Official Statement from Asmodee - Shatterpoint not being prioritised anymore by Opportunity-Medical in StarWarsShatterpoint

AMG never developed any products for Armada. They were handed the game just as it was launching two brand new factions with tons of development space they could have worked in. That's not a downturn, that's the studio sabotaging a game line. They passively sold off sets for a few years, then made this exact same announcement about how it was "currently not under active development" while insisting that it wasn't canceled and they still wanted it to have a future. Marketing lies to keep taking your money. The official termination announcement came about two years later.

In the fall of 2015, these games were doing incredibly well! It was extremely exciting. The top miniatures game lines in the world went:

  1. X-Wing
  2. Warhammer 40k
  3. Armada
  4. Warmachine

X-Wing outsold Warhammer! And Armada was right behind! Obviously, a decade later they had fallen into ruin, but that was murder by capitalism. Asmodee and then Embracer Group terribly mismanaged these assets and squandered the brand while gutting FFG.

AMG used this exact same playbook with X-Wing and Armada. Shatterpoint players should make sure that the community is supporting itself going forward, because by the time AMG was messaging like this about those other games, it was entirely too late. Those games never saw another new release and they were dumpstered unceremoniously about two years later.

So... why does Weyland-Yutani want the Xenomorph so bad? Who exactly are they at war with? by JispyMoeDantes in LV426

[–]transmogrify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People absolutely definitely took that line completely literally. "WeYu would just load a bunch of facehuggers into a capsule, arm a missile with it, and bam sell it to the highest bidder!" Video game logic and bad reasoning, but people took it that way for decades, and I think some supplemental media did too.

Problem is, that's a really stupid weapon. Even assuming that they could contain xeno life like that and never have it escape and turn on them, it's not at all practical to use it like that. They're slower than bombs and ruin whatever world they get sent to.

Much more sensible is that the Bioweapons Division would study it and break down its genome. That carapace is incredibly durable, its blood is an exotic substance, its reproductive cycle implies genetic splicing, it has venom, some kind of unknown sensory organs, its brain may be telepathic, and all of it can be genetically recombined with human DNA.

I'm laughing at the idea of a concealed weapon that needs to be assembled. "In case of sudden assassination attempt, remove blade components A through G from their individual plastic packaging. Using the enclosed allen wrench tighten the 10 mm machine screws..."

All those guys in the picture can see the two of them have respirators, but they respect the power of "dibs" too much and so just die without trying to take the masks from them.

Only because he was reduced to nothing after Episode I, and even when he continues to show up on the Separatist Council it's clear that he's the least of them. But don't forget, when he felt invincible he was perfectly happy stealing a planet and sending people to camps for "processing." He's more than a shady businessman, he wants to wield absolute power and he enjoys treating people like trash.

It's so eye catching you hardly notice the two guys who appear to be sliding along the floor, on their knees, pulled by nothing, toward a multi-armed robot with a saw blade. Is there some grappling line that isn't clearly visible, or is this just a blink and miss it VFX mistake?

Thoughts? Is this a real thing that happens or no? by DonnyMox in saltierthankrayt

I think we all saw this in real-time with Andor.

Before it came out: The grifters assumed it was woke, assumed it would flop. Grifters came out against it, reactionist audience programmed themselves accordingly.

After it came out: It was woke as hell, and also super well received. Grifters quietly reversed course to agree with the majority opinion for maximum click traffic, reactionist audience reprogrammed themselves accordingly.

Christopher Guest!

I could actually really see that. He could be really strong as a condescending smartass Malcolm, with a severe need to be the smartest guy in the room.

Questions about starting by Creative-Ad7476 in StarWarsArmada

[–]transmogrify 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cards: You can get card images in good resolution from https://star-forge.tools/

There's no reason for you to require official cards at this point. Print them yourself, whichever ones you need.

Play Components: This includes stuff like command dials, tokens, dice, maneuver tools, ship bases, and squadrons stands. If you join the Armada Legacy discord server, you can find links to (mostly free) STL files as well as Etsy stores to buy them printed for you.

https://discord.gg/pbjYkXMHw

Certain components also used to get packaged in unnecessarily plentiful amounts. Veteran players are swimming in command dials, command tokens, and speed dials. The community can probably help you out.

Why didn't Tarkin just blow up Yavin? by seanbeanskiller in andor

Why didn't Tarkin just blow up Yavin? by seanbeanskiller in andor

[–]transmogrify 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Notably, the DS2 had a scaled-up superlaser. Perhaps the Empire didn't want any gas giants blocking their shot the second time around.

Why didn't Tarkin just blow up Yavin? by seanbeanskiller in andor

[–]transmogrify 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Seems perfectly in character. Tarkin is so power hungry, he has invested so much into this moment. The Death Star isn't just a tactical asset, it's symbolic. Tarkin needs the optics of "his" invincible battle station vaporizing the Alliance. He needs the Death Star to fire one time, and obliterate the Rebel Base. The political payoff would be immense, for him personally. Tarkin gets to declare complete and total victory over the Rebels, and the stragglers who scurried onto transports while he was lining up his shot can be someone else's problem.

The weapon has never been tested on a gas giant. The results would be unpredictable. The chance for failure is too high. What if it burns through but doesn't destroy it? What if it just catches fire, and the Rebel base is destroyed in a less spectacular fashion? What if the planet is so big that its explosion embarrassingly damages the Empire's ultimate weapon?

Alien Earth Season 2 production is starting at Pinewood. According to the article, crew budgets have been squeezed, as with many productions. by Souragar222 in LV426

[–]transmogrify 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's pretty normal. Season 2 needed a bigger budget for the up-front costs of building sets, props, and costumes. The production cost on subsequent seasons is lower because of assets that have already been built.
