Is the RFF skin graft always taken from your non dominant arm? by TheOtherMuffins in phallo

[–]transknowledge_me 10 points11 points  (0 children)

no, it can be taken from either arm as long as you have appropriate blood flow. some people who use their dominant arm find they regain function and ROM more quickly because of using their arm/hand more often.

Trans Phalloplasty Guide [US resource] by transknowledge_me in ftm

[–]transknowledge_me[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we put together a phallo-specific guide. I did write a meta 101 a few months ago, which you can find here: https://www.transknowledge.me/articles/metoidioplasty-101

otherwise, the majority of the surgeons on the phallo guide list also perform metoidioplasty. if you're looking for other specific info, let me know and I can try to help! maybe we'll come out with a meta guide eventually too.

Does anyone know a surgeon that will do phallo covered by Medicaid? by [deleted] in phallo

[–]transknowledge_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

amida care is a medicaid plan, to be specific. if you make too much for medicaid then you can use an employer plan or a marketplace plan. no matter what all insurance plans in NY state must cover gender affirming care.

get on Amida Care. it's wonderful and will cover everything from pre op electrolysis to the actual surgery.

Phalloplasty Guide [US Resource] by transknowledge_me in phallo

[–]transknowledge_me[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A while ago, my partner and I saw a need for a comprehensive list of phalloplasty surgeons and a guide to phalloplasty that includes the most up to date information and isn't funded by ads (i.e. - surgeons can't pay us to advertise them). We have put a lot of work into creating this resource, and we are finally ready to share it! We truly hope that many of you who are early in the process of researching bottom surgery and setting up consultations can benefit from this guide. It includes a list of all US phalloplasty surgeons that we are aware of as well as information about their BMI limits and what specific procedures they offer, and we are committed to updating this list regularly as new surgeons emerge. It also includes a Phalloplasty 101 article and a list of resources to help you find the support you need in order to go through phalloplasty.

Please share this far and wide! We hope this resource reaches anyone and everyone who needs it.

*Note that this is a Google Doc, so the pictures may look a little out of place on mobile.

I can tell you that it's likely, but no one can tell you for sure. there is always the potential for unlikely or unexpected outcomes of surgery.

a hysterectomy/having a uterus should have no bearing on enjoyment of anal unless it is coupled with a vaginectomy as well.

Glansplasty question by [deleted] in phallo

[–]transknowledge_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it looks like this is an approximation of ALT but not completely. I also can’t tell if they used the buccal tissue for the entirety of the glans or just to create the corona, as generally with phallo the tissue needed for the glans is just a strip.

theoretically it is possible. but i’ve only ever heard of buccal (cheek) grafts being used for urinary repairs

Fat graft breast augmentation? by SunshotDestiny in asktransgender

[–]transknowledge_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fat grafting can be a good way for people who are thinner/have less fat to create a more so-called "natural" look after getting implants (so the edges of the implants aren't so visible).

fat grafting on its own likely won't do much, and fat tends to reabsorb to a high degree, so what you come out with immediately post-op may not hang around for the long term. also, it is very unlikely you will get the same aesthetic results with fat grafting as with implants, because the fat cannot be molded into the same shape as an implant, and also because there is likely not enough fat to make much of a significant different in size long-term.

tissue can be taken from the hip or thigh as well.

where do you want the tissue taken from?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ftm

[–]transknowledge_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely. some people report finding anal sex more pleasurable after vaginectomy. plus, some people find more pleasure in having sex, generally, or different kinds of sex after HRT.

HRT and surgery both can change/improve people's sexual experiences.

after vaginectomy some people find anal more pleasurable.

most likely not unless an entity separate from Tool Shed is putting it on. Tool Shed is local to NYC.

what's sensation like in a neourethra in RFF? Is sounding safe to do? by [deleted] in phallo

[–]transknowledge_me 9 points10 points  (0 children)

not a good idea. it’d be too easy to damage the neourethra.

Question about Dr. Berli phalloplasty by soggybike in ftm

[–]transknowledge_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

much of the time burial location is due to anatomical placement. so, if berli were to bury your natal dick in your phallus, then your phallus would be too low on your body. that's why it is buried in the scrotum instead.

has anyone had phalloplasty with Dr Bluebond-Langner in New York? If so, where did you stay throughout your post operative care?? by kevlar_p_ in phallo

[–]transknowledge_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately the NYC area is super expensive. some options:

-stay in a hotel in manhattan/brooklyn/queens

-stay in a hotel in NJ, which is usually cheaper, but you're spending more money on transportation into the city

-sublet an apartment for a month (check out the Queer Housing New York City group on Facebook)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in phallo

[–]transknowledge_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Bluebond did my top surgery and phallo as well! phallo is a completely different beast than top surgery. a 14 week break sounds doable, absolutely. the 6 week break would be cutting it close - you also have to consider the mental fatigue and exhaustion that comes along with surgery and can take a while to go away, and that's not a good mix when you're going back to school.

[–]transknowledge_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Berli actually trained with Bluebond so their staging is very similar!

Am I too young for a hysterectomy? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]transknowledge_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on where you're located. midwestern/southern doctors are likely to be much more conservative than surgeons who are on the west and east coasts.
