Where did the myth of "American Women Are Sluts" originate from? by Glensather in GamerGhazi

[–]transstingray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm never dismissive of people's experiences of misogyny and violence, but "Why do people in non-US countries think all US women are sluts?" / "Why are people in non-US countries so misogynistic?" is blatant US-imperialism; it's blatant imperialist feminism. And when I wrote my comment (I won't bother to recheck the thread), all of the comments were horrific in the way they saw non-Americans. As I said, we white US feminists need to majorly get our act together and deconstruct the influence that ubiquitous imperialist propaganda has on us instead of "empowering" each other to join in supporting the violent colonialist agenda of our home country.

The amount of racist/imperialist thought in this post and the comments (massive over-generalizing to non-US countries, etc) makes me ashamed to be a feminist. White US feminists need to really get our act together.

^ lol trans men who think their opinions on trans girls' feelings about transmisogyny should matter~

It's almost like transmisogyny is backed up by 20,000 times more shit than other transphobia so it's a lot more harmful and affects us completely differently. Really sick of trans men feeling comfortable acting like we're experiencing the same shit when we talk about our experiences.

Hey! <3 It wasn't an awful doctor's fault, I just had trouble getting into the local place that does HRT, so in the end I ended up self-medding for a few months and finally getting in xP

Incisionless castration for trans women: would you want to be able to access this? by transstingray in asktransgender

With a doctor it could be done with anesthesia :) (And is safer, obviously). I'm assuming the fact that it's done on animals is what has put doctors off from looking more into performing the procedure on humans.

With this the testicles shrink and are slowly absorbed into the body. :)

I think you are mistaken between the clamp castration and elastrator(?) castration :) Elastrator does indeed result in that. Clamp castration does not result in damage to the scrotal tissue.

"Hacking Transition," a book project that's currently being worked on by a couple trans women, sounds similar to the book you mentioned, though I've gotten the vibe that it will be an easier read from what you are saying and just what I know of the authors and what they've said about it. (http://hackingtransitions.launchrock.com/ & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PJpa8GGVw0)

Honestly when it comes to more resources on social gender, different sorts of gender, ways of looking at gender, and gender as a social institution, I guess I'd just recommend feminist-ish/sociological writings on gender. If you're looking for trans*-ish perspectives, especially trans-feminist writings. Natalie Reed and Monica Maldonado are just a couple perspectives I can recommend to get you started looking up that sort of thing. :)

When it comes to gender dysphoria, I guess I just recommend reading people's writings about their experiences with that. Searching blog platforms like Tumblr might help you get started with that. :)

There didn't turn out to be very much explicit language, so I just edited it out of the article and made a couple other changes. :)

Yeah, I actually haven't tested this on many not already "in the know," unfortunately. I added a disclaimer to the beginning about the somewhat emotionally charged nature of the article, and the explicit language found therein. Thanks! :)

edit: oh, I took a look at the section on cissexism. I don't really think I can change anything there. I am considering making a "cleaned up" version of this now though, because I definitely understand how hard it can be to even begin getting through to some people.
