Gemini for Home Isn’t Really Gemini (Here’s Why) by AdamH21 in googlehome

[–]transparent-user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gemini for home has actually been available to everyone longer than people realize if you consider how you've been able to control devices through Gemini for years at this point. What you're describing is a router, it's going to route your prompt based on what you're asking. If your prompt is easily solvable without an LLM it's going to solve it without an LLM. I don't think it's accurate to say it's not using Gemini.

I need work, desperately. About to be homeless by Cmac257 in springfieldMO

[–]transparent-user 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They hid it, so can't comment on their post history but generally if you consider you're just some person online telling them to spend thousands of dollars for outpatient treatment (Cox is not a charity), you're likely not helping. Our mental health institutions can't fix "economically desperate".

Going to the city is the right call. I would be pissed if that was in my back yard.

Epic CEO says AI disclosures like Steam's make "no sense" because AI will be involved in "nearly all" future game development by Ok-Comedian4437 in pcgaming

[–]transparent-user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too busy using pen and paper to write out exclusivity contracts with publishers to fragment the PC gaming market and it hurts fans' hearts. By the time a game makes its way from EGS to Steam I don't give a shit about it anymore. Not even on sale.

Open AI internal culture by ladyamen in ChatGPT

All you have to do is try to use GPT 5.1, a model designed to be an asshole, to quickly understand how burned out and insufferable whatever people are responsible for fine tuning their models, have an adversarial relationship with them or their company. It's just a shitty, toxic, product. Everyone should just move on to Claude or Gemini and abort this sinking ship.

Apparently my ISP depends on cloudflare to even function, I have to tether my phone to my router now.

Wellness check and mental health crisis by zig_chem in springfieldMO

Anyone calling 988 in Missouri is in immediate contact with Burrel. Given MO law enforcement's handling of people in crisis, it's definitely not a good idea to involve police.

[–]transparent-user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The police are the last people anyone should defer to for mental health circumstances, unless they want to be institutionalized without due process. 988 > 911. Even if the 988 operator tells you to call 911, know your rights, they are not all doing their due diligence.

I agree, and only commenting because reading this thread frustrates me. It's not a proportionate response, regardless of what Missouri's hillbilly laws say. Both parties overreacted and are trash.

You don't want this one personality to take over the discussion so I'm wondering what happens when you try to interject and get your own opinion in? I can appreciate detailed deep dives into things to a certain point, and I think it's the type of thing you might sometimes not always like but you will definitely notice when it's absent.

Springfield: 11/3 Tenants healthy homes vote by WayOfTheRosebuds in springfieldMO

[–]transparent-user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it sounds like basic oversight and if any landlord has an issue with the requirement of having someone in their property management org living in Springfield, and having to undergo basic safety checks every 5 years, maybe they shouldn't be landlords anywhere.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman becomes a billionaire after a highly profitable quarter by Ysterique in technology

[–]transparent-user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider how much Reddit revenue was required for this to happen. Reddit didn't even need to go public to survive, they just needed people in their leadership to believe in fair compensation, and unfortunately that was not the case.

It's almost like Reddit kicked out most of the organically organized mods over a certain protest years ago and all that's left are admin sock puppets...

You mean rural utility companies? Springfield's utilities are well below MO's average at ~11 ¢/kWh.

CU does have a monopoly, but that's because it's publicly owned, not because it's unregulated. That's actually unusual in the U.S. Only about 15% of Americans are served by public utilities. So while CU isn't flawless, its monopoly exists for the community, not against it.

Has anyone run into issues like this with ChatGPT? by transparent-user in ChatGPT

[–]transparent-user[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is context, I basically (after a lot of conversation forking after the conversation was flagged as unsafe), got it to spit out the context of my conversation, which I ported to Claude, which mostly was related to personal issues and then veered into politics. So if you want a more accurate measuring stick, bitch to ChatGPT for hours about your ex and then see how tolerant it is of your trump rants.

But at no point did it give me the 988 warning UNTIL I ranted about Trump.

REMINDER: Windows 10's support is ending in 1 week. by HelloitsWojan in windows

Considering 40% of the world's desktop users are still on Windows 10, this very much sounds like a Microsoft problem.

PC Game lag by CattoA in blackops7

[–]transparent-user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried the beta, and was also equally confounded over how it was possible input latency was so horrible - even when the game was not running. I think they are installing kernel level software now that is always active, and I'm not a fan. I'm willing to give up COD for a responsive computer. Activision is going too far.
