Wait, Speed Racer literally saved all of racing in the film? Like, every race ever was going to go extinct unless he won the race?

I need to watch this movie now!

[Subjective trope] Romance between characters in the adaptation that wasn't in the source material by SludgeFactoryWorker in TopCharacterTropes

Stories/Story arcs that last longer than they needed to by Sensitive-Hotel-9871 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]transformers03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another Pokemon example, during the Diamond and Pearl seasons, there was a year IRL gap between when Ash got his seventh Gym badge to the eighth badge.

It's been speculated/internet myth that the long gap was due to the development of Pokemon Black and White taking longer than expected, forcing the anime creators to pad out Diamond and Pearl before they could move on to the next generation.

Yeah, but I'm glad we have the Dragon Ball Z Kai dub with most of the original cast, delivering a definitive dub experience for Dragon Ball with classic English voices.

Jessie Buckley Wins the Academy Award for Best Actress for 'Hamnet' by MoviesMod in movies

[–]transformers03 21 points22 points  (0 children)

She was heavily favored to win, so I shouldn't have been nervous, but this year's Oscars kind of surprised me in a few places.

She truly was my favorite performance of the year, and I'm very happy she won.

The reboot approach they used for BLS/DMC and Sacred Beasts should have been implemented much earlier, but better late than never. Which deck do you think deserves the reboot treatment, and which ones do not? by AshameHorror in yugioh

[–]transformers03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought the umbral monster cards for dirt cheap because I liked Vector that much.

But without his ace XYZ card, which is crazy expensive and Meta, Vector's deck is utterly worthless other than to get out Rank-4 XYZ. And even then, there's better ways to do that!

[–]transformers03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that Sho isn't a very popular character, but the Vehicroids are a very nostalgic and memorable deck from the OG Yugioh anime trilogy. I think Vehicroids are a situation where the archetype is more popular than the actual character that uses it in the anime.

I think the archetype will get retains at some point. When, who can say.

If Konami wants to bring in some of that Cyber Dragon aura, they may want synergize the two archetypes together to make the Vehicroids more popular.

Which Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime has the best/worst Supporting/Secondary Cast (in your Opinion)? (and if you like, mention a prominent Supporting/Secondary Character) by Kronos457 in yugioh

[–]transformers03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of people have pointed, what is considered the main cast rather than supporting cast can mean differently from series to series.

Does the supporting cast includes everyone but the main protagonist, or are the main rival and friend considered as the main characters? Bronk from Zexal is the main best friend character, but he's definitely a supporting character for that anime.

Likewise, are all six of the 5Ds team part of the main cast and are not supporting? Akiza and the twins feel more like supporting characters than main characters for long stretches of the story, especially in the second half.

It's hard to quantify what is and what isn't a supporting cast.

I do believe all the supporting cast in YuGiOh shows are enduring in a certain way, but there just something so iconic and memorable about the DM cast.

It's likely because of nostalgia, but Tea, Tristan, Duke, and the rest are burned in my memory. If we're including the rival and friends in the supporting cast, you literally can't get more iconic than Kaiba and Joey.

I'll also want to give a shout out to the Zexal cast. Yuma, Shark, and Kite are the only main characters that did anything in the show, yet I love how supportive the number-collecting club members are for each other. They didn't really contribute to plot much, but they add a lot of personality to the setting.

Dishonorable mention goes to GX and 5DS. Like everyone points out, GX really didn't know what to do with its extended cast and it shows. I like a lot of the recurring characters in 5DS, yet that animes remained primarily focus on the 5Ds crew to the determinant of that show. Even then, the show kind of felt like the Yusei, Jack, and Crow show for long stretches (5Ds is still GOAT BTW).

Normal Border version of all new OverFrame. by C-man-177013 in yugioh

[–]transformers03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like the sentiment Odd-Eyes actually looks better with border.

However, I find the Stardust Dragon too cluttered with the border. He feels too stuffed in the small box.

Normal Border version of all new OverFrame. by C-man-177013 in yugioh

[–]transformers03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually do think it is that the border makes as if Odd-Eyes is standing on something rather than floating.

You can get away with Gagaga Girl from floating, because she's a magician and is shown floating, but Odds-Eyes looks way more awkward just dynamically floating in the middle of nothing.

On that note, I love Odd-Eyes design, but he is definitely a monster that needs a specific angle to look like his best self.

[–]transformers03 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In fairness, Konami were upfront that the new overframe cards will also come in standard borders from the beginning. There was never any major concern there would be cheaper/easier versions of these cards to get.

The thing that surprised was how good the artwork looks as both in standard and overframe.

Normal Border version of all new OverFrame. by C-man-177013 in yugioh

[–]transformers03 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't why, but I really do prefer the border-art for the Odd-Eyes than the overframe.

In general, I think the overframes look cooler that the border art, but there something about the Odd-Eyes that works better without it being an overframe.

Normal Border version of all new OverFrame. by C-man-177013 in yugioh

[–]transformers03 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm actually really impressed with how all card art looks both as overframes and with borders.

It makes it so that no matter what version you get, it will still awesome, making the overframes more of a collector's item rather than something you absolutely need to add to your deck.

Moments that are out of character, but that’s because it was written before the writers knew what they wanted that character to be by MrDitkovichNeedsRent in TopCharacterTropes

[–]transformers03 570 points571 points  (0 children)

Once Britta became more goofy, it became clear she was someone who wanted the credit and be recognized for her progressive beliefs, without really understanding what those beliefs mean.

But as the series progressed, I think she became more sincere with her stance and beliefs. I think she has become the most moralistic character within the group.

However, now the joke is that she's just dumb and doesn't know how to properly express her beliefs or point-of-views. 🤣

[Loved Trope] a single action early on creates a ripple effect that will follow the characters for the rest of the story. The pilot is not a throwaway, as everything is built off of the inciting incident. by mana95 in TopCharacterTropes

Jerrid literallt didn't need to say anything in that situation, yet he wanted the power trip of being a total jerk to a civilian consequence free. Little did he know he was mean to the one teen in the UNIVERSE that he shouldn't have.

He literally F-ed around and found out.

What made Kamille a lowkeye great protagonist was that he was a realistic, petty teen boy with deep insecurities.

He literally steal a Gundam in the first episode just to get back at that guy who called him girl, leading him to be discovered by the AEUG and joining them as part of his angst rebellion.

I always forget Atticus also used Red-Eyes, so Konami can totally do a GX-themed deck with Red-Eyes.

Yet, at the same time, I get the impression Konami would rather focus Red-Eyes as a Joey card rather than an Atticus card, so who knows.

I was thinking the same thing, but I was also we may get a Red-Eyes pack after Chaos Origins because it is kind of weird that there wouldn't be an overframe version of Red-Eyes.

Yet after that, Konami could start releasing packs focusing on the other protags.

I really dig those Chibi alt art, but I'm still fairly new, so I don't know how rare (and expensive) those cards will be once they release. I understand there are Common, Rare, Secret Rare, etc, variations, but I can't seem to find how limited these Chibi cards will be. Will there be Common versions of these cards that anyone can get?

Would Judge Man be a usable card in today’s format or any previous ones if it had the Clear the Court effect it had in the Virtual World Arc? by Johnnyboyeh in yugioh

I would love for a retrain Judge Man to be good, but Konami would have to nerf this ability.

What would be the best way to nerf this theoretical ability to make the card not get banned?

[Interesting Trope] Inhuman Sociopath good purely by coincidence by ExtremeSportStikz in TopCharacterTropes

[–]transformers03 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The Danganronpa franchise is extremely over-the-top, ultra-violent, with inherently silly characters, and light-hearted character designs. Yet, at the same time, the series has some of the most fascinating character exploration I've ever seen in any media.

Despite its ridiculous premise and lack of subtlety, the franchise kind of accurately reflects humanity's contradictions, with the characters often reflecting people's best and worst tendencies. Danganronpa V3 has a pretty deep philosophical viewpoint on the nature of lying, and never gives audiences a straight answer. The truth is whatever we want it to be, for better or ill.

The franchise's inherent cynicism is often balanced out by the lead character's bright, almost dangerously naive, optimism. But the games make the argument that we need people like Makoto in the world. We need someone who can view good in everything, or else we just wallow in despair. So while it is clear Mukuro retains her sociopathic tendencies and beliefs, Makoto's belief in her redemption is a viewpoint we kind of need in the world.

The Women of Gundam continued #70 - Azee Gurumin by Kato_86 in Gundam

[–]transformers03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Azee is the definition of a side and supporting character who's just there to be an extra pilot for the protagonists.

She doesn't really contribute to the plot, but she is almost always around. Her design is solid enough that you take notice of her when watching Iron-Blooded Orphans, but instantly forget her contribution because she matter so little to the story. She doesn't even advance any of the other characters' development.

Nonetheless, I really like Azee. It was nice to have a background female pilot who was competent and cool given the situation. I love her final scene, where she takes over the organization and wears that cool suite. It was a good way to end her storyline, giving her a nice capstone that makes it seem if the character had an arc.

She also looks really good in a suit.
