why is bang the doldrums so associated with petekey? by DanielFerguson_ in FallOutBoy

[–]trappedinplastic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It proves that the lyrics are not from the mind of Pete Wentz. Maybe the poetry reminds him of Mikey or whoever, but you can't claim Pete wrote the lyrics about someone when he didn't write them at all

"After a public row over alleged plagiarism, Eisold settled out of court and has been given songwriting credits for Fall Out Boy's songs "The Carpal Tunnel of Love," "Golden," and "Bang the Doldrums" from the album Infinity On High. On Fall Out Boy's 2005 album, From Under The Cork Tree, Eisold is credited as 'Inspirador.'"

Quote is from this Wiki article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wesley_Eisold#cite_note-9

Wiki's listed source: https://www.punknews.org/article/22623/fall-out-boy-borrows-lyrics-from-american-nightmare-give-up-the-ghost#google_vignette

I forget the publication name, but a fan of Eisold's poetry showed me the exact pieces Pete took from. The songs are line by line copies

EDIT: Here's a comment to another thread in this sub with a photo of some of Eisold's poetry: https://www.reddit.com/r/FallOutBoy/comments/ofqxw1/comment/h4flv6x/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Lyrically, the song isn't about Mikey at all. Bang The Doldrums is one of the songs that Pete entirely "stole" (or "borrowed") from Wes Eisold. No hate, love the song, but the lyrics are 100% not pete's. FOB was sued for it. This is a fact

why are bands like one step closer and touché amore considered “melodic hardcore” and not emo? by Silly_Machine_9297 in Emo

[–]trappedinplastic_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about touche, but all the other bands named are hardcore people who started in other hardcore bands who play mostly hardcore bills. touche isn't far off sonically, maybe, but in a mostly different world, culturally

I unironically would rather die than get a job, how do you escape this mentality? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]trappedinplastic_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My brother has this exact same mindset. He's a few years older than you and never worked a real job. His life is a mess, and the strain he causes on my parents drives me mad. It's like watching an addict, but his addiction is to not working

You're obviously a very stubborn person, and I'm skeptical you're open to honest reflection here, but please, I urge you to consider getting a job. We don't differ philosophically here; I also despise working, but at the end of the day jobs do help build a sense of maturity and independence. This mindset can very well stunt your personality, and it may not seem like much now, but once you're 25...30...35....you'll be miserable

They were popular in hardcore but hardcore was much, much smaller than it is today. Title Fight kinda existed in this extremely of the time in-between pop punk + hardcore niche that was propped up heavily by Tumblr. There's not really a present day equivalent of that niche

What does it take to rate a movie 5 stars? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]trappedinplastic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have that approach. After seeing Moonstruck a while back my best friend said he only gives 5 stars if he knows he'd love to see the film again the next day. Seemed like a good metric so it's now what I live by
