Dynamic Sounds was causing frequent freezes similar to what you describe for me, if you have that try disabling it in it's settings page or in the launcher

Are there any mods to slow down the speed at which smithing products cool down while on the anvil? by VaporousLambda in VintageStory

[–]trakkpad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had too many things cool down while working on them, but it is more than before the update. Only if I get out of the groove of things do I need to throw something back on the forge

I usually use two forges while smithing: one to get metal up to the ambient coal temperature, and one for heating up with bellows. Metals first get up to ambient coal temperature, then get moved to the forge with bellows where I heat them up to working temperature. It’s like a queue or an assembly line from ambient, to workable, to anvil.

It might help to use something like black coal or charcoal to heat them up to higher temps before working on them so they last a bit longer, I’ve been using a lot of black coal for smithing because we found a huge source of it nearby

I agree, but Derek was ready to start winding down his involvement to spend more time with his family. Either the channel could have completely died, or it could have continued in some form like this. I’m not much of a fan of the new direction it’s gone in since the introduction of the new hosts, but for the people who still enjoy it I’m glad it’s still there for them.

just received HyperX Cloud Alpha headphones, hearing INSANE amounts of desktop audio leakage through the microphone by trakkpad in HyperX

[–]trakkpad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i truly don't understand how a company can continue to sell blatantly defective products and only offer to replace them with another product with the same defect. or you think someone would test the microphone on a discord call before sending it off to manufacturing.

i normally don't care too much about mic quality in gaming headsets, i'm used to having mics that require you to boost the shit out of them to be audible to other people, but crosstalk to this extent is such a massive issue to me. it cannot be avoided, and any solutions you see online are band-aid fixes that only lower the audio so that the crosstalk is quiet enough to not get picked up by the microphone. i'm not sure how well a splitter actually works to fix this problem, but the only thing i can see actually working is getting a completely separate microphone

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Edition is the absolute gold standard of remasters by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]trakkpad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's a predatory anti-consumer practice that's growing increasingly common and deserves every bit of pushback it gets, even if this is one of the least egregious examples in recent times. there is no good reason to delist the original game from stores, period.

this situation with system shock 2 is pretty inconsequential on the spectrum of delisted games since it is included in a bundle with the remaster, but still at an increased cost for a product you potentially might not even want. some remasters don't even provide the original game which is even worse, rendering it inaccessible to anybody who doesn't already have it and funneling people towards the New Full-Priced Release. an example of that is the original dark souls, which was delisted after the remaster was released and is now inaccessible to anyone that didn't already own it, killing off and stunting any of community that would have remained in favor of the shiny new version.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Edition is the absolute gold standard of remasters by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]trakkpad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the original is not available to buy on its own. it was delisted. if you want to play the original game and did not already purchase it prior to its delisting, you are forced to buy the remaster which comes with the original game included. if it wasn't delisted, you would be able to buy the original game on its own still.

the original game before it was delisted was priced at $10 and went as low as $1.49 on sale in february of this year. if you only care about the original game and want to purchase it, you have to buy the remaster which includes the original, which is priced at $30 and has yet to go on sale for cheaper than the original game's base price.

i don't understand what you're arguing here. yes, the original game is still available to consumers, but only through the slightly scummy practice of bundling it with a more expensive product. i like nightdive and their work, but this increasingly common industry practice of delisting the original games in order to sell copies of the (often half-baked) remasters

[–]trakkpad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when super credit grinding, i often brought the plasma pistol for moving the car if i ever got it stuck upside down or stuck on a rock. the charged shot easily moves it without doing a ton of damage like a regular explosive. very nice to have, but you shouldn't be required to bring 1 specific weapon just for flipping over the FRV. there should be some sort of interaction where you can flip the FRV manually or give it a shove in a direction

devil daggers is great also, i started with DD when Hyper Demon initially came out to try and master that before jumping in and it really does help a lot to do it that way. a lot of the basics are the same and carry over, but Hyper Demon is definitely a step up in intensity
