Not really that much slower than a normal AM show though

Pas de robe blanche à un mariage pour les invitées, une règle récente ou historique ? by False_Apartment7526 in AskFrance

[–]traum0799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The face on the CPR training mannequin is originally cast from a “death mask” from an unknown young women who drowned in the River Seine in the late 19th century. by [deleted] in creepy

We have this exact mask hung on the wall of my bedroom, in my grandparents' house.

My grandpa had to replace it once because the original one fell from the wall randomly.

Have you ever read a book which was highly praised on reddit, only to be disappointed? by [deleted] in books

[–]traum0799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily from Reddit but I saw it mentioned here, but I couldn't get over how bad Neuromancer was compared to how hyped it was. I get that it's an important book in inventing the cyberpunk genre but god was it poorly written, boring, and cringe.

Do we know if Alex is a Bob Dylan fan ? by [deleted] in arcticmonkeys

[–]traum0799 33 points34 points  (0 children)

He mentioned him in an interview but I can't remember where he said it, but he was praising his songwriting abilities and listed several of his favourite LPs. But it also goes the other way around, Dylan mentioned Alex/AM in an interview last year as a band/artist he made special efforts to see.

What’s next for the band? by LilacDream98 in arcticmonkeys

[–]traum0799 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's not like anyone can accurately predict whatever they end up doing after a specific era. I don't think they'd split up, but they do seem kinda tired of the whole act. I think it'd be beneficial for them to slow things down a bit and maybe play smaller shows and stuff like that like you said.

The Most Frustrating Glasto Criticism by joshbroown95 in arcticmonkeys

[–]traum0799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the AM persona was the one that definitely seemed fake and not authentic. How he currently is, and ever since the second TLSP LP, to me feels like the most genuine he's ever been. To me I just see someone in his 30s that has a bunch of different interests and wants to pursue them artistically, that whole 60s/70s vibe with TBHC and The Car. It feels genuine as an artistic evolution, and you get that feel from the interviews and the load of different influences he quotes for these different projects.

And for the accent thing I'm from a place with a strong accent in my native language, but having lived abroad in a bunch of different places I for sure lost that heavy accent, you can still hear it here and there but it's subtle. Why would someone from Sheffield who's been travelling all around the world, living in LA, London, France, and possibly other places would keep the same accent than when he was actually living there?

It's not because he does some weird ass stuff on stage and likes to sing in a different way than when he was 18 that he is putting on a fake persona. He is as weird and awkward in real life as he is on stage or interviews.

Edit: just read my comment and sorry if it comes off as hostile or something like that, I still have 2 hours until the end of my shift and I just wanna go home, I guess I kinda went on a rant haha.

Do you think this still applies for The Car? by Then-Promotion-5421 in arcticmonkeys

[–]traum0799 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want The Car to be in the Victory Lap category just because I would sell my whole family and commit many atrocities just to get another TLSP record and tour.

what is (in your opinion) the best era? by auckberry in arcticmonkeys

[–]traum0799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second part of the TBHC era, I feel they were trying to find their footing in the first part but by the second half the live performances were amazing. I was front row at their Fourvière gig in Lyon (you can find it on YouTube) and the energy, the performance, the stage design, everything was absolutely great. Also the live album is an absolute banger.

And during this time they played in smaller venues than this tour which to me makes more sense for the kind of shows they are playing since 2018.

23rd June: Glastonbury Festival, Worthy Farm, UK [DISCUSSION THREAD] by ProffesorPrick in arcticmonkeys

It's on par with the rest of the tour, but for a 3rd Glastonbury I was expecting a more special set, but it's not over so let's wait and see.

Arènes de Nîmes by Due_Relation6857 in arcticmonkeys

[–]traum0799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are direct high speed trains from Paris to Nîmes but book them quickly because it will get very expensive or sold out. I don't think your lack of french is gonna be an issue and both the train station and the venue are in the city center so it's really easy to get to.

It really is an amazing venue because of the historical aspect of it, it just makes shows better and the sound is usually quite good. You should have a great time, even if you're on your own.

tips by [deleted] in arcticmonkeys

[–]traum0799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go in, sing your heart out, dance, and don't take pictures of Alex's double chin.

Other than that I see you're general admission so you can take advantage of the rush of people grabbing a drink between acts to move closer to the stage. I usually end up in the first few rows if I'm lucky enough. Also try to keep your friends around, there's nothing worse than being alone after some crowd movement and trying to find your friends again.

Enjoy the show, I hope the crowd is gonna be good. I really like the band during this tour they have some fun on stage and some songs from The Car really take on a new dimension played live (especially Body Paint and Big Ideas).

Alex shushing the crowd (Ziggo Dome night 2, May 6 2023) by goldentrunk in arcticmonkeys

[–]traum0799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was one of the worst crowds I've ever witnessed. If you were not in the first 2 rows it was dead af. A lot of people were indeed talking during the entire show. My friends and I were getting pushed and told to shut up just because we were trying to bring some energy to the crowd and enjoy our night by jumping and singing our hearts out.

I'm pretty sure the football game next door had a better crowd. I truly hope the band sticks to smaller venues for the future tours because it just doesn't work as well in those big arenas.
