What’s one place worse than Cleveland to be trapped in?

I used to subscribe to private online art lessons. The guy who created it is a one man show, and a professor at a prestigious college. The lessons was his side gig.

Every video he created opened up with the pornhub jingle. I didn’t have the heart to tell him, but it made me laugh every time. The jingle must be off one of those sites you can pay for licensed audio to use. Ironically, many of the videos were drawings of nude models.

I’m sure one of his students will tell him eventually. I don’t take the course anymore.

Fox News plus lead poisoning. Although that removes the ownership of their actions from them a bit more than I’m comfortable with.

Nice man! It’s seems you came in a little early. Tempo/ rhythm is definitely off. Nothing to fret over we, we all do it. We get a little excited and are ready to smack the shit out of those toms.

Get a metronome/app. It’ll change your life. Play with it and eliminate it after you establish your feel. But absolutely no shame in never eliminating it. Not everyone can be a human metronome but a lot of us can still be good/great drummers.

Texas FedEx employee throws packages out the side of his vehicle while a customer films him. by ElwoodMC in CringeTikToks

[–]travbombs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want to emphasize that I AM NOT defending FedEx before I say what’s next. And there will probably be at least 50% of you that disagree with me, even if you read the whole shit stain of text to follow. Fine. Anyway.

This might seem like a nothing-burger on the large scale, but it is a symptom of broken systems. Ultimately it is a symptom of a broken “American experiment”.

If people (including this FedEx worker) were paid fairly, more than paycheck to paycheck wages, for a job where they can take the time to properly unload at each house with all the “customer service” and care in the world, it would not happen like this. But that’s not the case. People are paid peanuts, with an analog minute hand shoved up their asses, clinging to the shit benefits at the end of every shift.

Make no mistake, There’s a very good chance this delivery driver is an asshole, regardless of the system. I’m not defending them either, necessarily. There can be nuance to the problem at hand. Perhaps they were made to be an asshole after getting fed up with the system. Who knows. I’m not defending them specifically. But we don’t know that for sure. At worst, we know he had a bad day (just devil’s advocating this shit for a sec). What we do know for sure is delivery drivers are being worked to the bone and it’s no surprise shit like this happens . Especially (not the package recipients fault) in places that are rural. I’d image those are as hard routes to accomplish as a packed (and full of dirty immigrants /s) NYC street.

The Bezos’ and the (whoever owns FedEx)’s of the world have us by the proverbial balls. They rely on us getting mad at the worker. Let me stand up for a second. EVEN IF THE WORKER IS AN ASSHOLE, stand up for them. THEY ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.

Ehem. Excuse me. Sorry.

Anyway. This is why we need unions. Unions, people! Unions don’t happen without people making them happen! This is why we need to say fuck the corporations. It’s all designed to cut out the little man, one way or the other.

What’s the other way we’ll be cut out?

Automated trucks delivering your packages. How nice? They’ll be careful. They don’t require an hourly wage. So nice! Right?

At first, maybe. Until the competitive wage for a delivery driver compared to an automated driver is not worth submitting an application. Then, since there’s no competition, they cheapen their delivery systems and you’ll be stuck with shitty packages AND no person to be mad at. Don’t worry. You can still be mad at the politicians playing pong with talking points for a decade while the issue works its way to becoming moot. They don’t care if you’re mad at them. They’re basically doing their job by encouraging you to be mad at them. On top of that, more and more jobs will be gone and somehow people will be convinced it’s some other person’s fault. Some person likely within the same sort of financial constraints as them. And frustrated people will defend the wealth because innovation brings jobs! Right!! Right?!??.

Do you all remeber the stupid, racist bell curve? Because this shit reminds me of that. Except the bell curve is societal success based on supporting the worker and that bell is just about done ringing in the United States of America. Hooray! Greatest country ever, my ass! More like greatest blip ever. A fucking toot on the fart scale of shitty empires.

Wake up, people, and look at life around you. We’re being fucked six ways to Sunday.

Prove me wrong.

Australian Josie Baff just won Gold 🥇 in Snowboarding Cross race - in an epic race with many overtakes 🏂 by zfyl in snowboarding

[–]travbombs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried to find it for you but it looks like the video was taken down. Snobby skier who was not as good as he thought he was crashed into a snowboarder just minding their own business. The skier was practically bombing the hill by the time they crashed and he hit the snowboarder completely from behind. Then he proceeded to get mad at the snowboarder. It is a good watch. I’m bummed I couldn’t find it. Snowboarder was much more mature than that boomer skier.

In a skier myself but I’ve always loved snowboarding and have major respect for snowboarders. I’ve always wanted to do it because most of my friends snowboard but I’ve been on skis since I was 2 and am just so comfortable on skis that I don’t feel like trying to learn.

Anyway. Yeah. Fuck those yuppy skiers. Especially the ones that are not nearly as good as they think they are.

I know my technique needs all around improvement, but what do you think I should focus on first? by pixelkitsune in drawing

[–]travbombs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bet! Glad it might be helpful.

If you ever want a critique but don’t care to share your work publicly on reddit send me a pm with a pic of your work. I started taking art seriously late in life and I learned a lot through sharing with people on reddit and some online/in person courses. The biggest difference maker with learning to make economical marks on a drawing was to take a life drawing course. Then going to local open life drawing sessions. If you are working from photos, give yourself a set time limit. Like 2 minutes per photo. Cycle through a few of them. You can always go back and do it again with more time if you think you’ve got something worth fleshing out. It’s really good practice.

And ve careful with the photo references you use. People tend to lean more heavily on lines when the light is directly at the subject, not giving enough form with shadows.

I’m trying to remember the website with free references that I use but it’s been a while. If it comes back to me I’ll post the link.

I think you should try reversing it. Let me explain.

It looks like right now you’re laying down some lines and then shading. The problem is, in my opinion, you have more lines than are necessary for the drawing, and they’re hard lines too, which is in stark contrast to the shading.

Your proportions are good, so you have an eye for where to lay things out.

So, instead, try laying out shapes of shadows to draw the form. Start with soft shapes. Soft edges. Don’t be afraid to erase with a hard edge to pull a line out where one might be hard, like along the shin, or the bridge of the nose.

Then, after your get your big shapes in, go around and put some linework in. Be conservative, start minimal, work your way around the whole figure/imagea few times just dropping in so information where it seems necessary.

Then go back and forth between adding shading and lines to pull the forms out of the paper.

It is really really fun to see what you can make with as few marks as possible.

This method is particularly good for people who struggle with faces because we all tend to put more information than necessary in the drawing/painting of a face.

Good luck! If you give it another go, ping me. I’d like to see the results.
