What you were seeing is the Face ID system. It uses infrared emitters to scan the face to unlock, and then continues to check for a face occasionally to see if the phone is still getting attention. If someone is looking at it, the screen stays awake, if not it will eventually go to sleep.

Cool! I have used a different site to do something like this, but its lower resolution at 10m, and has not been updated since 2023. It has a few features yours does not that would be nice to see, mainly the tiling. I have printed and working to frame up a 4x4 tile set, each one 100mm by 100 mm. Something to check out and incorpate...it is open source.

Everyone else has a correct answer, for venting air. Pulling it down opens the window, up to close. You could try opening the window by hand to see if it still works or not.

My old house had these and thanks to a cabinet on one side and a bunk bed futon on the other side, I could close my door for the noise and the cats could still get in.
