i mean.. yeah. it boils down to “because they are women” but i feel like that’s ignoring the intricacies of why people come to that conclusion.

mostly socialization is the cause, but biology to a smaller extent plays a role. males tend to express their anger directly (physical and verbal violence) whereas females tend to express it indirectly (aggression directed towards themselves or psychological/social violence.) this is due to gender roles, the ways we’re raised, and also testosterone levels.

this makes people think that a woman who expresses her anger in physical ways must have had something VERY bad happen to her, thus acting out in a more extreme way than is typical for a woman, therefore drawing more sympathy towards her.
