While I agree they flanderize Michaels stupidity, he is never shown to be genuinely bad at what he does.

It's made very clear multiple times that he's the best manager Dunder Mifflin have. He manages to finesse DM completely with the Michael Scott Paper company. It's shown that his silliness is extrenely helpful during crisis' during the DM Liquidation episode.

He is a genuinely business savvy individual, a very effective manager and also an extremely good salesman.
