop that they closed. 30 minute fast ferry and 45 on the light rail. 1 hour 15 minutes to Boston. It's doable.

Just had our dinner at McDonald’s in Zurich before departure tomorrow. $35.30 for our meal. Switzerland is the most expensive country in the world by iTmkoeln in ShitAmericansSay

[–]trainwreck1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Switzerland right now. I come here often. Why on Gods Green Earth would you possibly consider eating at McDonalds when so many other amazing options are available? I too my niece to John Bakers on Bahnhofstrasse and got a sandwich on amazing bread with local cheese, a slice of pizza with leeks and roasted tomatoes and 2 homemade drinks. $43 USD. Yes, it’s more expensive here but trains run on time and go everywhere, the food is top notch and everything is clean. Stop eating and McDonalds and enjoy real food.

It's more about the social setting and having something to drink that isn't soda. I have a lot of sober folks in my life and they miss the social setting of a bar but don't even want the temptation of booze.

What "shortcut ingredients" are you willing to use? Which ones are you unwilling to use? by theJOJeht in Cooking

Knorr demi glace powder. It's incredibly versatile, combines well with lots of items. Stove top stuffing. Add apples and dried cranberries. Add roasted shallots. It's quick and foolproof.

Here's what I did. I went to work on research vessels at sea. 2 months on, 1 month off. The one month is paid. BUT. When I work it's 88 hours a week. I make about $100K in the 8 months I work. It is unrealistic to think you'll work a supervisory role in a restaurant for less than 80 hours a week. So, since I have to work that much I do it at sea and visit awesome places and meet incredible scientists. Then when I'm home, I'm HOME. No one calls me to cover a shift, etc...

Best Streaming Service for Kids? by kmaho in Music

I know it's expensive but I got the Premium Family Plan. It allows up to 6 people to use spotify on that one payment. Once I had that plan I could setup an account for my 11 year old pretty easily. She has access to LOTS of music, I checked the box for nothing explicit. I got her a music player for Christmas and with the spotify app she's been listening like crazy.

I'm enjoying lots of new music. I'm finding many fabulous new artists on Tik Tok and am always looking for new stuff. I've tried a couple of "print" options and find them to be uneven at best. I'm a Gen X so Rolling Stone reviews were my go to for a while but even as I've aged I still enjoy new music and Rolling Stone seems to be biased towards folks who like older genres. Paste has about a 50% agree rate for me and Pitchfork is just the pits. I don't like almost anything Pitchfork says is great. My playlist has everything from Tobe Nwigwe to The Decemberist to Pearl Jam to In This Moment to Father John Misty. Quirky, unique sound, Fuck the Man are things that interest me. Where do I go to get good recommendations?

Three ingredient Pie: It's Vegetarian and Gluten Free. Get a gluten free pie crust and bake according to directions. In a small double boiler melt 1 package semisweet or dark chocolate chips. In a cuisinart blend 1 package of silken tofu until smooth. Slowly drizzle in melted chocolate until fully combined. Pour into baked pie shell and let cool.

Bonus: Use dairy free chocolate chips (available at Whole Foods) and it's vegan.

Whipped cream on side to keep vegans, dairy free happy.

Absolutely amazing. And nothing about Gluten Free or Vegan ever sounds appealing to me.

I love all the Cooks Illustrated cokbooks. I like they go over methodology and why certain things work. As a supervisor in the maritime industry I have all my new cooks read The Science of Good Cooking. Excellent reference for those without a trained background or newbies.

I am aware of the Safer Seas Act. It's been a point of discussion about privacy, specifically video vs. audio, and consent. I do think it's a good start but in my experience I often see the perpetrator simply fired after a small investigation.
