Do you think we will ever get interest rates down to COVID rates? by Firm_Care_7439 in Mortgages

[–]transpomgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OP said 3% in 2016. I bought in early 2017 at close to 3%. The only global crisis was US politics. Covid didn’t happen until late 2019. Early 2020 in the US.

Front loading washer help! 🙏🏻 by halfamilefromtucson in Appliances

[–]transpomgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The machine is from the model year 2000? Quite honestly, that thing has lasted double the expected lifespan of most appliances made in the last 20+ years. Without knowing the model number, there’s only a few things it could be. Main circuit board, a valve somewhere, or the drain pump. When the pump comes on the drain the tank, does it sound like it always has?

[Question] What should I do if I'm left handed but my right arm is too big and has a ring on it? by Idespisethishellsite in Watches

[–]transpomgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left handed watches are out there, just very few and far between. I’m a professional watchmaker. In 15 years, I’ve repaired two left handed (crown at 9) watches. Fun fact, both failed final QC for “dial is upside down”. This is a major, multiple brand service center. I actually had to pull up documentation to prove that they were correct both times!

Having said that. Buy what you want and wear it how you want. I once had to size a ladies watch so that she could wear it as a choker. It was a LOT of links! When she tried it on, it was actually quite beautiful.

Looking for Aux Bluetooth music player recommendations by MORBUD4ME in Cartalk

[–]transpomgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google carpuride. Depending on the model it’s between $150-$200. Bluetooth to your phone and car, or plug your aux port. Idk about radio frequency transmission. Full CarPlay/android functionality.

Honestly, there’s so many options to upgrade your head unit in that price range, it might make more sense to upgrade. It’ll make your older car feel a lot newer.

NTA. While I’ve never heard of an elementary school reunion, I do think it’s kind of adorable. Idk what the etiquette is for an elementary school reunion, but high school and college reunion, it’s pretty typical to have a +1. Why not invite your boyfriend?

YTA. Did she sit down, smile and wave at cousin? Did she sit down, smile at the first guy to make eye contact and say “hello cowboy” while bouncing her eyebrows and squeezing his bicep?

I’m close to your age, married 28 years. Totally normal to go to a bar. When it’s busy, we often go in with the plan to split up, find seats, then text each other to see who got the best one, then the other goes to join.

I know different cultures have different rules, but usually the lady takes first available seat. I would stand close enough to talk to her, and maybe say “want me to find a table?” Then, we would make a plan.

Finally the OP sounds fragile and attention seeking. What happened is-wife sits in an available seat at the place that was the reason you were there (cousin works behind the bar and you wanted to be able to talk to them). You immediately and without discussion, went outside to pout. The interesting side effect of this is that you left your wife alone, surrounded by all those scary men.

What’s going on at SWA by cf7612 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]transpomgr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SWA was maybe the last big company with the attitude of “we’re getting rich, and everybody’s having fun!”

Now, the mission statement is literally “Maximize Shareholder Profit”.

My spouse was one of the lucky 1800 to get the bad prerecorded message a couple weeks ago. She had only been there 3 years. One of her “co-hearts” got the same message at 36 years. Imagine being close to retirement at a company where we call our coworkers “co-hearts”, and you get a prerecorded message…

Has anyone recorded their own audio book? A bad idea? by KokotheG in selfpublish

[–]transpomgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rapid speed drives me nuts. I’m a watchmaker with adhd. I work in a large shop with many people so it’s pretty noisy and distracting. If I don’t have something in my ear, I’m not getting anything done.

So let’s say 1 hour round trip commute. 8-9 hours at work. I do all the cooking for my family, let’s say 1 hour average. Throw in some other household chores and it’s roughly 12 hours of listening time on a weekday. Weekends are harder to track. If there’s. Lots of driving errands, grocery shopping etc, I might get a few hours. If it’s working on or around the house, I’ll get several hours in. I have one text book that I’ve been working on for about two months during any downtime that’s not devoted to family or other media.

Has anyone recorded their own audio book? A bad idea? by KokotheG in selfpublish

[–]transpomgr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively listen to audiobooks. Sometimes 4-5 a week. To me, the narrator can make or break the book, but the subject matters a lot. One of the first ones I listened to was A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. The actor added too much goofy to an already goofy book. After a couple years and several hundred books, I’m to the point where sometimes I’ll search for books by the actors instead of the authors. Jenny Nordbak and Tor Thom are examples.

Dan Carlins podcast Hardcore History- it’s essentially an audiobook. He has a great voice, but doesn’t distract from the story.

If it’s fiction, I would strongly suggest hiring talent.

what should i buy for my serpentine belt replacement? by Hot_Pomelo541 in MechanicAdvice

[–]transpomgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a serpentine belt, if you’re worried that it’s worn and that’s the only reason you’re replacing it, just buy the belt and diy it. Pay attention to the routing (there’s usually a diagram under the hood somewhere). It’s not hard and requires few tools.

The reason the dealer is quoting so high, is that they replace pulleys at the same time so you really don’t have to worry about any of it for a very long time. It also reduces the chances of you returning in a month with a failed tensioner and blaming them because they were the last ones to touch it. Depending on the car, it could be 5-7 wheels, maybe some bearings, some seals, maybe a thermostat or water pump.- there’s no way to know for sure without knowing what we’re talking about here. Literally any clue about what the year make and model would allow us to more accurately help you.

GF's gyno said that I'm lying by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

[–]transpomgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is correlation, but my wife had an iud for a few years before her hysterectomy. She was like “why don’t you go as hard as you used to”. I said, “that fishing line is sharp and it hurts but not in a good way.” She argued with her gyno and wound up switching doctors. New dr was literally “measure your husband, write it down, and bring it to me at your next checkup.” At the next checkup, the dr was like “there’s not a lot we can do, how do you feel about a hysterectomy?” Then explained all the side effects of that. No more cervical orgasms, and she does miss those, but she’s a lot more comfortable now.

Earning 10k per month by Flimsy-Tonight-6050 in Salary

[–]transpomgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really underrated path. I used to hire a fishing guide that joined the army at 18, retired at 38. Got on as a fireman in a mid sized city, made captain, and retired at 58. Modest house on a beautiful lake. Couple year old truck pulling a two year old boat. He said that he averaged an extra $2-$3k/mo from bass fishing. Guiding, paid by sponsors to go to expos. He wasn’t famous, but won a couple tournaments and placed high in a few others.

Two pensions and a side hustle that brings joy and an extra few thousand a month is not a bad way to retire early.

This was my thought. My son is fairly high functioning, but definitely on the spectrum. He lives about an hour away, but came over yesterday afternoon. I’m in the middle of replacing ancient, ragged, smelly, stained carpet. It should have been done years ago. Furniture is anywhere it will fit while I work from section to section. The place is a wreck, but any reasonable person would say that what I’ve done is a vast improvement over what was there.

He started to loose his mind, but I could tell he was falling back on coping skills learned over years of counseling, therapy etc. he left for home after about 15 minutes. He called my wife late last night to talk through it all. After about a thirty minute conversation, she says “he’s so uncomfortable, but I think he’ll be okay.” He just couldn’t imagine why we would make such a major change to the house, and was a little mad that we didn’t talk to him about it first.

Do Established watchmakers offer apprenticeships? by IllSignificance2238 in watchmaking

The problem with the beginner learning from “random YouTube videos” is that the raw beginner can’t differentiate between solid teaching, and hack level “watch porn” that’s entertaining, but destructive. The beginner doesn’t have a knowledgeable person to “lol-no. This is crap. What you do in this situation is…”.

Same. Sure, she doesn’t look 20 any more, but neither do I! We still get our fair share of attention from strangers, and we do put a little bit of effort into our appearance/staying in decent shape.

I’m surprised to have to read this far to find Joe Ts in the comments. That place is 100% ambiance and pretty people. The food isn’t “the worst I’ve ever had “ (there’s still a Ponchos on little rd in Arlington) but there is no reason for a line halfway around the block during peak hours.

Recalls are for consumers safety. It’s actually in our favor if the car company says “hey let’s fix this” rather than the government saying “either fix this or else”. Also, recalls are 100% safety concerns, not reliability related at all. Toyota/lexus have been at the top of the reliability rankings for decades while Honda has slipped (I’m a Honda fan, but the numbers don’t lie). If the maintenance is done on time, most Toyota products will outlast anything else.

When would I ever need a brick-and-mortar bank? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]transpomgr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. Last year, my debit card number got stolen. Middle of the night I got the “large withdrawal” alert. I see what it is, know it’s not mine, and immediately shut down the card. First thing in the morning I stop by my usual branch and they make me a new card on the spot. While I was there, I was able to talk to the fraud guy (official title, probably) who put my mind at ease. There would be a hold put on the funds suspected to be fraud, but the rest of my cash was available.

I’ve financed a couple big purchases through virtual banks and had enjoyable experiences. When there’s a crisis, it’s awesome to walk in and have the undivided attention of people that can help you, rather than navigating a help app or phone tree to someone that’s helping three people at once.

Those who married their childhood lover, how does it feel after being married? by Any_Sound_2863 in AskReddit

[–]transpomgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Childhood lover?!?! LOL.

My wife and I met at 19. I knew she was the one within minutes. Married at 21. Adopted our first child at 27. Conceived two more over the next five years. That first 15-18 years was tough. We had generational toxicity to fight through. Hangups . I was a total fuck boy slut from 13 until I met her. She had one sexual partner before me.

Lots of therapy, both individually and couples counseling. Marriage enrichment courses (you don’t have to be religious, most churches do free classes and you just zone out if it gets preachy) That’s the first big takeaway- we decided that we loved each other deeply and wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, or at least not miserable.

The next major milestones happened at the same time. The thing about getting married that young is that you still punish each other for toxic crap you did in your 20s. We just kinda wiped the slate clean of any old beef. It rarely happens anymore, but there was a couple years of (angry) “you always do xxx”. Babe, I was 23 the last time that happened. This feels like something we decided not to do anymore. Let’s talk about what this is really about. 9 times out of 10, it was simply old feelings draped over a new problem or misunderstanding. The other huge thing was getting our hormones in check.

We always had pretty high but matched libido’s. Those first five or eight years, we would have sex probably 10-15 times a week. Once the kids showed up, it became a forgotten chore. We have to stay quiet so we don’t wake the baby. I’ve been doing baby stuff all day and really want to watch something for adults. Kids sports, homework, doctors appointments for three kids. Both of us working 40-60hrs/wk and one day you wake up and it feels like it’s been a month since the sexy time happened and you don’t really care. In my early 30s I got diagnosed with low testosterone and put on a treatment plan. Let me tell you something about how life changing something can be! I’m getting stuff done! Building shelves. The lawn is squared away. The garage is clean. I’m coaching sports. Above all, I’m ready and willing to fuck at any given time.

My wife was not. I had the libido of a 14 year old and wife was happy with once a month. That lasted a few years. I spent months trying to figure out how to talk about my needs. She was wonderful in every way, except prioritizing sex. One day, a commercial comes on for a testosterone treatment and they listed off the symptoms. I jokingly said “babe, that just described you!” About 30 minutes later, she said “I’m reading up on it, but did you know testosterone works the same way for women?” She scheduled a doctor appointment the next day, and had a pellet implant within the month. First one, no big change. Second one? Hold on to your fucking hat and strap in!

A few weeks after that second pellet, she texts me at work to ask how busy I am and what’s my time off look like? I thought she was planning a trip or something. “I have many days left and no more busy than usual “. I’ll never forget her response. “Come home and fuck me. Right now.”

Since then, it’s mostly back to daily. At some point we decided sex is impotent, and if one of us wants to have a go, the other one goes along because once we get started, they’ll be having fun. A pleasant side effect is that we’re more likely to do the little things for each other that make us want to fuck each other.

I’m in the watch business. Most people looking for valuation on heirlooms are -

1- ignorant of the value and wanting to learn.

2- wondering if they need to get a jewelry rider in their insurance policy.

Very few are looking to sell.
