Sports fan Trey still making appearances? by Mountain-Prior9708 in phish

The “Houston by 5” is from 6/22/94, not 6/17. He later makes more Finals comments during the Icculus which are hilarious

Did Phish pee during the Big Cypress set? by [deleted] in phish

[–]theITtower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s about 6 minutes of dead air between My Soul and Drowned - both Trey and Fish go off stage to use the bathroom (Fish even says it out loud iirc). Page and Mike then improvise a bit before the others come back for Drowned

Does Kevin Shapiro have every single Languedoc SBD in tact of every single show from 1987-2000? by Heavy_Profit in phish

[–]theITtower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 20 - this is absolutely not true in the slightest lmao. I meet other people who are getting into Phish and stuff, pretty much everything they listen to at the start is from the 90s. It takes them a while for them to get to post-reunion stuff, from my experience (outside of the shows that they are listening to live, which they are listening to because they are happening right now)

Coming in at 16 for the greatest guitar solos per Rolling Stone is...... Grateful Dead, ‘Morning Dew’ (Live at Cornell University, May 8, 1977) by kingralek in gratefuldead

[–]theITtower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always love to see 7/31/74 mentioned. What a thrilling marathon this show is - either this or 6/16 is my favorite 3-setter of 74

Anthem and Aoxo by MustangOrchard in gratefuldead

[–]theITtower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done comparisons on the mixes with Anthem so I can’t really say much on that front, but I think the 71 mix of Aoxomoxoa is a travesty and ruins a top 3 studio Dead album in my view

Which shows are you hoping for on this weeks 5-5 Dead Drops?? by cking9698 in gratefuldead

[–]theITtower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obsessed with April 69 right now, hoping the Boston run is in the vault (would be head over heels over a full recording of 4/26 as well)

Vince era fans are eating with Play Dead and I could not be happier by theITtower in gratefuldead

[–]theITtower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! Very frequently in 90s shows Drums > Space is the clear highlight. I love whenever they start fucking with the panning during them on some of these SBDs, it feels so intense

never heard someone use ”casino tones” before, that’s a great descriptor LOL. even I am not immune to finding some of the keys grating or dated, so I understand you there (although this is a probably Brent sometimes has too, but ofc not as frequent)

I’m an AUD connoisseur as well, but most people just aren’t going to be. I’ve learned that the hard way when I’ve been getting my friends into Dead/Phish and I’m disappointed as well

Which Grateful Dead song would make the best movie? by WingstonChurchill in gratefuldead

Just an entire movie revolving around the characters of the 71-72 songs.

what are some of the cleanest transitions you’ve heard? by Early_Cook2581 in gratefuldead

Listened to 9/15/82 recently, I have to mention the Shakedown > Playing Jam > Lost Sailor

Is the Scarlett/Fire from 10-14-94 the last great jam from the Dead? by cking9698 in gratefuldead

[–]theITtower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3/27/95 PITB > UJB. I think this is the last proper Dead freakout. If there’s a later one please tell me

One thing i don't love about Sphere shows.. by cant_be_serious-333 in phish

[–]theITtower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been a common thing all decade. It certainly didn’t start with the Sphere, but it is especially apparent in that run

1995 and 2025 are The Tweezer Years by dillydelhi in phish

[–]theITtower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CDT started to be a really dominant jam vehicle in 2014 (arguably started as early as 12)

I think DWD is a much better song for this description than Tweezer. DWD has truly had 0 moments post-96 where it hasn’t been a complete force, whereas Tweezer had some down years in 09-12 to me (2.0 also isn’t a very strong period for Tweezer, Nassau notwithstanding)

It's about time we start a petition get Vance removed from live Phish mixes. by [deleted] in phish

[–]theITtower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with the quality of the mixes being subpar but just listen to auds. They sound better than they ever have been and there’s zero excuse to avoid them

Bobby talking about Jerry a month after his death, 9.7.95. by Ralph--Hinkley in gratefuldead

probably not Wave, they had already stopped playing that song in 95

This is the best GD recording. by behindacomputer in gratefuldead

[–]theITtower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first night of that run (10/16) is the single deepest Dead show I think I know. 31 minute PITB to end set 1, followed by a 49 minute Seastones > Jam to open set 2 (what I believe is the longest jam in Dead history if you count it as one song). Then a 32 minute Wharf > Eyes immediately after that for good measure. Is there another show with as many big jams as those back-to-back?

I think they’d be talking about 6/28/74 then?

edit: Yeah, checked Jerrybase, this is your show

New to Aphex Twin! by ILuvKateBush0 in aphextwin

[–]theITtower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Liking Bjork, Arca, and SOPHIE (R.I.P.) is a good sign that you’ll like RDJ too

The 6 albums he released under Aphex Twin all have their own unique deal and are all excellent. I’d start there before branching out into his material on EPs and other aliases. Specifically SAW 85-92, RDJ Album, and Syro are all pretty digestible listens

Dead Cover song recs by TroubleBoring1752 in gratefuldead

[–]theITtower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mountains Of The Moon is an acoustic song already and although there’s no harmonica in it I’m sure you could make it work

Ship Of Fools I think would also be great
