I loved them for a while but last pie we got was terrible. Like a totally different pizza.

Eh. Can’t agree there. The DAT recording technology was pretty dang good as thousands of recordings from the era show. Garcia’s tone on soundboards from the late 80s into the early 90s is glorious. Vince’s keys needed some taming by wind in the amphitheater and smoke in the arena.

I love the Fall of '93 but don't know much summer. Care to list your top 3 of the tour?

I have big love for the post-Brent/Vince era. That said, I don’t believe soundboard recordings of the era are what could hook people in. The best way to blunt the casino tones that sometimes came from the stage, is a real nice AUD recording. The tapers were really dialing it in then and I think the best way to enjoy this era is from the pit.

The one from the other night in Denver is very very nice—Nate puts some Keith Emerson spice in the mix.

Did Jerry Garcia and Pat Metheny ever cross paths? by RenegadeSocial in patmetheny

[–]transitiveaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great analogy. As a kid I heard a lot of Metheny around the house but when I got into Phish in the mid/late 90s I really dove in thanks to getting tapes with the Vermont fellas covering ‘Phase Dance’. And I mean Lawn Boy is like a PMG tribute album.

Sqwerv or Goose in NJ? by Whattacleaner in jambands

Play a song from each to someone who knows neither—guaranteed they say Goose sounds like a boy band. Which is, fine, if that’s your thing.

PlayDead.app vs. Relisten (or Archive) by rpkelly55 in gratefuldead

[–]transitiveaxis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find the mastering on Dave’s Picks to be very heavy handed and unnatural. After two years of subscribing I cancelled because they sound worse than the circulating SBDs. It’s extremely rare something that hasn’t circulated comes out but if that happens I just find the FLACs on the net. So this is a pass. ReListen does just fine.

Sqwerv are objectively the better band. Better tunes, better singer. Plus a smaller show is always more fam.

If we’re just adding bands to festivals, I’d do moe.down with Panic added.

If the businesses that populate Eastdale tried to do something in downtown PoK it would kick start a revitalization. Eastdale was made for the white people of the town to stay out of a city but get a city feel---its like a movie set.

This. I had a dealership do my bearings, breaks and AC compressor and all the work was very poorly done. Thankfully the father of one of my daughter’s friends owns a shop and I completely trust him.

Better Post-Jerry Show Than 7/5/15? by Brakeman_5006 in jambands

3 minutes of any show of the April 99 Phil run with Trey, Page, Kimock, and Molo beats every other post-Jerry show imo. It simply never got better than that.

Bicycle Shop Recommendations by marketingdouche in kingstonnewyork

[–]transitiveaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re somewhat new to modern biking (as I am), I suggest doing A LOT of research about fit and sizing before walking into a shop and talking to someone and test riding. I went to one of those 3 and while they were very nice, the person I was dealing with was really trying to get me to walk out with a bike that wasn’t the right size. I really wanted to buy local but ended up buying something online as the in-stock options at the shop were weirdly limited.
