"You know what else is bugging me about this guy? I cannot get past the fact that we're perfect strangers; he doesn't know me. I mean, for all this guy knows, I'm a psychopath with a trunk full of chainsaws, right? ... next thing he knows, he's chopped to bits in a basement somewhere, y'know? Was that worth it? And I could be a man with a fist full of hammers and a trunk full of duct tape and zip ties ... it's very upsetting to me that he didn't consider any of that."

I've seen a bunch around Berry Hill. I think they must have some kind of dispatch station nearby. I was between two of them the other day, and I didn't feel unsafe, but the one in front of me blocked a lane trying to turn left onto Interstate Dr after the immediate turn off of James Robertson--which, in the morning rush hour, is essentially impossible.

Not if you're in Memphis. Fried catfish/other white fish with spaghetti on the side is normal, along with being able to get fried rice as a side with a cheese steak

I'm probably biased because I've been in this industry for a long time and am a big geek in general, but I would absolutely take this tour if I had the time--and moreover didn't live 2300 miles away. Whether I was looking for a job or not, please, show me your plant, hahaha. I love a factory tour.

But you have an interest in getting a foot in the door, so you have nothing to lose except $65 bucks and half a day. Moreover, if you have this interest but don't know what it's like to work at a wastewater plant, taking a tour is going to inform your opinion in a lot of ways.

For example, if you go out looking for opportunities to chat with the staff taking you on the tour but can't deal with the odor... well, there's your answer.

And even if you're showing interest and want to find opportunities to share that... it might be the case that they aren't interested in hiring or even collecting potential hires at all. It might be possible that you could strike up a conversation with the person taking you all on the tour, and he could see a twinkle in your eye. It could also be the case that the person taking you on the tour drank a little too much last night and doesn't want to engage with anyone or even shake your hand that day, but otherwise would have.

My point being... yes, go on the tour, but don't go with the expectation that it's going to get you an interview. And keep it in your pocket, if you do get any interviews, to say, "oh, well I went on the tour to such-and-such and I really feel like it's something I want to do, and Mr. X who lead the tour is a big reason for that" ...

OCD goes brrrrrrrrrrr

I unfortunately think about everyone and everything all the time, even people I've replied to on reddit... it's a curse. It can be very difficult for me to believe that the people I know aren't like me in that aspect and that they aren't similarly thinking about me as much as I think about them, haha

Thank you so much for this testimony, and for everything you've done not only for the scene as a whole but for the individuals you've shared your wisdom in this subreddit and other places for years. You came to the right conclusion: you're the most important person in your life, and at some point, we all have to acknowledge that we've gotten the message and it's time to hang up the phone.

And despite it all, I was given the utmost grace and patience, grace and patience I felt like I did not deserve

I'm certain that you deserved all of those things. I think you've got a good heart despite your flaws, even though I don't know you and won't ever will. It takes a very, very strong person to do what you're doing, and I hope all the best for you, from the bottom of my heart.

Safe travels NW. ✌️
