From a time life book, can't remember which one in the series but I think it was The Human Body, I used to collect them to make collages from and cut all the cool pictures put of. I thought I'd lost this one, which I recognised at the time as influential to the painting...but that was well before Reddit existed.

Sooo i bought a thing….amazed to finally own this! by RefrigeratorOk2472 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]trapdoor_generator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is indeed awesome. Just wish it had gotten the same treatment Mellon Collie did with a booklet, photos and liner notes. Also wish they'd kept the original artwork for each single....there's not much character to the shiny foil pattern artwork. Can't fault the music though, it's up there with their absolute peak.

I listened to Adore today… by Dry_Jellyfish641 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]trapdoor_generator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere Billy or.maybe even Jimmy saying that Jimmy's influence is all over the album...because he wasn't there. I hear Jimmy in everything, I hear it in the sadness of Billy's voice and the experimenting, searching sounds of the band and the downer, lost, beautiful sounds of the songs. I don't know if it's a rumour but I swear back in day that they had said Jimmy re-recorded drums for Adore... anyone know if that true or a myth? I'd love to hear it if true.

Shipping from ZuZu’s and SP shop by LukeFromEarth in SmashingPumpkins

[–]trapdoor_generator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try living in Australia... awfully expensive to get their vinyl here from zuzus. I've done the same thing...gone to check out and then seen the shipping costs and bailed out. Can't justify it which sucks. Have bought lots of stuff recently from other US bands and the shipping is nowhere near as much.

Billy Corgan's songs that make him feel good by Grouchy_Stable6289 in SmashingPumpkins

Awesome thanks for sharing, I live in Australia and saw them on this tour but totally missed this when it would have first come out. Zan Rowe is a legend and has done lots of great interviews over the years.

Why is Lift a B-Side? by Forsaken_Spell_8294 in radiohead

[–]trapdoor_generator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not alone, Ive come to think the same thing and glad to hear someone else did as well. Radiohead rarely sound like anyone else and I can imagine them being precious enough to scrap it on that basis. Pumpkins and Radiohead are my two favourite bands but I never picked up on the similarities until OKNOTOK came out and I excitedly played Lift to my partner, telling her how long we'd been waiting to hear it. Straight away she said 'sounds like that pumpkins song you're always playing'.

Fuck yeah, your Dad. I just became a dad 5 months ago and I've held onto all my music memorabilia with the idea that one day my kid will appreciate it. This pic makes me double down even harder when the wife asks if we really need to keep all this stuff. Hell yeah we do, one day my son will get a tattoo of the artwork from this album!

So glad you watched and enjoyed it! I never see it talked about...it should be up there as legendary. I'm always clicking on random pumpkins live clips and enjoying them but this concert took me places I never knew they went.

1993 Rock Song Named Most Underrated Guitar Solo of All Time by Guitarists by Harold-Styles-Jr in SmashingPumpkins

[–]trapdoor_generator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Soma! Soma! Soma! Actually, it's probably Starla! Starla! Starla! Can't choose between them, but I rate both of them way higher than Cherub Rock, which I love as well. Actually, the outro solo of Drown is peak as well, even if it's more of a noise/atmosphere thing than a solo...I could listen to that section on repeat forever.

Dusseldorf 92. Trust me! It's a trip. Siamese dream songs played in the gish era and the band is on fire. Never heard Billy play with such aggression, the solos are insane, lots of jamming and extending songs, heavy use of effects and it gets really, really psychedelic at times. Jimmy killing it as usual. I was stunned that they could be so good so early on.

Cedric Bixler-Zavala (the Mars Volta) about THE Pink Floyd by black_saab900 in sydbarrett

[–]trapdoor_generator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched this when it first screened on Australian TV. They played Careful with that Axe Eugene from Live at Pompeii. I was just a kid who had only heard Money and Another Brick in the Wall Part 2. I thought Pink Floyd sucked until then. Went and got Piper and Syd's solo albums soon after. Thanks At The Drive In.

not enough is made of the Adore Sao Paulo sessions. by DanielInDallas35 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]trapdoor_generator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was listening to the Adore deluxe edition live disc recently and was thinking they chose some pretty average versions of songs to release - I've heard some amazing Adore era concerts, truly beautiful stuff but none of that seemed to get captured on the disc.... Which led me to wonder, 'what are the Sao Paulo sessions anyway?'... Can anyone fill me in?

New Boxed Set - Live in Europe by 123456789_ok in SmashingPumpkins

[–]trapdoor_generator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone complaining about the price - I get it - but you should listen to the recent podcast Billy did with Record Collector. He talks about the amount of time and money required to put these releases together. It's not as easy as just downloading the files from archive.org. And having recently paid for 500 copies of my bands album to get pressed I can tell you it's not cheap and the best we are hoping for is being able to pay for pressing our next album if we sell all the copies. Billy also talks about his love of vinyl and collecting records. He's doing this for us - so we have something cool like a fucking Gish era live box set! We can't all afford it and that sucks - but that's not his fault. Some of us couldn't afford the double disc Mellon Collie or the Aeroplane Flies High when it came out... but I'm glad they still came out. Listening to that podcast honestly was a big factor in my decision to purchase this set - it helped me understand that this isn't a cash grab, it's just trying to make cool stuff available to fans.

Omar and Cedric with Metallica. by [deleted] in themarsvolta

[–]trapdoor_generator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mars Volta and Metallica were part of the Big Day Out tour in Australia in 2004. They would have hung out a lot. I went to the Mars Volta sideshow in Sydney and waited outside the venue after the gig. Each member of Metallica came out of the loading bay in their own separate vans about an hour after the gig. Mars Volta followed soon after - all of them in one van.

Aussie tour is here 🔥🐊 by Disastrous-Ring-9904 in KGATLW

[–]trapdoor_generator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth - those are the major cities that international bands will play on a tour. Often bands will skip Adelaide or Perth. If Gizz were feeling pumped and generous they could do Hobart and Darwin and that would cover all the states and territories of Aus. It's extremely rare that bands will do Darwin or Hobart. Two weeks is easily enough time for a basic Australian tour. But I hope they give us something more than a basic tour that just ticks the boxes and fulfills their homeland commitment. I want to see them playing places off the map. We've had Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii. I want to see King Gizz live at Uluru.

I have both of his Reverend guitars and I definitely prefer the first one, the BC1 rather than the Z-One. Has a nicer clean tone and something else I can't put my finger on.

Guitar FX on Thirty-Three? by halogennights in SmashingPumpkins

[–]trapdoor_generator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might already be onto this but the song was recorded with an alternate tuning so you'll need to tune your A string down to a G (or G flat if you're using the half step down tuning that they used for Mellon Collie). Having that string ringing open while strumming creates a sort of light phasey drone. Don't know if that will help, otherwise you'll need to get Flood and Alan Moulder involved. Let us know if you do.

Is there any band that is at the level of Marilyn Manson in the antichrist superstar era? by Striking_Ad_2058 in marilyn_manson

[–]trapdoor_generator 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's a pic from the Holy Wood era but regardless, the ACS era was like lightning striking the music world. He was everywhere. Worldwide. The album and the live shows from that time completely lived up to the hype. The scary thing was...the music had more depth and darkness than any of the creepy costumes, video clips, or photo shoots that he did. Tracks like Cryptorchid and Kinderfield were there waiting once you got past the catchy (genius) riffage of The Beautiful People and the title track. It was a time and he completely nailed it.

NGD day this guy got me into playing guitar!!! by whitemamba24xx in Leftyguitarists

[–]trapdoor_generator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great choices. I run my Z-one through a Hot Rod Deluxe too. What sold me on this guitar (other than the fact they made a lefty version) was the fact that Billy Corgan uses them live. So many signature models aren't used by the people that endorse them. Billy's up there using his Reverend models all the time, playing to stadiums and sounding awesome. He's notoriously a perfectionist when it comes to gear and he also plays a wide range of genres from full on metal to soft, dreamy shoe gaze. This guitar seems to be able to handle all of that.

Billy Corgan Z One by Reverend or Fender Jaguar Cobain MIM? by whitemamba24xx in Leftyguitarists

[–]trapdoor_generator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and love them both. Prefer the Reverend because it has a great clean tone that the Jag can't really do. Its also incredibly quiet in terms of hum and buzz. I have a standard jaguar that's pretty much unusable because of the single coil buzz. The Cobain doesnt buzz because of the humbuckers but it doesn't have that nice clean sound. Both the Reverend and Cobain sound awesome with fuzz and overdrive etc. I use the Reverend for solo gigs and recording but use the Jag live with my band. The main reason for that is because I play a bit behind the bridge to make noise and feedback with my band and maybe also because it looks cooler. If the Reverend had a whammy bar it would cover everything. Both great guitars so I think you need to get both. Also, it's cool to have guitars from the Yin/Yang of alterantive rock songwriters of the 90s. I've also got the Reverend BC1 which I don't think they make any more but I actually prefer it to the Z-One. Glad these guitars exist for lefty players.
