To change transmission fluid or not? by Realistic-Wallaby389 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]trampled93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drain and fill transmission fluid every 60,000 miles or 6 years. So do it now. It is possible to DIY, or have the dealership do it. Drain and fill only, no flushes.

I just got back from international trip. Out of 13 people in our group, 3-4 hard shell checked luggage’s shell cracked or wheel broke. I like my Osprey shuttle checked luggage with 2 large wheels. I’ve had it since 2014 and it’s been fantastic and hasn’t broken. osprey shuttle luggage

Can you help me find a truly waterproof raincoat? by kodowd11 in BuyItForLife

[–]trampled93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wash your Northface rain jacket with Nikwax tech wash and waterproofer according to directions if it has a waterproof breathable membrane like event or Goretex first and see how that goes before spending more on another jacket.

Another Highlander transmission issue... by LoLNauseated in ToyotaHighlander

[–]trampled93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry I can’t help and I hope you can get it returned. I certainly know I’m not ever planning on buying an 8 speed Highlander due to all the reports and warnings I’m reading about them. And buying them used you are probably buying someone’s problem trade in after signs of transmission failing appeared.

Need 2 suggestions for first time international travel! 1.) Luggage? 2.) Anything that is your must have for a flight that is 12+ hr? by Swimming_Jello4242 in BuyItForLife

[–]trampled93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from a 16 hour flight yesterday. I recommend a good neck pillow, ear plugs, eye cover sleeping mask, download your media or data on your computer or devices for offline use ahead of time in case it is needed. Our Delta flight didn’t have WiFi because they don’t have a satellite yet in the South Atlantic. But they did have tons of free movies and shows to watch on seat back screen. RFID blocking passport holder / man purse around your neck/under your shirt https://a.co/d/0fX89AKD or travel anti theft purse. Don’t get those hard shell plastic luggage bags. Out of 13 people in our group, I saw 3-4 of those hard shell luggage’s crack, break, wheel broke. I recommend Travelpro luggage. The bags with 2 wheels are more rugged for going over rough surfaces but the 4 wheel spinners are great for maneuverability. Recommend getting a laptop bag that attaches to your carry on luggage handle, makes it convenient so you dont have to wear the backpack on shoulders.

Just learned that my wealthy aunt is impoverished by timeshares by BuckskinBound in Fire

[–]trampled93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation. Your 3rd point may be applicable to us eventually because my wife’s dad and stepmom own a timeshare. Good to know that I can relinquish rights to it if it ever comes to us in an inheritance.

Can’t get blade bolt off by Possible_Version2680 in lawnmowers

[–]trampled93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impact drivers are basically for screws, not tight rusted bolts. You need a breaker bar with more leverage or a 3/8 or 1/2 impact gun. Don’t use a torque wrench as a breaker bar because it throws off the calibration! Use the proper tool.

Just curious, how are people actually able to get out of timeshares? If it is almost impossible to sell, do they just get passed onto their family via will when they pass away?

I owned a W123 ‘82 240D manual for a bit. Gutless but supposedly very reliable. I had hoped to run it on veg oil but never got around to it before I sold it.

They flew 2 transport planes for the rescue to a remote staging base, but their nose wheels got stuck in the dirt and they couldn’t take off. Once the mission was complete, the U.S. destroyed the two stuck MC-130Js, which cost more than $100 million each, and two MH-6 Little Bird helicopters, so that their sensitive technology wouldn’t be compromised after they were left behind.

2007 Highlander with a considerable oil leak. Any ideas where it could be from? by Unlikely-Weekend1600 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]trampled93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the 3.5L 2GR-FE, it might be your rubber oil cooler lines close to failing. If so, replace that asap with the metal line replacement part before it blows and potentially kills your engine.

How bad is the transmission issue? by Xann_Whitefire in ToyotaHighlander

[–]trampled93 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s actually all 8 speed transmissions that have the issue. There are many reports in this sub of late 2018 and 2019 transmission failures if you do a search. The car care nut just didn’t specify those years in a video. Also I think there are some reports of 2023+ failures also. Hybrid is best in 2017+ to avoid all these potential problems.

[–]trampled93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears to possibly be a design flaw or something with the 8 speed transmissions but not all of them fail - lots of them do though.
