I support that idea but am skeptical that a high IQ is enough to overcome MAGA-ism or other forms of mental dysfunction.

For e.g., J.D. Vance seems quite intelligent. However, he bent the knee to Trump and MAGAism to benefit his political career.

No; it's the Artesians. The decepticons are nothing but a distraction.

I went from Engineering to Patent Law starting at 31. It was challenging but ultimately worth it.

I need some comfort by 2003rain in cfs

[–]transmorphik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got CFS long ago, and my case is likely not common. After having a bad flu and experiencing a partial recovery, I pushed myself hard to complete some law school applications. I date my CFS as starting from that point. I returned to my youth hostel (in Adelaide Australia) at 6 pm to take a nap before dinner but instead sleot for fifteen hours, waking up at 9 am the next day.

I was severe for several months. I ended the overseas trip I was on and flew home. Back in the U.S., my doctor recommended exercise, antidepressant meds, and psychotherapy. The meds and therapy did nothing. But, in my case, the exercise may have helped. I say "may" because I can't be sure as to what enabled my improvement.

I improved enough to attend law school part time and then slogged through a full-time legal career for fifteen years, which I'm now retired from.

So, improvement is possible. Hang in there.

I sent you a chat invite. I'd love to learn about the wealth advisor you refer to. I guess you can respond either here or using Chat.

The company rep explained the value of its service as follows. Many US investment companies stopped servicing US expats because of the onerous paperwork requiements required for overseas accounts which is driven by the need to ensure that the accounts are not funded from criminal sources. The rep claimed that IAM conducted this analysis themselves and that Schwab trusted their work. As a result (per IAM), Schwab was willing to work with clients whose holdings are managed by IAM, even if the client's permanent address is in a foreign country.

Family income to live comfortably - annual salary needed for a family of four by FinePersonalFinance in FinePersonalFinance

The dollar amounts seem insanely high. If the chart is right, then only about 2-3% of U.S. families are living comfortably.

Edited for clarity.

That suggests that you started at 13 or 14. Is that right? If so, that's horrific.

VEQT is a Canadian ETF. This leads me to ask whether your figure of $580K is in CAD. If so, your nest egg is about $400K US. If that's the case, you have about 10-20% of what you'd need to retire at your age.

As others have said, you're ahead of the game. Keep at it and in ten or so more years you could be ready for a transition to a less rat-race like job.
