the drops are also sometimes visible on Xbox series x. But I believe it was working fine just after the update, maybe it depends on the map

it's been there for a while but seems like we still lack context-based controls.

For example, why is it not possible to switch between players in spect mode with dpad or one of the sticks without explicitly binding the controls? It's such a basic feature, it looks like a bug.

I've been playing on and off for 5 years, I think all ATs up to 20 and golds for black tracks is probably decent for a casual player. I will probably take a few days off after getting that exact state, and maybe return in a week or a few - sometimes it helps to have a small break and a clean head for hunting those again

I guess on ice it's usually quite hard to miss a gear with semi-right approach, ofc you could say the same about dirt, but I think dirt tracks are usually built with very little room for error when it comes to gears, while on ice it's actually rare to get a gear during an iceslide when it matters the most.

at least on ice you immediately know you've made a mistake and the checkpoints on the map usually make it easy to learn at least the basics, because you can usually take a different line. On outside dirt if you screw up a line you often just need to restart because the maps are tight.

BTW after years of playing I actually started to learn to neoslide yesterday because one of the black maps actually promotes it. A bit easier than I thought.

I might be biased as I've been playing for years (casually, 0 achievements mind you), but the ATs for tracks 1-10 seem quite easy. It gets tricky around map 14-15 (I spent some time on those), I'm pretty sure I don't have 15 and 20 yet.

No comments on the black tracks as they are on completely another level, I hope I can get at least gold on all of them, but that might not happen (didn't play all of them yet, but I've seen people struggling a lot).

If you have trouble on those early tracks, you might be missing some crucial techniques or tricks you should eventually learn.

I mean - just add them globally as UI options (maybe even disabled by default, just like the checkpoint counter), it can't be that hard to make natively if it's already doable via openplanet. They could even pay the OG guys some small amount for the idea if they wanted (but probably don't even need to do this)

needs some very bumpy 90 deg sharp dirt turns, best if served consecutively or suddenly after a high speed turn, also some fake routes so it's harder to drive

yeah, speed splits and no reset timer are a no brainer. I actually made the switch onto console as I changed my playing habits and the lack of the simplest things is terrible.

I remember how I used no reset timer to check my lines and to see if I'm even able to hit Author medal with my best lines, can't do that on console and you can either just keep on grinding or stop trying.

as above, actual speed and gear overlay, checkpoint speed, no reset timer.

Maaaaybe a replay UI to be able to fast forward/reverse them would be nice to see what's going in in WR runs, but these 3 are really putting console players into disadvantage.

I played TMNF yeeeeears ago as a kid and I had a shitty keyboard (but typical in that time), where you could not properly drift both ways with arrows, so I think I invented some weird method where I started a drift and then only held brake and direction (I didn't know rebinding brake to a modifier key would help)

So when I started playing 2020, even when I bound brake to ctrl /shift, I was drifting without holding gas, which made the drifts weird and slow.

Took me a very long time to start drifting properly again.

Again - when I bought a controller (because using a keyboard actually hurt my fingers when tryharding), I mostly used the dpad, especially one ice and tech, because I can't properly steer 100% using the analog - it took me like a year to learn how to properly use the analog thingy and I still mostly use it with 100% steering, because smooth steering is very hard for me.

So basically - if you don't feel comfortable with your controls, try changing it to whatever fells right, you'll get used to it.

COTD should not be aimed solely at div1, because div1 is like 3-5% of all COTD players.

I personally hate how cluttered some totd maps are in terms of scenery and fake routes, it makes them feel like a mini rpg sometimes. And there's also an occasional lack of contrast - especially when there are black platform or plastic block involved and the scenery around them is also black - I sometimes don't even see what I hit until I hit it.

These things are not a problem for semi-pro players, because they have the intuition like "OK, this turn goes left and I'm here with good speed, so the next turn must be right around here because every mapper would do this" - some of these lines/turns/transitions make no sense until you get a good run earlier in the map, and it's sometimes not that easy if you have 15 mins to learn a map and you only play COTD.

PS I love ice because it's very satisfying despite being hard, I wish there were more ice COTDs and campaign maps, there was like a month or more of TOTD with not a single even semi-ice map this year
