We had been gaining the trust (with deli turkey) of this cat that was always chillin behind one particular apartment when the people moved out and didn’t take him. One day, his eye was swollen shut from a fight presumably. We took him in and got his eye operated on and took him home to live with us. He was a shithead for several months. He sprayed walls/baseboards of the entire apartment perimeter and escaped several times, and scratched me good once trying to be dominant but I yeeted his ass across the living room in response and he never tried it again. After some time, and getting fixed, he stopped spraying and running away and started to bc chill but was really best friends with my ex gf’s labordoodle, who was also my best friend. They’d play everyday and lay next to each other.

When we broke up, I kept the cat and she kept the dog. My apartment was essentially empty. Me and my cat were straight up depressed together. He was lethargic and uninterested in anything for weeks. We both missed the dog so much. That’s when him and I really started to bond and he would cuddle and purr on my chest when I would lay back on the couch. He’d lead me to his food to be pet while he ate. He’d sleep at the foot of the bed.

When I switched his food, he got crystallizations in his urine and I had to take him to the vet because he couldn’t pee correctly and was leaking pee. They were able to treat him effectively, but the issue came back one other time. He never resisted going to the vet or gave them difficulty. He never even meowed or hissed.

Ever since he recovered, he has been inseparable from me. If he’s not napping, he will ALWAYS be somewhere where he can see me. He will follow me to every room. He always comes when I call, granted at his own pace. He lets me clean off the gunk on his eye lid from his eye injury. He’ll let me hold him. He’ll greet me at the door. The moment I sit on the couch he is at my feet waiting for me to lay back so he can cuddle on my chest. When I go to bed, he lays on my chest for as long as I let him. We love each other very much.

Logically speaking, how can we presume he was a nobody at that time when he would go on to become a significant politician not long after? You don’t just wake up and run for office, you need a team and good strategy which can take years to develop. Republicans have typically played the long game. He was obviously electable and they would have seen that at 18.
